TTOS Season 1A Definitive Edition: Deluxe
One year ago today, we released "Percy's First Christmas" Now, a whole year later, and we've properly finalized Season 1A.
Premiering December 21st, 2024, 3pm EST
Hi, I just want to say I've started watching Tedious Tales of Sodor on YouTube pretty recently (a couple of months at best) and I've really been enjoying it (I'm a fellow Thomas writer myself and it's one of the most hilarious and well written things I've seen)
Keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing more!
Heya! Thank you so much for the kind words! Glad you're looking forward to seeing more! :D
I've been thinking a lot about your views on nostalgia, about our tendency to look to the past for a vision of the future and how it can blind us. despite this, an artist's life is inherently derivative, everything needs a pre-existing context to build itself on. oftentimes the most novel things we see are pieces that take something familiar or nostalgic and put a new spin on them- is that, too, regressive? I believe nostalgia is an important feeling to invoke in people, it helps them listen in ways they might not otherwise. but I often wonder if it is overutilised, that I've built too much of my artistic identity on ghosts. I'm wondering if you have any particular rule of thumb for what is adequately pastiche in your own work? I'm always fascinated by how your music discusses the past, especially in Carousel.
nostalgia is definitely a weakness, and my achilles heel for sure. i am extremely critical of it being overused, but tend to find a lot of comfort in it. finding a balance is hard, but i think it can go many ways. nostalgia can earnestly be harnessed to create real and good things, and it can be a basis for moving forward. i think if you're aware with your intentions and what your goals are with considering the past, then it can be perfectly fine. i think the main issue is depending on it too much and holding yourself, and art by extension, back. the work of the future will always be built on the past, but it shouldn't be defined by the past or be novel only because of its connection to the past. personally, i think we should always look forward. and when i find it difficult to move forward, i acknowledge that i'm still kind of meandering around behind a bit. i'll get there soon enough, whether i'm ready or not.
If TTOS ends before Donald and Douglas come into the fray, what can you say about Cranky being stationed at Tidmouth Harbour? Is he introduced early, or do events happen even after the series' end?
I think that you might be referring to a really old discussion about Cranky being placed at Tidmouth- which happened when 3 seasons were planned for TTOS.
Cranky would've appeared very early in Season 3? But, as it stands, Cranky will not appear in TTOS. A spot is set aside for him on the quay, but he likely won't appear in the canon run
So if Thomas is around his 20’s and Percy is less than a year old, do we have any other canon(ish) ages for the TTOS characters?
There's not really a lot of established ages based on actual years? But, after a VERY heated discussion with the development team, based on the vague age they act? I'd say, youngest to oldest;
Percy Thomas Duck Toby James Henry Edward Gordon
This has been on my mind for 2 months now
In Tramway Troubles, when James makes a cannoli reference, and Thomas goes “hey isn’t that—?” and then the narrator goes “don’t”
Was that a reference to the cannoli bit in Distractible?
Yes it is! Only like two people have caught that so far, which surprises me lmao
I know that Marklin and 106 were romantically involved at some point in the story, but are there any other couples canon to TTOS? Or will be canon? Besides Toby and Henrietta of course.
Presently, no. There are characters who have chemistry, but no one other than Toby/Henrietta, and, before 106's death, Marklin/106
In terms of "will be canon," not sure. Depends how things pan out in writing :P
I don’t usually do edits so you’re going to have to trust me on this😅
OH MY GOD OHH MY GOD I AM GONNA CRY I LOVE DRAG PATH
Do you think you’ll do any more episodes in the style of popular podcasts? I’d love well done crossovers and would be curious what podcasts you’d crossover with
Unfortunately, I don't really listen to many podcasts. The two that I have done- Welcome to Night Vale and The Magnus Archives- are the only two I listen to... other than Distractible, but I don't think that'd works as well 😅
But I don't think that means they're out of the question! I wouldn't be against making possible "follow-ups" to Radio or Statement in the same style. I think there's plenty more avenues we could explore in that style, as well as just do better than I did the first time. I still rewatch Radio and cringe at how hard I'm trying to make my voice sound deep... Eugh, heh...
Other than that, audio stories in general are something I'd like to explore! We have a lot of things that we can't really show visually yet? I think it'd be really interesting to see how far into the realm of "spoiler" territory we could get without actually spoiling anything...
What would you say the main theme of TTOS would be? Is it finding your family and healing from your past or something else entirely?
