New dad, originally a gamer, finding the best way to balance the two! Come along for the journey. I plan to review kids stuff I personally use as well as video games I personally play.

It’s really really gonna happen and soon...

So I’ve literally been putting it off for some time now.  I have the equipment - I just need to put together a side table (laptop computer desk) I can put next to my gaming systems.  So the plan is to get it done this week and start streaming by next - sooner if I can swing it.

I’m thinking a hour or so each day to get started with a mix of game types.  I was actually thinking about Mass Effect, but playing through alternating between the good and bad answers for conversations.  I generally plan on the nice guy side since I am a nice guy - I have to work at being more of a paragon type of person.

But my latest distraction has been Dynasty Warriors.  Yes yes, it’s basically mindless button mashing, but it’s nice to just veg out sometimes you know?  I have snuck a little bit of Final Doom on my PC over the last few weeks.  I just Love that soundtrack - very fitting or each of the stages.  I remember I had a friend in HS who put all the DOOM music on CD at the time and would listen to it in his car. 

It’s hard to find a game with really good music to accompany a great game, but it can be done.  Just look at Assassins Creed II - some AMAZING music with a great game.

Touchdown!  Potty

Another big step in dadhood today - my son told me her had to go potty before going.  Yep, I was there, so I know it actually happened.

You know, everyone who is a parent advises you when you are going through everything for the first time that the awesome little moments more than make up for all the not so great moments - and they are SO right.  Doesn’t matter he had an accident earlier today - he told me he had to go BEFORE GOING!  It’s as exciting as Winning the lotto...well, sort of.  Emotionally on par, yes. 

I got all the equipment together, so game streaming is going to become a reality and soon.  I’ll post my schedule once I figure everything out.  I’ll probably just be on Twitch for now - Youtube has more hoops to jump through in it’s own way.  We’ll see how things go.

Time to change things up

I’m planning to go from 20 to 60 in terms of time as DAD.  I’m taking care of my son full time starting next week, and there is a lot to tackle.  Potty training has been an ongoing challenge the last 6 months - and I see more challenges ahead.  The good news, he knows what going potty means.  The bad news - he still doesn’t know when it’s coming - it’s usually after the fact that I know he’s gone.

First step is prompting him to try to go every time we leave and arrive anywhere.  That means bringing the little potty (we have a travel one) whenever.  But I am NOT going to let that get me down - I’m going to take him all over with me.  it’s time to start pushing his boundaries a bit more!

Of course, if I keep him busy during the day, I’ll have more time to game at night.  I am just about to buy a game capture device for my newer game systems.  I also plan to buy one that will work with older component systems so I can capture PS2 and Gamecube games.  Hopefully I can publish some consistent gaming times soon - I’m thinking of a theme by day focused on certain game genres or systems or a combination of both. stay tuned!

Monday...but with a taste of summer

It’s those amazingly sunny, crystal blue sky types of days that make you antsy.  At least, it makes me antsy.  An urge to take a walk out in nature just sort of dominates my thinking.

Of course, I heard about a study that was done with people whow went camping with no contact with the outside world for 3 weeks.  And they all came back refreshed, energized, reinvigorated.

Everyone should try and take some along time in nature - even if that means driving an hour.  it’s worth it - the sense of relaxation sort of waves through your body.  Helps melt the stress of the day/week/year away...

The future is near...

I am in the process of setting up all my associated social accounts, just have a few more items to set up and I plan to start streaming! 

I read that Kinects for xbox one only last a few years before conking out, which is a bummer when you have to drop $99 bux, but there you go.  Seems like it’d be a better option to just step up and buy a HD capture device I can use across devices.

Now I have to make the decision on which device to use - stay tuned!

Hit the reset button!

I had a great idea I did not follow through on - all me.  Life happens, and it interrupted my flow!  The good news is, I am still determined to make it happen.  Now that my son has reached 2 1/2, I have a more defined schedule which will enable me to plan video game playing and reviews.

Welcome Aboard!

Thanks for checking my blog out.  It's my first post, so I won't have any reviews quite yet - probably start with a mix of kids stuff and video games released in the last year.  Seems like a lot of the big games were delayed a year -but what else is new? 

On the parenting side, my son is about 5 1/2 months, so many things I'll review will be items I've been using for some time. 

I look forward to taking this journey with you!
