This is a blog for writeblr collaboration where your characters will be thrust into a world they know nothing about! At the end of the month, characters will be submitted, and at the beginning of the next month, they will be brought into the world. My main blog is @concealeddarkness13
I am so sorry again for how late the ending was. Thank you so much for your patience! I probably wonât be able to host another of these events for a while now. If you want to provide some feedback for the event, please message me! I will add any finale writing pieces that are posted after this is posted.

@maple-writes, @onmywaytobe, and @kiljoytrout: Wayne sighs. âWeâre going to escape. I know how to pilot these crafts, but anyone who wants to help can. Iâll be bringing you back to the main world, and Iâll take you somewhere safe until you are taken back to your world.âÂ
And he proceeds to do just that. Warren, Leo, and Lindy are brought back to the main world, and Wayne takes them to a secluded cave that no one comes by. He seems deflated, but he will answer any of their questions. Itâs a quiet stay until they are taken back to their separate worlds a few days later.
@alannaofroses: Vaia is defeated, and Kaito nods at Aura and Cinder. âThank you.â He then looks down at her and frowns. âNow, whatâs the best course for you?â
She winces again, and his eyes flicker to the machine on her neck. âI will be forced to escape no matter what. And my magic makes it easy for me to escape. It would probably be best for you to just let me go.â
He sighs and glances back at the cave. âThatâs not the only course of action.â
Vaia seems to get it. She nods. âYes, you can kill me. Honestly, I welcome death after everything Iâve been forced to do.â
He swallows hard. âYou have the darkness magic, right?â She nods, and he kneels down next to her. âThen this shouldnât be a problem.â He crafts a knife from golden light and, instead of killing her, cuts out the machine. She screams, but darkness dances across her skin, and the wound is healed. She looks up at him, and he shakes his head. âNow, they canât control you remotely at least. Do you still want to escape and go back to them?â She shakes her head, and he nods and gestures for her to join them.
Inside the cave, the girl is resting peacefully, and a new woman is there. It turns out the procedure worked. Setza and Richter thank Kaito, Aura, and Cinder, and they ask if Aura and Cinder want to continue travelling with them. Whatever they decide, they have a quiet time until they are summoned back to their world a few days later.
@perringwrites: Zeth looks over at Oliver, and she nods. With both of them working together, they take down the woman and knock her unconscious. Sitara talks with Holst some more, and he does give her the machine she was looking for. They head back out, and Sitara moves away from the city before settling down and studying the machine. During breaks, she talks with Oliver and shows him how the motorcycle works. Zeth even opens up a little to Oliver and showing him her prosthetics. Everyone, of course, loves Angel. Theyâre heading back to the meet-up point to see how Setza and Richter are doing when Oliver and Angel are summoned back to their world.
Both Aura and Cinder are at a disadvantage. Aura, while trained in combat, is hampered by her leg braces. She takes a position behind some rocks and uses her (gun-ish/energy) weapon. While it doesnât seem to have much effect against magic, it does distract the woman long enough for Kaito to get in a hit or two. Cinder goes for a more MacGyver approach, using the environment. She throws a fistful of sand in the womanâs eyes, trips her with branches, throws rocks to disrupt her casting. With both of them providing cover, Kaito is eventually victorious.

The girl in the ventilation shaft leads Leo and Lindy to another group who look like theyâre planning on escaping. Lindy hears the testimony about how bad the Chikara are and decides to join the group in the escape.Â
Dissidia Writeblr March 2021 Week 5 Warren Summary
Iâm so sorry for how late this is. I will try to finish this up tonight! This is quoted directly from @maple-writes.

Warren follows along with Wayneâs lead without a fuss. When Leo and Lindy appear in the hanger too, they greet Leo to make sure heâs alright. They talk a little with the others if theyâre up to it, and theyâll go escape with Wayne regardless of whether or not anyone stays behind. If people do stay behind though, theyâll make sure to say goodbye before they go.
is it late? yes. is it long? not as long as it could be. is it done? yes and that's the most important part I think
this piece includes characters kindly borrowed from @maple-writes and @kiljoytrout ty i hope i did them justice even though i didn't give them much to do
thank you as always to @dissidia-writeblr for running this event i am so sorry i'm never as capable as i think i am
The person that meets Lindy and Leo in the ventilation shaft is a girl who looks to be a teenager with dark brown hair in a ponytail and light brown eyes. She reminds Leo a lot of how he used to be, a kid too young for the trouble she was getting into. She frowns at them. âYou arenât Chikara. Were you also imprisoned here?â
Leo doesnât trust his tacit companion to respond, so he says, âWe were. Someone came and let us out. We were looking for the hangar.â
The girl nods. âWe heard someone crawling around up here, so I had to go check it out. You can never be too careful.â We? Leo hopes sheâs talking about a group of friendly people. He doesnât want to be around the fighting anymore. âFollow me. Weâre escaping,â she says before turning and crawling away.
Leo and Lindy follow her. Trepidation builds in Leoâs newly healed chest, and he tries to wave it away. Heâs in danger. He needs to escape, apparently. Heâs no stranger to crawling around in ventilations shafts, but thatâs usually someone elseâs job. And heâs never had to worry about fighting for his life, only being arrested. Heâs way out of his depth, and he knows it.
