Finally, finally finished! Medibang Paint Pro is still fabulous, I just need to learn to paint more quickly.
"Mother?" "Steven, you have forgotten me." "No! How could I?" "You have forgotten who you are and so have forgotten me. Look inside yourself, Steven." I don't keep up with the show but I feel like we're gonna learn that the big pink lion was really Steven's mom the whole time. Either that or he's a big sentient casette player who was just hanging onto that VHS tape until he could get upgraded.
Ever accidentally spend too many hours painting? I had that happen today.
Not sure if I want to do more with it or not. Close enough, though.
Trying to loosen up. Ballpoint pen and digital.
Master studies should be done regularly. Like vitamins. Bouguereau's The Shepardess, drawn with ink & black colored pencil.
From my handmade notebook, which I carry everywhere. Like a teeny security blanket of ink and wood pulp.
A lot of artists donât allow enough room for the chin, particularly in anime styles. This results in a character that looks child-like.
âSymphesis pubisâ is the fancy name for the pubic bone. Ever see that sort of seam on the front of the pelvis on a skeleton? Thatâs the symphesis pubis.
Eight heads is a little long for realism but itâs a common idealized figure, and hopefully the quick divisions help somebody. God knows I could have used them years ago.
Hope you guys can read my handwriting!
!!! Useful tips. Â Also a secondary consideration to avoid anime mouth: the edges of a mouth at rest or in a gentle smile will line up under the middle of each eye, as you can see above.
Oooh, good one. And we can add that to the list of things I never noticed in anime, like verbs ending in -masu.

The Power of Stubbornness
There are some pictures that just canât be helped. But a lot can, if you just keep going. When I google quotations on stubbornness, I find a lot of negative stuff. Stubbornness isnât just about being unreasonable, foolish, and unyielding. Itâs about ALWAYS being unreasonable, foolish, and unyielding. Stubbornness doesnât even know what giving up looks like.
Take a bad picture and unleash the power of stubbornness.Â
Hereâs my original sketch, some coloring attempts that werenât working (yet?), and its current state as of this morning. Donât ever delude yourself into thinking that a bad picture canât be transformed into a good picture, or that youâre the only one who struggles with bad initial sketches. Many, many artists produce many, many bad sketches. But look for the good parts, and keep pushing it.
First attempts at layered oil painting technique. Wish my glaze on the rose hadn't been quite so dark, because honestly I like the underpainting better, but it's dry now. Seriously hoping to sit and paint tonight and pull in some lights. Funnily enough, the iPad's autocorrect does not know the word underpainting, and suggests that I describe this post as "rose underpants".
I keep doing zentangle-y things.
Steven Universe fan art just for kicks and to loosen up.
Might've accidentally gotten decent at painting dark skin tones.
Head study. Need to do more of these...
Sketch a sketch a sketch a sketch. Working on my head drawing skills.
Breakfast time!
Jelly and some toast for all you tumblr kids.
