Why Obama is powerless to reform gun laws -

More of the paternalistic attitude that ignores racism and assumes that blacks want to be victims.
Great article!
A walk in the park may soothe the mind and, in the process, change the workings of our brains in ways that improve our mental health.
An old article. But still pretty awesome that Krugman is into science fiction. He also gives a lot of good blog recommendations.
As HBO's Game of Thrones airs its fifth season finale Sunday, NPR TV Critic Eric Deggans asks if some critics of the show's violence and sexuality should reconsider past criticisms.

Controversial artist Richard Prince screenshotted and sold public Instagram photos without permission. Here's how he isn't violating copyright laws.
This definitely shows a distinct disconnect between what users of a service think they are signing up to and what they are actually getting. I can imagine that most of the people whose screenshots have sold for around $90k did not realize that their photos could be used in this manner. But, I suppose it’s to be expected and that when you put something up on the internet you can almost count on it being called into the void (ie. the massive database that is the internet’s collective consciousness).
With regard to the values of the screenshots, I suspect that the buyers are aware that they could make the prints themselves but it is the statement and the art of them having being displayed that makes them unique $90k pieces.
How Finland’s capital uses an underground lake for air conditioning.
Super interesting article on how Helsinki does its airconditioning. Would be great if this was more widely implemented. Unfortunately it would require a huge commitment by governments and I doubt that would happen in most places in the US.
Interesting coalition going on here.. I wonder if this is a power play by Spotify to fight the encroaching beast that is Apple with Beats Music.
Beautiful photos showing the contrast between the natural environment and the ones humans have forged in California.
It’s quite amazing what the human body can do in different environments.
There’s also a very interesting info graphic by smarter every day that shows why underwater vision is blurry in the first place.
