Author's Note: Moved into my new place yesterday. Took a break from decorating it for Halloween to write ideas for this and accidentally wrote the whole thing. Very unsoberly, so I'll need to reread tomorrow. I was giggling and kicking my feet making that first pic🤭 Y/N doesnt have to be blonde and stuff obviously. Anyways, I'll shut up, I'm a little early, but HAPPY HALLOWEEN🎃

The Kook house was decked out like something from a movie—giant cobwebs draped across the balconies, glowing skeletons posted at the gate, spooky animatronics, fog machines spilling mist across the yard, jack-o-lanterns lining the pool, which glowed bright red, green and purple. Inside, every surface dripped with Halloween spirit: black and orange string lights, bowls of candy scattered across marble counters, and drinks that looked more like science experiments than cocktails. Someone had even set up “blood bags” filled with punch and there was a "witch's brew" that bubbled suspiciously in a cauldron.
JJ had proudly handed you his favorite— a “Bloody Brain Shot." You had no idea what it was, but it looked like a crime scene in a glass, and you swallowed it with a giggle.
You were dressed as a fairy and he couldn't stop staring at you all night; your short pink dress, glitter on your cheeks and eyelids glistening under the lights and a dainty flower crown on your head. It almost pained him to look at you and not be able to do anything about how you were making him feel.
Your brother—and one of JJ's best friends—John B, had to continuously shoot him warning glares but JJ would just shrug it off, biting back a smirk.
He hadn't stopped looking at you from the second you had stepped out of the Chateau with Kiara (who was dressed as a hippie, of course), Sarah (a siren) and John B (a sailor).
Pope, who was dressed as Blackbeard (which he thought that he was hilarous for), had to snap his fingers to get JJ to look at him. "Did you even hear me? Oh my god, just tell her, it's getting annoying at this point."
"Chill, dude. It's not like that. I can't think my best friend looks hot?" He asked, still unable to take his eyes off you in your mini dress, little wings on your back fluttering, only looking over at Pope when your eyes met his. It really was very much like that.
"JJ!! I thought you were gonna be something!?" you shouted over to him and his eyes snapped right back over to yours.
"What could be better than being JJ Maybank, princess?" he held his hands in the air and smiled brightly. "I'd love to know."
You laughed and shook your head. "You're so lame."
"Maybe next year. You look hot though."
"Thanks, Jayj." You shook your head again, unable to stop the blush that crept across your cheeks as you held down your wings and hopped in the Twinkie.
"There, Pope, I told her," he mumbled with a smirk before jumping in with you.
John B groaned, as he followed him. "JJ, come on, man!"
Unfortunately, JJ wasn't the only one to notice how jawdroppingly gorgeous you looked that night. He watched you swerve Kook after Kook, smiling politely and then brushing them off. The sight of other guys trying to flirt with you made something hot coil in his chest. But, you'd always come right back to the group. Always back to him. Always with that silly Halloween cocktail in your hand, sipping it like it was the only thing in the room worth paying attention to. Every time you did, relief washed through him so strong he nearly forgot how much it scared him to feel this way.
Finally, the party was over and he had you all to himself on the Chateau's porch steps. You both had ingested way too much sugar to go to bed with everybody else.
John B was the last to go, shooting him a look that said "be good."
You passed him the joint that he'd saved for just the two of you. "Remember when we used to trick or treat as kids?"
JJ smirked around the smoke, exhaling toward the night sky. “In all the Kook neighborhoods. The big houses with the full-sized candy bars.”
You laughed, nodding. “You used to stress me out so bad. Every time we came to one of those houses with a sign that said ‘Take one,’ you’d dump the entire bowl into your pillowcase."
JJ grinned, unashamed. “And what? We had candy for months. I was thinking long-term investment. You, meanwhile, were panicking like the Halloween police were gonna arrest us.”
You rolled your eyes, plucking the joint out of his fingers. "You'd take the bowls too. Like, why?? You were such a little asshole."
"Don't remember you complaining when I shared the candy with you," he smirked, bumping his shoulder with yours.