The girl leads them through the ventilation shaft into a room with different ships that can take them off the moon; the hangar. Three other people are in the room: Warren and two strangers. Leoâs heart collapses with relief when he sees Warren looking shaken, but unharmed. One of the strangers, a man with short black hair and wearing a soldierâs uniform, runs up to Lindy and Leo. He looks them over and frowns at Leo, which Leo tries not to take personally. âYou were the one that came with Warren. Whereâs Tess?â he asks, a little too accusatory for Leoâs liking.
âTess took off our chains and stayed behind to fight Tidis and the others,â Leo says defensively. Itâs not his fault she threw herself into a losing battle. Not his fault he was taken to this moon in the first place either. Definitely not his fault that these strangers put themselves in danger to rescue him. He still wasnât sure he even needed rescuing. The Chikara werenât dangerous to him until someone else â Tess â had attacked them.
The man takes a deep breath and nods. âSheâll keep the Chikara distracted enough that we should have no trouble escaping. Letâs go.â
The others follow him right away as he starts to head towards one of the ships, but Leo hesitates. âWait,â he says. Warren turns back to look at him like heâs crazy. âThese people healed me. Why should I run away from them?â
âThe Chikara arenât people,â the uniformed man hisses. âTheyâre beings whose magical abilities have perverted their sense of right and wrong. Trust me, you donât want to get on their bad side.â
âI wasnât on their bad side until you people came along,â Leo argues, folding his arms.
The girl who had been with Warren before took a step towards Leo. âI was imprisoned here for months, Leo,â she says softly. As he scans her face, he knows sheâs telling the truth. She looks thin and pale, her green hair limp. âThe Chikara are selfish, not kind. I do not know what their plans for you might be, but it would be better for you if you came with us.â
âNyr is right,â Warren adds. âThey were rough with me too. Threw me in a cell, chained me up. We should go with Wayne.â They gesture at the man in the uniform.
âGood enough for me,â Lindy says gruffly, shouldering past Leo. Leo stands there, still so unsure, watching everyone else start towards a ship not too far from them.
Warren stays back the longest, looking over Leo. âAre you okay? Did they really heal you like they said they would?â
âYes.â Leo sighs. He doesnât think he has to explain that he feels as though he owes them a debt.
He didnât expect Warrenâs response. âThen you have no reason to stay.â
âWhat?â Leo gapes at them.
Warren shrugs. âThe way I see it, you got what you wanted, and now you can leave. The Chikara are bad news, Leo. Iâm not sticking around here.â They start to leave, taking a long enough time that they clearly want Leo to follow. And he does, after another moment of hesitation. He trusts Warren more than the others, if only because theyâre so kind compared to the others. Leo didnât often get treated with kindness. If they wanted him by their side, heâd oblige.
Leo jogs up to the rest of the group as they ascend a walkway into the belly of the ship. He feels prickles of defensiveness as Lindy appraises him and Warren, but relaxes as soon as Lindy says, âYouâre not from around here either, are you?â He juts his chin out at Warren. Knowing this is what passes for conversation with this guy, Leo chooses to largely ignore him.
âOh, no.â Warrenâs reply is nearly lost in the bustle of Wayne and the others getting the ship ready for takeoff. âI should be in a copy room right now.â Leo stifles a chuckle. Heâs not sure why, but the response tickles him.
It turns out there were more people aboard the ship than Leo had thought there were. This rescue effort had required quite the team to pull off. Lindy gets a shifty look in his eyes and mumbles something about wanting to see the cockpit, but Leo is more interested in the whispered conversation he overhears between Nyr and the girl he met in the ventilation shaft with the ponytail.
âWeâre not planning to leave Tess behind, are we?â the ponytailed girl hisses.
âAsk Wayne,â Nyr replies tiredly.
âAfter what she must have gone through to rescue usââ
âLeave it, Kai.â Nyr looks around furtively. âItâs not up to me.â
Kai frowns at her. Leo is about to interrupt when Wayne comes back to the hold with the rest of them. âGood, youâre all here.â He looks prepared to make a speech.
âYes, we are.â Leo canât help mouthing off. Heâs confused, frustrated, and still high on the feeling of health coursing through his body. âNow what, exactly, is supposed to happen next?â
yes i am ashamed this is so late and so long but thanks to @kiljoytrout i didn't have to come up with like half of this stuff! thanks for taking my boyo and bringing him out of his shell and writing your piece for both of us.
as always thank you to @dissidia-writeblr for putting on this event!!
When Leo opens his eyes, he finds Zeph smiling at him serenely. The amount of oxygen in his lungs is dizzying. Heâs barely conscious as Zeph pulls out heavy black chains and binds his hands together. âThese wonât hurt at all,â she says, her pasted-on smile some semblance of reassuring. âTheyâre just a precaution to nullify any magic or advanced tech you might have.â When Leo doesnât resist, she adds, âThank you for your cooperation.â
As if he could fight someone like her. With those wings, and her magic, heâd be ended in an instant. And he doesnât want to fight back. What kind of thanks would that be for what theyâve done for him? The new sensations in his body are overwhelming, but there is no doubt in Leoâs mind that he has been healed.