Honestly I think it's more fair to say each character represents a different theme/idea. Whether some of those are cautionary tales, or genuinely just concepts that I want to explore, it's all based on what each individual character experiences and how those experiences interweave with one another
Is there a reason you decided to call it season 1A and 1B instead of 1 and 2?
It's mostly a production thing! When S1a finished, we hadn't even started S1b in terms of writing other than Episode 8 and a few outlines of everything else
There's also the fact that it's an indicator of differences in story. S1a covers a lot of the "strike" arc, if that makes sense. Why it happened, how it played out, and how it was resolved.
Meanwhile, Season 1b covers a lot of the longer standing arcs that have been existing since Season 1a.
They're also both just vastly different eras, in terms of writing, editing, and visual style. Dividing the season into "1a" and "1b" makes it easier to identify those segments
Have you read Thomas Abridged?
Yes, actually! It is a massive inspiration for Tedious Tales of Sodor- specifically when it came to including Marklin in the series.
I actually adapted the first story as a test pilot when I was still filming with Wooden Railway stuff. It should still be up on my channel, just age restricted.
I do hope ToonGuy is still kicking around somewhere, but considering they haven't updated their profile in nearly a decade, I'm starting to think the chances are low :(
So if TTOS is ending before the scots, we’re not getting foul mouthed diesels?
Correct. Dieselization has been take on far too many times in fan projects, that any take I could ever make on it would literally just be us making fun of the fandom itself.
Love the Aroace rep in TTOS with Percy 💚 Are there any other major and or minor characters that fall in either spectrum?
Amazing production by all those involved x
Glad you're loving the aroace rep :)
As for the question- assuming that it's specifically about character being aro/ace? I think we've touched on Marklin being aro/ace following the death of 106. That and also Duck has been considered aro/ace, but has yet to really realize that about himself.
How are you going to handle the CGI characters in TTOS?
So, the thing is, TTOS will wrap up before we even introduce the Scottish twins. By Episode 10, our full recurring locomotive cast has been introduced- which is engines 1 - 8, Marklin, Winter, Farryn, and Willett.
Therefore, "CGI characters" won't be handled. We just won't be adapting them into the series.
Hello Biscut Crew Productions, I want to ask you something: Is Rae Transgender? The Reason why I ask that cause is near imposible to see female troublesome trucks in the whole of Thomas franchise.
Rae is written as a woman- I've never really seen her as transgender.
Mind you, I do think this question comes across as a little insensitive? The trucks in TTTE have never even been acknowledged as much other than they/them pronouns, always referring to them as a collective- barring the few trucks that are named.
And even then, just because it hasn't been directly implied that a truck is female doesn't mean that it's "impossible" for Rae to be AFAB. It's just that no one's ever given it thought that a truck could be a woman :/
Is shipping TTOS characters like Thomas/Percy going against your boundaries?
Do you have any boundaries regarding shipping and fanfiction of TTOS?
Thomas/Percy are written very specifically with a sibling dynamic, older brother/younger sibling specifically. Percy is also explicitly written as a minor, literally being less than a year old come Episode 8. Thomas is written to be maybe in his 20's? So you're literally shipping a baby with an adult if you do that.
It should also be noted that October, the VA for Percy, was a minor for almost the entire production of the S1a compilation, and Autumn was at the very least 18... So that's also weird.
In all of this, too, Percy is canonically aro/ace, and Thomas is gay. No matter how you cut it, it's a pairing that cannot happen in TTOS.
Other ships that irk us on the team are Thomas/Edward and Thomas/James, mostly since those two are both parental figures for Thomas.
*If you want personal ships/preferences for TTOS, I'm partial to Edward/James, Edward/Henry, and, obviously, Marklin/106. There's room for some cool things with these!!
As for boundaries- Honestly, it's just what I've said above. And even then, I can't exactly hold you at gunpoint and say "DON'T WRITE THIS" because... That's the nature of the internet.
I might not approve of it, but I'm not going to castrate you publicly. I'm just going to ask you to tag your work appropriately so those who are uncomfortable with said works don't stumble across something they don't want to see.
AO3 is so wonderful because it is so diverse... But it is also loaded with dead doves. Least you can do is warn people.
Above all else? Feel free to ask us questions, either here or on the Discord. Hell, feel free to drop a comment in the comments section on the most recent episode. I usually try to read all the comments, and am always glad to clear things up!
