Carter nodded slowly and then looked back towards the nurse as he left. He didn’t move for a moment as he looked at Leo, chewing his lip. Finally, he stepped closer to the bed, though he wasn’t going to be sitting. He was too keyed up for that.
He cleared his throat. “Leo?” he asked carefully. He gave a small smile. He looked better and Carter was thankful for that. “I told you that you wouldn’t die,” he said jokingly. “How are you feeling?”
Leo recognized the man’s voice right away. Finally, someone that wasn’t about to poke him with god know’s what. He snapped back into attention, trying to focus on the blurry figure before him. “You’re still here?” He asked, unable to keep himself from smiling just a bit. His neck had been bandaged, blood staining the wrap.
“I’m alright. Really fuckin’ sore, b-but you’re right, I ain’t dead.” Really, if it hadn’t been for Carter, he likely wouldn’t have made it though. “Thanks for taking me here. I-I don’t remember much, but I definitely remember you.”
Carter gave a half smile, giving a small laugh. “I’m still here,” he said in confirmation. “I wanted to make sure you were okay.” It hadn't even been a long time but he felt like he had to make sure Leo got through this. At least he was doing better. Without thinking, he reached forward to pat Leo's hand, giving a gentle squeeze.
He blushed a bit when he pulled his hand back, clearing his throat. "It's not a problem at all. Y-you think I would just leave you out there like that?" he asked, tilting his head with a smile. "I didn't expect you to remember me at all. You were pretty out of it."