Heâs never felt like this before. Clear lungs, free of the constant phlegm that plagued him his entire life. No shooting stomach pains, no cramps, nothing like the variety of symptoms he was used to telling him that one of his organs was malfunctioning. He is now at the peak of health. It would take a little getting used to.
Leo barely notices as Zeph leads him into a cell and leaves him there. Leo is glad of the chance to rest, but after an hour or so passes he begins to get antsy. There is so much energy coursing through his body and he doesnât have anywhere to go. He satisfies himself by looking around the room. Thereâs nothing to see besides the uncomfortable chair he sits on, its twin across from him, and a bucket in the corner. His nose wrinkles at the sight, but he knows he wonât be in there long enough to need the makeshift toilet. Heâs a little hurt that the Chikara would heal him only to dump him in a holding cell, but Zeph said it was all just a precaution.
Precaution or no, Leo wants to make sure he can get out if things go sideways. The chairâs frame is rusty enough that he is able to tug some of the spokes free from the underside. The long pieces of metal are a little on the thick side for what he wants, but theyâll have to do. He examines the lock on his chains, allowing himself a small grin. He neednât have worried. This would only take him a moment to remove.
Content to wait, Leo twiddles his thumbs until the door to the cell slams open, most unexpectedly. A woman with short, blond hair and dark green eyes runs in, and sheâs wearing a soldierâs uniform. Leo raises an eyebrow at the sudden intrusion. âMy name is Tess, and Iâm here to help you escape.â She unlocks his chains. âDo you trust me?â
Leo doesnât get the chance to tell her no. The door to the room opens again, and two Chikara walk in with another man, also wearing the black chains. Tess curses under her breath, and golden light starts dancing along her skin like fire. This is enough of a surprise to the Chikara that she is able to pull the stranger away from them and try to take his chains off too. Leo still hasnât moved from his seat, despite his hands being freed. Heâs not a fighter.
The Chikara are still coming for them, and at that moment Tidis arrives. He smirks when his eyes land on Tess. âAnd one of the rebels returns. Today is my lucky day.â Light and darkness start swirling on his skin.
Tess curses again and pushes Leo and the stranger to the door on the other side of the room. âLeo, Lindy, find Wayne. Heâs rescued Warren. He should be going to the hangar where they keep their ships,â she hisses under her breath at them. She pushes them through the door and locks it from the inside.
Leo immediately turns to his companion. âWere you also summoned?â he asks. He would need to know as much as he could about his new ally if they ran into any more trouble. âHow do you know-â
The guy gives Leo a cold look, and Leo quiets, falling into step alongside his new friend as he stalks off. Leo is quite shaken by his removal from the cell, and still adjusting to his new body. It made him bold enough to join this stranger on whatever mission he was so intent on. Besides, anything that took him further away from the magic battle was all right with Leo.
The stranger is observing the space around them, taking it in with what Leo could only describe as awe. Perhaps he was familiar with these sorts of things. It would be helpful for someone who knew what was going on to be on Leoâs side. He grimaces, rattling the heavy chains still locked around his arms. Leo notices, patting his pockets for the makeshift lockpick heâd fashioned earlier, and finds it missing. Must have dropped it in all the commotion. He spots an antenna on the wall that would be much better suited and twists it off, making a move to unlock his companionâs chains.
Leo hadnât said anything, since the other guy (Lindy? Was that his name that Tess had shouted at them?) didnât want to talk, and now found himself being smacked into the side of the corridor. âWhat the hell, man!â Leo sputters. âI was just trying to pick the lock on your chains.â He definitely should have explained first. Thatâs what he gets for trying to be considerate.
âOh.â Lindy doesnât apologize, but helps up Leo from the floor and wordlessly stretches out his arm for Leo to have easier access to the lock. After a few twists, the chains slip off easily. Leo keeps the antenna, and grabs one of the locks as well. Never know when these things could come in handy.
They continue walking, and the echo of their footsteps in the silence makes Leo lonely. He misses the comforting presence of Warren. They had been a much more agreeable companion than this Lindy fellow. At least Lindy seemed to know where he was going, his pace measured and sure, never hesitating at crossroads. Leo wondered how he knew, and how Lindy had ended up in the same chains as himself if he was so familiar with the way the Chikara lived.
âWho is Warren?â Lindy asks suddenly.
For a second, Leo wonders whether Lindy can read his mind. If he wasnât already convinced that this was a dream, he was considering the possibility again. But after his moment of shock, heâs more surprised that Lindyâs even said anything at all, considering theyâve spent the last few hours in complete silence.
âWhy do you want to know?â Leo replies pointedly. Why not ask about this Wayne, for instance?
Lindy doesnât answer, only pausing to shoot Leo a sideways glance. It looks a little too close to sympathy for Leoâs liking. Leo narrows his eyes at Lindy, who of course doesnât notice.
After another few moments of uncomfortable silence, Leo sighs. He might as well talk to this Lindy person, if only to get him to stop looking at him with such pity. âThey were one of the first normal people I met when I got summoned to this place. Got to know them pretty well. We were separated a little while ago though.â
âOh.â
Leo rolls his eyes. That seemed to be half of this guyâs vocabulary. He was so glad heâd made such an effort. Clearly Lindy thought the conversation would be of some benefit to Leo, but Leo would have been just as content with silence.
