Pondering the idea that Noel generally lies but Liam tells the truth even if it’s only his truth. We say this a lot and maybe it’s because we hear from Liam and Noel in interviews and they use the press to send messages to one another (and others) because if anything said caused serious problems, then they could usually throw the journalist under the bus and claim misquoting, misunderstanding, or downright malicious intent.
I’m one of those weird people who think the tabloids were actually right most of the time. When Liam said he didn’t mind if they said he was drinking and drugging bc it was true but drew the line at them saying he was sleeping around on patsy bc it was false, the tabloids had the right of it. But good job on Liam for being a master manipulator. His comment wasn’t an attempt at shedding light on the shameful behavior of the British press. It was an attempt to gaslight patsy by using the poor reputation of the tabloids to lend credence to his words.
We say Liam is smart, but part of that for him is being conniving, deceptive, and manipulative. No more nor less than his brother. But Liam is better at it. Everyone knows going in that Noel is a master bullshitter. His advantage is that, even knowing this, you can’t help but like and be charmed by him. This is how he seduces. He can’t hide behind the fiction that he’s a straight-shooter and he doesn’t even try. Liam’s brilliance is that he’s able to sell himself as a truth-teller, to sell his bluntness as honesty, and to do so in a way that precludes further challenges.
