aroace culture is listening to music that very much is intended to be romantic and/or sexual and just. ignoring that and making it platonic because why not? (currently doing that with shakira's "whenever, wherever")

“Because the truth is, tech doesn’t have an image problem. It doesn’t have a message problem. It has an intention problem. What’s wrong with the axe murderer who broke into my house is not that he hasn’t successfully persuaded me to buy into his narrative. What’s wrong is that he’s trying to kill me with an axe. Similarly, when you launch a product that’s designed to put millions of people out of work, block access to sources of verifiable truth, replace human creativity with slop, and lower the barriers to every sort of atrocity, the problem isn’t that you haven’t told the public a good story about those things. The problem is that you are trying to do them.”

Getting onto uquiz when you’re bored and getting an answer that sends you into a crisis isn’t talked about enough
alright I've got to do some quick math to explain attitudes towards AI to my boss.
we're looking to create an AI policy, and when we were talking about this, my boss (older millennial) was genuinely shocked to hear that younger people do not (seem) to view AI positively (a la the recent commencement speakers being booed)
please rb for larger sample size!
Question 1/3
What is your age, and do you feel AI is a net positive or net negative in our lives today?
under 18, AI is a net positive
under 18, AI is a net negative
18-29, AI is a net positive
18-29, AI is a net negative
30-45, AI is a net positive
30-45, AI is a net negative
46-60, AI is a net positive
46-60, AI is a net negative
over 60, AI is a net postive
over 60, AI is a net negative
Question 2/3
How often do you visit or interact with museums/archives (whether in person or online)?
Frequently (multiple times per month)
Often (multiple times per year)
Occasionally (a couple times per year)
Rarely (once every couple of years)
Never :(
Question 3/3
If you saw a museum was using AI in exhibits, marketing, research, etc., would you be more or less inclined to visit that museum?
under 18, more inclined
under 18, less inclined
18-29, more inclined
18-29, less inclined
30-45, more inclined
30-45, less inclined
46-60, more inclined
46-60, less inclined
over 60, more inclined
over 60, less inclined
Thank you for helping with this data collection. Please rb for as big a sample as possible!
Edit: AI here is referring to generative AI, rather than closed models or custom made LLMs trained on internal datasets
Edit" "tumblr is not the best place to do data collection" "most biased sample group" yup. cool. good.

This poll hasn't even been active for 24 hours yet. I am so obsessed with it. I made a spreadsheet about it. And I look forward to adding the final results once it has closed.
There's a lot of "sample bias" feedback and although you're not wrong, I would challenge anyone to find a platform or sample source without that bias in either direction and an even bigger challenge would be finding literally anything else that over 97% of responders agree about.
I don't think over 40k of us can be so easily dismissed and companies and marketers would be choosing their own bias to ignore the market with its very loud feedback.

reading a textbook for class and i’m going insane. why is this just poetry. what. this is a STEM class what’s going on.
HELLO????? HELLO?????
"why is this just poetry" Because that is how science looks to those who love it. Certainly STEM is filled with career chasing opportunists, in it for the money, or the ego. But I have met so many professors who possess a love of their research, a wide-eyed fascination at the little discoveries that abound, that springs through when you ask them how something they've built works. This is how it looks to such people, the universe holding all its baffling nature as we sift through it for whatever we can understand.
As a chemist, when I hold a solution, and think about how it is made up of a few dozen sextillion tiny particles all bouncing off of each other's electric fields; How that infinitesimal quantum phenomena of energy levels, waves pretending at being more than disturbances in a potential field, and energetic minimization comes together to form all that we know; How every single thing I see is just the motion and energetic disturbances of atoms, sound travelling through them bumping into each other, my body moving by electrical conduction along nerves until they cause fibers to tense. The universe sings, and its voice is made up of infinite smaller voices.