They walk on in silence for a few more minutes when Lindy comes to a stop. Leo stares at him curiously as he starts to tap his finger against a sheet of metal on the wall.
âThis shouldnât be here,â Lindy says thoughtfully.
Leo is in no mood to be civil. Apparently this sheet of metal meant more than a human conversation. âWell, it obviously is there, so I donât know what to tell you.â
Lindy just stares at Leo for one beat with those watery blue eyes, and itâs as good as any death glare; the hair on Leoâs neck prickles. âWhat I mean is that there should be an entrance here to the hangars, but it seems that theyâve blocked this one up.â
âWe just have to take it down then,â Leo says nonchalantly. âItâs just flimsy sheet metal.â He kicks at the metal covering and immediately regrets it. Pain radiates through his bones like an alarm blaring, and he falls to the floor. Lindy looks down at him, expressionless, while Leo groans. âOww.â
âItâs not sheet metal,â Lindy explains. âItâs probably either titanium reinforced Kevlar, or some otherworld material. You can tell from the lack of sheen that itâs durable.â
Through gritted teeth, Leo manages, âWhy didnât you tell me that before I kicked it?â
Still staring down at him, Lindy replies, âYou didnât ask.â
Eyes watering, Leo takes the hand that Lindy offers with more than a hint of irritation. It was becoming apparent that Lindy did not care one whit for Leo.
Lindy, paying him no mind, is surveying their surroundings. âGive me a leg up,â Lindy says, nodding to a panel heâs noticed above their heads. Leo follows his gaze and understands immediately. He boosts Lindy up on his shoulders. Besides the painful protesting of his ankle, itâs not too bad. Maybe the healing process had made him stronger.
After a bit of tinkering, Leo hears a creak from up above, the weight on his shoulders vanishes, and Lindyâs hand extends from up above to help him up.
âAre you sure thatâs stable?â Leo calls, but heâs already taking Lindyâs hand, so heâll find out one way or another. Lindy doesnât respond anyway.
Leo cranes his neck around the cramped ventilation shaft, in which both of them are crouching down as low as they can. By the soft indentation in the metal, grooves caused by the unmistakable impressions of knees and hands and occasional banged heads, he can tell that this is certainly more than your run-of-the-mill ventilation shaft.
âThis way,â Lindy says, motioning to the left of their loose panel. Leo falls back behind him and the two crawl down the seemingly endless shaft. It only occasionally quivers in a way that makes Leo nervous that it canât support their weight.
Leo finds himself yawning as they go along. He never thought that getting summoned to another universe would be so tiring, or so dull. Almost in response to his thoughts, he hears a huge bang from the other side of the tunnel.
They both freeze.
âWhat does that mean?â whispers Leo.
After a beat of silence, the banging starts to get closer. Lindy turns pale.
Oliver does a whisper. Again, thanks to @dissidia-writeblr for hosting. This was super fun!
Walking through the streets, he didnât realize how much he missed civilization. There was just something comforting about the hard concrete beneath his feet. Angel, too, seemed to agree, and she bounced from one object to another, sniffing everything her nose could reach.
Hereâs the final prompt! After this week, Iâll write a summary finale that youâre welcome to write a piece about it too! Thank you so much for participating! I hope you enjoyed it! Preferably, responses should be posted by Monday, April 12 at noon Central time! If anyone has any questions or want to collaborate with my characters, please contact me! Tagging: @tcstu and @ratracechronicler!
@onmywaytobe, @kiljoytrout, and @maple-writes: The person that meets Lindy and Leo in the ventilation shaft is a girl who looks to be a teenager with dark brown hair in a ponytail and light brown eyes. She frowns at them. âYou arenât Chikara. Were you also imprisoned here?â After they respond, she nods. âWe heard someone crawling around up here, so I had to go check it out. You can never be too careful. Follow me. Weâre escaping.âÂ
She leads them through the ventilation shaft into a room with different ships that can take them off the moon. Three other people are in the room: Wayne, Nyr, and Warren. Wayne runs up to Lindy and Leo, and he frowns, especially looking at Leo. âYou were the one that came with Warren. Whereâs Tess?âÂ
After they explain, Wayne takes a deep breath and nods. âSheâll keep the Chikara distracted enough that we should have no trouble escaping. Letâs go.â
How do Lindy, Leo, and Warren interact? Do they decide to escape right away?
@alannaofroses: Aura and Cinder follow the man outside the cave, where a woman with long, light pink hair and silver eyes stands. She looks sorrowful as she looks the three of them up and down, her eyes lingering on the man. âKaito, I--Iâve been sent by the Chikara to capture you traitors. You are needed to right this worldâs magic imbalance. If you and any other traitors in that cave do not agree to come with me, I will be forced to take you by force.â She winces and puts a hand up to her neck, where a small machine is embedded into her skin.Â
Kaito shakes his head. âWeâre not going back to the Chikara. Iâm sorry.â
She nods, and her eyes flash purple before she summons purple flames to her hands, and darkness dances along her skin like fire. She stares at Kaito. âMy name is Vaia, and I am the one who received the magic that was taken from you.â
What do Aura and Cinder do? How do they fight?
