Warning: I write half through google translate and half on my own, so some of my thoughts may not be entirely clear ):

° It seems to me that Ra ended up in the Scare School because of his character: kind, a little naive, insecure and cowardly

° He disagrees with his father's rule in many ways (which could have been another reason for sending him to the Scare School).

° Ra is the future ruler of Egypt, who will inherit the throne from his father

° He will think about how much he wants to become a ruler at all

° It also seems to me that Ra is mostly agender and asexual, although he never thought about his identity in this regard

Its redesign (and more adult version, respectively) was inspired by real ancient Egyptian tombs and pharaohs' sarcophagi 🤓🤓🤓

Casper and the Spectrals is a wonderful reboot/re-imagining that got some critical acclaim, but unfortunately failed to gain much traction or gain much attention.

Written by Todd Dezago, illustrated by Pedro Delgado, and partly based on an idea by J.M. DeMatteis,  the book came out as a celebration of the 60th anniversary of “Casper the Friendly Ghost.”   Published by Arden Entertainment, it revamped Casper, Wendy the Good Witch, Hot Stuff, and other characters that had been published alongside Casper when the character appeared in Harvey Comics.

In the world of The Spectrals, Casper lives in Spooky Town, an other-dimensional city “parallel” to New York.  The residents of Spooky Town - ghosts, goblins, witches and the like - cross over periodically into the real world to give humans a bit of a scare, collecting “fear energy” that’s needed to maintain the prison of the evil Volbragg, an arch-ghost that terrorized all of Spooky Town, pitting all the different supernatural races against one another and causing resentment that still lingers.  Casper doesn’t like scaring humans though, and suspects that Volbragg might not be real… and even if the legend is true, surely someone willing to be Volbragg’s friend could get him to be nice?

Casper found a kindred spirit in Wendy, who was a bit more rough-and-tumble but shared his feelings about scaring humans.  And then the two met Hot Stuff, who didn’t exactly see eye-to-eye with them (he’s a mischievous little devil who likes scaring people… but willing to try and be better in order to make some friends).  Before the story wrapped up, the three had gotten in trouble with their families (witches being friends with ghosts?  Ghosts being friends with devil? It won’t do!), and a human scientist had managed to discover the energy potential of “fear energy,” weakening Volbragg’s prison in the process.

It’s good fun if you can find it, but unfortunately after the initial three issue miniseries we didn’t get more.  But with the news that Dreamworks has obtained the rights to Casper and the other characters, I’m hopeful we’ll see a future work that draws on the series.
