hey, there! welcome to caffeinated catbird, a book blog.

you can call me cat (she/her). i'm a uni student studying english--despite that, i barely read on my own. i read voraciously when i was younger, and that's the spirit i'm trying to revive in myself this summer.

whenever i read, i get very involved. the characters' language becomes my language, their world becomes my world, their stress become my stress. it can be difficult to separate myself from them, even after i've finished the book.

i thought a space to dump my thoughts might be helpful. this blog has been sitting relatively unused for a few months, so i thought it would be cool to use it as a space to process all of my emotions about a book.

that's what you'll find here. if you think my thoughts are at least mildly interesting, feel free to follow me. if you think i'll like a book or just want to say hi, my ask box is always open.

i've had this book for about 24 hours now, and it's the first book in a long time that has held such a vice grip on me. thank you, jeanine cummins.

it's reminding me of khaled hosseini's a thousand splendid suns, a book i read in high school, and that is far from a bad thing.

there is a quote on page 210 that i want to preserve:

"From now on, when we board, each time we board, I will remind you to be terrified," she says. "And you remind me, too; this is not normal." "This is not normal." Soledad nods.

also: is luca written to be on the autism spectrum? i've been a little bit annoyed by how mature he's written for an 8-year-old, but only recently realized it might be purposeful.

i should be able to finish this tonight. i am so anxious for them. i NEED them to be okay, i don't know what i'll do if they aren't!!!!!

it is crazy to me that people think we can do literally anything on our own. we were not made to be totally self-sufficient. isolation and exile were punishments for a reason. quit acting like any of this is supposed to be done alone and go make some friends.