@perringwrites: Sitara and Zeth lead Oliver into the city with Sitaraâs devices working to make them invisible to anyone who was not wearing the devices, so they can still see each other. The devices look like gloves, with one on each hand: the left one keeps them silent, and the right one keeps them invisible. There is a button on each of them that turns the devices on or off. Sitara even has one of each device for Angel, which are fitted on her front legs.
They sneak over to a large office building. Itâs easy to remain undetected because there arenât many people on the streets anyway. Sitara searches until she finds a door that leads to a science lab filled with machinery. She closes the door behind them and whispers, âThe machine weâre looking for would probably have some way to give and take away something, like magic. I havenât actually seen it, but Iâve heard itâs still a prototype, so it should be in this room. Sorry thereâs not more information.âÂ
They scatter to look through the room, but before they can get very far, the door opens, and an older, bald man with a black beard, speckled with white hairs walks in. Sitara freezes as she was picking up a machine, and he frowns at the floating machine (from what he can see). âWhoâs there?â
Sitara motions for the other two to not reveal themselves before she does reveal herself. She smiles. âHolst! Long time, no see!â
He frowns for a little bit, but then he grins and hugs her. âSitara! Itâs been so long! Iâm sorry I had to leave you. Ritania does not take refusals well. But...why are you here?â
She laughs. âTo steal one of your awesome inventions! That machine that can take magic away from a being and give it to someone else. Canât you just give it to me?â
He frowns again. âWhile Iâd love to, itâs more complicated than that...â
Just as he says that, the door slams open, and a woman with short, black hair and gray eyes walks in and frowns at the scene. âWhoâs this?â
Holst starts wringing his hands. âThis is Sitara. She was my apprentice. She unexpectantly decided to visit me.â
A dangerous smile appears on the womanâs lips. She walks over to Sitara, who also looks nervous, and holds out her hand. âWell, child, my name is Chial. I am the leader of Ritania. We have a need for your talents, so you must join us. I wonât take no for an answer.â
Zeth tenses but waits for Sitaraâs signal. What will Oliver do?
Weâre almost done! Thanks again for @dissidia-writeblrâ for hosting this cool event.
The other man introduced himself as Ross and apologized for the other man, who was named Rian. Ross was already seated in the car, and he had yet to say a word.
â Whatâs your name? Were you also summoned? How do you know-âÂ
Lindy turns to the new kid, whose name is evidently Leo and gives him a cold, discerning look; Lindy doesnât usually remember faces but this one stands out slightly: itâs from a different era, one you would expect to see smiling from a photograph of a group of World War Two flying aces. To his credit, Leo takes the hint almost immediately and wordlessly starts walking next to Lindy in search of the airship. Besides, a conversation isnât really needed for either of them as a timekiller; the ship is magnificent, not in its grandeur, but in its artifice, with glinting grates weaving through walls, endless ventilation tunnels snaking through the air, and long corridors that stretched before them like metal mouthways in the skull of the sky. After a few minutes of undiluted admiration, Lindy gets snapped out of his reverie by the searing ache of the heavy chains still lacing his limbs. Leo notices the slight grimace and without a word untwists a nameless antenna from the wall and ungracefully shoves it into one of the locks on Lindyâs arms. Lindy, still in his own world, reflexively sends Leo careening into a side wall.Â
âWhat the hell man! I was just trying to pick the lock on your chainsâÂ
âOh.âÂ
Lindy doesnât apologize, but helps up Leo from the floor and wordlessly stretches out his arm for Leo to have easier access to the lock. After some grudging twists, Lindyâs chains slip off easily, and Leo quickly unlocks his as well, prying off some of the sections and tucking them into his pocket for later use. They fall back into formation, the echoes of their off time footsteps the only sound imaginable.Â
Leo can feel his loneliness start to pool up inside of him, like the voices of violins drowning out the other members of the orchestra, swallowing him up in this mouth of metal with not even the aggravated healers or Warren to pass the time with, just a stranger who obviously isnât going to be a fast friend. At least this stranger (Lindy, was that his name?), seemed to know where they were going. His pace was sure and steady, so he either was experienced with airships or was just daydreaming and had no idea what was going on. Leo hoped for his and Warrenâs sake that it was the former.Â
âWho is Warren?âÂ
For a second, Leo wonders whether Lindy can read his mind or whatever else happens on this godforsaken summoning place. But after his wits start to return, heâs more surprised that Lindyâs even said anything at all, considering theyâve spent the last few hours in complete silence.
