Okay, okay, freaking about the new trailer aside…

I know everyone is going “WTF” about the new rules Tumblr is putting into effect this month. And apparently there’s been some talk about moving (back) to LiveJournal.

And I’m going to tell y’all right now – LiveJournal is actively worse than Tumblr. My MCU RP game was based on LiveJournal from 2003-2015. We decided to move 12 years worth of content from LiveJournal to Dreamwidth. Why? Because LiveJournal rewrote their TOS to ban any talk/content about the LGBTQIA community.

Let me repeat that: they banned being gay/queer/trans on LiveJournal. You have to agree to their TOS just to sign up for the website. Y’all are worried about your content being policed here? Russia is running LiveJournal. When you sign up there, you’re bound by Russian law. I don’t know about you, but I think I’ll take my chances on Tumblr rather than move to Russia, thx.

LiveJournal is also full of bugs and security holes big enough to drive a truck through, and not fandom friendly anymore, largely because of the new TOS, but it had been going down hill for years before that.

“Let’s go back to LJ” is not a good answer to this problem. It’s just not, guys. Take it from someone who spent three years roleplaying there before the entire game decided to move rather than follow Russian laws and risk all our content being purged. Almost all of us deleted our personal accounts there because we didn’t want anything to do with it – and we had to agree to the TOS before we could delete, which just made us all feel a little sick.

Don’t support LiveJournal. I can’t say that enough. Do not support LiveJournal. It is not the solution to the problem, and it will make your lives a lot worse.

(Feel free to reblog and signal boost this because people thinking LiveJournal is a better alternative to Tumblr legitimately scares me)