"Whatever, Candy Bandit," you laughed, handing him the joint and leaning forward to wrap your arms around your legs, cold from the fall air. The movement caused your fairy wings to smack him in the face, making you laugh harder. "Shit, sorry!"
"Ts'fine. Mighta burned a hole in your wing though, sorry, Tinkerbell."
You giggled and shrugged it off. "It's kinda chilly. Wanna go watch a scary movie or something?"
He nodded, the corner of his lips curling. "Yeah, sure."
You curled up on the couch under a fuzzy blanket, cheeks warm and eyes glassy from the drinks, a beer in one hand, a candy bar in the other, wings discarded on the floor. JJ sat on the other end of couch. He could barely focus on the screen. You looked so good—messy flower crown slipping sideways, lips shiny from chocolate, eyes wide on the TV as things were getting intense.
He knew the jump scare was coming. The tension in the room was building, and just as the music swelled, he leaned toward you with a devious grin.
You squealed, jumping so hard the blanket nearly flew off you. “JJ!” you whisper yelled, immediately pouncing on him. You smacked his shoulder, laughing even as you scolded, “That wasn't cool! I hate you!” But you were grinning, half on top of him, your laughter spilling out uncontrollably. He just looked smug, proud of himself, until the air shifted. You both froze, realizing how close you were—your knees bracketing his thigh, your dress riding up as you straddled him.
The smugness in his face began to fade and he gently placed a hand on your knee as if to tell you not to move.
And then you closed the gap between the two of you. And you slid fully on his lap.
The kiss was clumsy at first, all giggles and nerves, but the second his hands slid up to grip your soft thighs, pulling you closer, it deepened. You melted against him, his lips and tongue moving with yours. He could hardly convince himself that this was happening and neither could you.
"You taste like chocolate," he chuckled into your lips.
You leaned your forehead on his and smiled softly, eyes half lidded. "Bet I do."
"Been wantin', you like this all night."
You froze and chewed your bottom lip, forehead against his. "Yeah?"
"Yeah. I mean way before tonight. But tonight—oh my god, you look fucking gorgeous," he kissed you again, hungrily. "My little fairy."
You couldn't help but smile so hard that it was almost painful. "Thanks, Jayj. Really?"
"Yeah, really. Couldn't stand all those Kooks looking at you like that. Couldn't blame em though. Prettiest girl in the fucking world," he squeezed your hips tight and pressed his lips to your neck, sucking softly, emitting a moan from you. "And you're sitting on my lap."
Sarah stumbled in, half-asleep, smudged makeup from her siren costume still streaked across her face. “Is everything o—” she paused, blinking, then her eyes went wide. “OH. MY. GOD.”
The two of you pulled apart, turning towards her, eyes wide, lips a darker shade of pink.
John B appeared right behind her in his sailor shirt and sweatpants, rubbing his eyes. “What’s happening?”
"You don't even wanna know," Sarah giggled, tugging his arm away, smirking at you excitedly.
He processed the scene on the couch in front of him and covered his face with his hands with a disturbed groan. "JJ, really?!"
Sarah tugged his arm again as she began to walk back towards the hallway. "I told you there's nothing you can do to stop it."
John B shook his head and followed. "Whatever, man, I'm going back to bed. We'll talk tomorrow."
You both burst into quiet giggles after they'd walked away and shut the bedroom door behind them. JJ pulled you down to kiss him again and you hummed happily, arms tightening around his neck.
"He's gonna beat my ass," he mumbled against your lips causing another nervous giggle to escape you. "I'm gonna end up just like that." He pointed at the screen and you looked over your shoulder to see one of the characters in the movie getting brutally murdered.
"I won't let that happen, Jayj." You turned back towards him with a hungry smile. "Don't worry about it right now, just kiss me, please?" You ground your hips against his lap a little bit with a soft hum.
He let out a sharp breath and squeazed your hips tight to still you, as much as he wanted you to keep going. "You need to stop before your brother walks out into his own personal horror movie."