âWhy do you want to know?â, Leo said, his voice slightly arched and aggressive.Â
Lindy didnât actually know why he had said anything- the question had been on his mind ever since that random woman fought off the Chikaras and shoved them in here together, but he had never anticipated actually saying anything. Maybe it was just that this Leo guy just kept looking sadder and sadder, flying ace face creasing and folding at the edges, and Lindy tried to help him do what most people did: talk about something else until their problems went away.Â
Silence.Â
Leo sighed; he might as well talk to this Lindy person, there isnât anything else to do here except search for a ship that the stranger obviously knows the location of better than him.Â
âThey were one of the first normal people I met when I got summoned to this place. Got to know them pretty well. We were separated a little while ago though.âÂ
âOh.âÂ
Leo rolls his eyes; that was half the words this guy used. They walked on in silence for about 15 more minutes when Lindy came to a stop. Leo stares at him curiously as he starts to tap his finger against a sheet of metal on the wall.Â
âThis shouldnât be here.âÂ
âWell it obviously is there, so I donât know what to tell you buddy.âÂ
Lindy just stares at Leo for one beat with those watery blue eyes, and itâs as good as any death glare; the hair on Leoâs neck stiffens stock straight for a second.Â
âWhat I mean is that there should be an entrance here, to the shipâs hangers, thatâs how it is on most airships, but it seems that theyâve blocked this one up.âÂ
â We just have to take it down then. Itâs just flimsy sheet metal.â
Leo kicks the metal covering with his foot and immediately regrets it; all of the force he used immediately rebounds on him, pain radiates through his bones like an alarm blaring, and he falls back on the floor for the second time. Lindy looks down at him, no expression betrayed on his face.Â
âOwww!âÂ
âItâs not sheet metal. Itâs probably either titanium reinforced Kevlar, or some otherworld material. You can tell from the lack of sheen that itâs durable.âÂ
âWhy didnât you tell me that before I kicked it!âÂ
âYou didnât ask.âÂ
Eyes watering, Leo takes the hand that Lindy offers with more than a hint of irritation. Like seriously, he couldnât have given him some warning? Only a couple of hours and he already needed a healer again. Lindy, paying him no mind, is surveying their surroundings for potential entrances. This was the most economical and safe place to put the other ships onboard, so why wouldnât the gateway be here too? Just when he thought he was stumped, Lindy glanced upwards and saw what he needed. On one of the larger ventilation shafts, there was a panel with two loose screws and a smudged handprint of machine oil. Â
âGive me a leg up,â Lindy says nodding to the panel. Leo follows his gaze and understands immediately. He boosts Lindy up on his shoulders. Besides the painful protesting of his ankles, itâs not too bad; he had thought that Lindy would be pretty muscular because of how hard Leo had gotten slammed into the wall earlier, but the kid actually seemed to be pretty lightweight. After a bit of twisting and tinkering, Leo hears a creak from up above, the weight on his shoulders vanish, and Lindyâs hand extends from up above to help him up.Â
âAre you sure thatâs stable?â , Leo calls, but heâs already taking Lindyâs hand so heâll find out one way or another. Lindy doesnât respond, apparently focusing his energy on pulling Leo up and trying to deduce which direction will take them to the right place. After he gets hauled up, Leo cranes his neck around the cramped ventilation shaft, in which both boys are crouching down as low as they can. By the soft indentation in the metal, grooves caused by the unmistakable impressments of knees and hands and occasional banged heads, he can tell that this is certainly more than your run of the mill ventilation tunnel.Â
âThis way,â Lindy says motioning to the left of their loose panel. Leo falls back behind him and the two crawl down the seemingly endless shaft, that only occasionally quivers like it canât hold their weight. Leo yawns in spite of himself; he never thought that getting summoned to another universe would be as boring as this. Almost as in response to his thoughts however, both boys hear a huge banging from the other side of the tunnel. They both freeze instantly.Â
âWhat does that mean?â whispers Leo.Â
After a beat of silence, the banging starts to get closer. Lindy turns pale.Â
Here we go, week 4 @dissidia-writeblr ! I had a good time with this one (though I feel like I say that about all of them lol)
###
âWere you summoned here too?â
Warren looked up at the strained voice coming from the cell beside them. It was faint, but there was no way theyâd imagined it.
The voice spoke again. âMy name is Nyr.â
Nyr? They swallowed and uncurled their limbs enough to shuffle to the front of the cell. Even here they couldnât see around to the one beside theirs, but hopefully theyâd hear a little better here. If whoever this was came here from some other world too they already had something in common.
They cleared their throat and took a calming breath. âYeah, I, I think Iâve been summoned too.â It still felt weird to think about it, to accept that it was real. âIâm Warren.â
There was a pause, and Warren settled in with their back against the bars of the cell.
âIâve been here for a few months.â The prisoner in the other cell finally continued, tired and drawn out. âThe Chikara are somehow able to keep us from returning home. Iâve been looking for ways to escape, though, and Iâll help you if I figure something out.â
Months? That long? Warren bit at the side of their lip and tucked their legs up closer to their body. Were they going to be here that long too? But sheâd offered to help them, that had to count for something.
âThank you, Nyr.â They almost told them about the soldiers and the note in their pocket but held their tongue. Just in case. Who knew who might have been listening. âWhatâs it like here?â If they were going to be there for a while a little insight wouldnât hurt. âDo you know what theyâre going to do with us?â
Nyr didnât have to think long. âThey havenât really told me much. Probably about as much as you know. Sounds like they want to give us some kind of magic.â Sounded about right. âBut theyâre taking their time doing it. Iâve been here for a few month and they havenât done anything.â She paused, a sound like a soft sigh coming from her cell. âHonestly, itâs pretty boring most of the time.â
They half-grinned, mouth curling despite the dread still sitting in their stomach. âI can imagine. Have they given you anything to do or is this it?â
âNo, they donât even have the decency to question me or Kai, the person in the cell to the other side of me.â Flippant sarcasm flowed from her voice. âI guess that keeps up the air of mystery they seem to enjoy so much.â
Between the hyper-formality, the cryptic sentences, the better-than-you attitude⌠âThey do seem a little full of themselves.â Warren laughed, some of the nerves easing just a little. She must have been here a long time to speak so frivolously about their captors. âIf youâre hard-up for entertainment I can try and remember a story or two, pass the time.â It was the least they could do.
