When you realize that Mike’s parents also thought he was gay like how Johnathan and Joyce figured out about Will.

Ted says something about Will’s disappearance along the lines of “you see Micheal? You see what happens?” Keep in mind everyone in the town probably knows about the rumors of Will, and Ted being Ted probably knows that people believe Will’s gay.

Karen says something about how she wants Mike to know he can talk to her, that she’ll love him no matter what.

Bonus that all of the slurs that Troy says about Will he says directly to Mike.

Someone has definitely pointed this out but I believe that one of the Duffers excuses for not making byler cannon (I don’t remember where I heard this) was that they wanted to keep the characters true to themselves but along with the fact that a majority of the characters were butchered Mike being gay would have been more in character from hints than him being straight. Even Mike being Bi would make more sense than him being straight.