âIâd love to hear one, if youâd like!â Nyr sounded like sheâd perked up, and Warren could almost picture her sitting taller. âEspecially if itâs about your world.â
About home⌠Warren shifted, getting as comfortable as they could against the bars of the cell. What would sound the most interesting? Though⌠If Nyr really had been here this long the bar probably wasnât too high.
They took a deep breath and started the first stories they could remember, ones Voltâs dad used to tell around the campfire when theyâd tagged along on summer trips. They seemed realistic enough that maybe once upon a time they were based on something that really happened but over the years morphed into something more fantasy than fact. Nyr listened intently, peppering reactions through each story.
When theyâd gone through all they could remember, they shifted to more real life tales. Stories of things theyâd done, things Volt did and told them about afterwards⌠Nothing special but enough that Nyr still seemed interested in each one filling the quiet.
The door slammed open in the middle of a sentence and Warren jumped, scrambling to their feet and pressing themself against the far wall. Their heart leapt and their legs started to shake. Had they come back for them so soon? Now?
But it wasnât Tidis that stepped into view. Two soldiers wearing the same uniforms as the oneâs whoâd slipped the notes. A black-haired man and a blonde woman. The man came straight for Warrenâs cell, opening it up and reaching straight for the chains around their wrists. They held still, watching as he undid the lock and let them fall to the ground. They clattered, and while Warren winced at the sound it was clear neither of the soldiers were concerned with being overheard. Hopefully that meant Tidis and the others were occupied elsewhere.
He gestured for them to follow them out, waiting in the hall. âMy name is Wayne and this is Tess, and weâll help you escape. Weâve dealt with the Chikara before, and we know how they think. Please, trust us.â
Warren nodded. Even if they had some kind of hidden agenda, could it really be worse than being forced to bear some magic curse for eternity?
The woman, Tess, finished freeing two other prisoners from the last two cells. The one who had to be Nyr stepped out from the cell beside theirs with a cautious, evaluating stare before checking up on the other. That must have been Kai, the one sheâd mentioned earlier.
Wayne paused his searching through the other empty cells and frowned. âWhere is the other person they brought here?â
Leo. Shit, was he okay? âThey separated us when we landed. I donât know where they took him but he was here.â It had been hours now though, what if theyâd brought him somewhere else? Warren swallowed. What if theyâd hurt him?
Tess nodded. âIâll find him.â She glanced at Wayne. âYou know everything now too. Iâll either bring him to you, or Iâll send him. Donât wait for me if I canât make it.â
With Wayneâs nod Tess was gone, disappearing though the door and into the hall. He turned to the others. âLetâs get out of here.â
That sounded more than good enough. Wayne led the way and Warren followed along with Nyr and Tess and blanketed in tense quiet. He seemed to know where he was going, and every time Warren glanced back over their shoulder no one saw them, no one came to stop them. So far so good.
But⌠They let their eyes drop, watching Wayneâs heels meet the floor with every step. Would Tess be able to find Leo? Was he okay? What if the Chikara hurt him, and thatâs why they hadnât brought him to be kept with the others? The last thing they wanted was something bad to happen to Leo, but at the same time, what could they do? They didnât know where they were, what was going on, where he might be kept⌠Hopefully Tess pulled through.
As Setza and Richter lead Cinder and Aura further into the world, Cinder finally gets a chance to ask the older woman all the questions she had been keeping in. âThis isnât boring at all!â She assures their new companions. âI want to know everything about this place. You have magic here? How does it work? Does everyone have it or only a few?â The conversation kept them both busy throughout the walk. Cinder looked at their surroundings only enough to marvel at the new landscape, but she had no fear for her safety, not with Aura a silent shadow at her side, one hand always in reach of a weapon.
After some time, Cinder senses Aura tense at her side. She breaks off in the middle of a sentence, looking to her friend for cues. Aura nods subtly towards the mountain. Cinder glances that way and sees a man, tiny by relative distance, approaching quickly. Setza and Richter are calm, so Cinder remains relaxed but alert as he meets them.
He speaks to Setza briefly, casting a wary eye toward Aura and Cinder before nodding and motioning them to follow. They make it to the cave where the man leads them, his fellows awaiting them. Cinder feels Aura stiffen as they walk past the guards. She eases closer to Aura, reaching out under the cover of their movements to wrap a hand around Auraâs wrist, thumb soothing over her pulse point until she feels the other woman relax.
The man who lead them is talking to Setza and Richter now, gesturing between the glowing specter and the girl Cinder can see curled on the cave floor. Cinder catches the word âmagicâ and listens closely, surprised by what the three intend to try.
Cinder is focused on the process as the girl and being begin to thrash and wail, their friends holding them down as the magic transfer proceeded. She doesnât notice anything amiss until Aura has already drawn her weapon in response to the sounds now echoing from the mouth of the cave.
The man who they had met looks up at them. âWould you be willing to help?â
Cinder looks at Aura. Sheâs clearly unhappy, and Cinder remembers her telling Setza they werenât here to get involved in another war. Still, there was a difference between fighting a war and fighting to help people, many of whom were currently helpless, to survive.
âYes.â Cinder answered, drawing her own weapon. âWhere do you need us?â

@maple-writes: After Tidis leaves the area, a person in the cell to the right of Warren speaks up. She sounds pained. âWere you summoned here too? My name is Nyr.â She pauses for Warren to respond. âIâve been here for a few months. The Chikara are somehow able to keep us from returning home. Iâve been looking for ways to escape, though, and Iâll help you if I figure something out.â Nyr and Warren can talk more as the hours pass.
About five hours later, or so, the door to this room slams open, and a man with short, black hair and light blue eyes runs in with a woman with short, blond hair and dark green eyes right behind him. Theyâre both wearing soldiersâ uniforms, but when the man opens Warrenâs cell door, he unlocks the chains and gestures for Warren to get up. As his partner is opening the other cell doors, he glances at Warren. âMy name is Wayne and this is Tess, and weâll help you escape. Weâve dealt with the Chikara before, and we know how they think. Please, trust us.â Behind him, Tess lets a woman with jaw length, wavy teal hair and dark purple eyes and a woman with dark brown hair pulled up in a ponytail and light brown eyes out. He frowns when he looks through the other cells. âWhere is the other person they brought up here?â
When they learn that Warren and Leo were separated, Tess nods. âIâll find him.â She glances at Wayne. âYou know everything now too. Iâll either bring him to you, or Iâll send him. Donât wait for me if I canât make it.â He nods, and she runs off.
He turns to the others. âLetâs get out of here.â Will Warren trust them?Â
@onmywaytobe: Zeph does heal Leo, but afterwards, she takes out some black chains. She tries to make her smile look reassuring. âThese wonât hurt at all. Theyâre just a precaution to nullify any magic or advanced tech you might have. Thank you for your cooperation.â
If Leo doesnât fight back, she puts the chains on him and leads him to a different room with cells in it. She puts him in a cell and leaves with no explanation. After about five hours, the door to the room slams open, and a woman runs in and finds Leo. She has short, blond hair and dark green eyes, and sheâs wearing a soldierâs uniform. She unlocks Leoâs cell door and walks in. âMy name is Tess, and Iâm here to help you escape.â She unlocks his chains. âDo you trust me?â
The door to the room opens again, and two Chikara walk in with Lindy already wearing the black chains being led in. Tess curses under her breath, and golden light starts dancing along her skin like fire. Sheâs able to surprise the Chikara enough to get Lindy away from them and take his chains off. The Chikara are still coming, and Tidis decides at that moment to also show up.
He smirks when his eyes land on Tess. âAnd one of the rebels returns. Today is my lucky day.â Light and darkness dance along his skin like fire.Â
Tess curses again and backs them up to the door on the other side of the room. âFind Wayne. Heâs rescued Warren. He should be going to the hangar where they keep their ships,â she hisses under her breath to them. She pushes Leo and Lindy through the door, and locks it from the inside. What does Leo do?
@kiljoytrout: Lindy is kept under constant watch and forced to stay still until they arrive on one of the moons. The lead woman with wings puts black chains on Lindy with no explanation and takes him inside to a room with cells. As theyâre about to put Lindy in a cell, a woman with short, blond hair and dark green eyes attacks the winged people with Lindy and gets him away from them. She unlocks his chains just as another winged person shows up and smirks when he sees her.Â
âAnd one of the rebels returns. Today is my lucky day.â Light and darkness dance along his skin like fire.
The woman curses and backs them up to the door on the other side of the room. âFind Wayne. Heâs rescued Warren. He should be going to the hangar where they keep their ships,â she hisses under her breath to them. She pushes Leo and Lindy through the door, and locks it from the inside. What does Lindy do?
@alannaofroses: Setza smiles over at Aura and Cinder as they walk to their next destination. âWeâre headed to meet with a group of people who are rumored to know more about the magic of this world. They might also be able to help. I hope this isnât too boring for you.â What do they talk about as they walk?
After a few hours, near the base of one of the mountains, a man approaches them from the direction theyâre heading to. He has very short, blond hair and light blue eyes. He crosses his arms. âThere are more than I thought would meet with us.â
Setza nods and gestures back at Aura and Cinder. âThey were both summoned here. They are not working for the Chikara.â
He doesnât look fully convinced, but he nods. âPlease, follow me.â He leads them to a sheltered cave, where two other people are standing guard. One is a woman with wavy, ginger hair and dark brown eyes, and the other is a woman with short, ginger hair and dark green eyes. He nods at them, and they let the group in.Â
Inside, a girl, who looks to be a young teenager at most is curled up under some blankets, muttering in her sleep. The man who met them kneels down next to her. âWe are an...anomaly. We have magic. Our bodies can carry it well. You wanted to ask how to change that one back.â He gestures at the darkness being. âI donât know, but there is a possibility. Her magic was taken away from her, and she became deathly ill a few weeks afterwards. Her body might be able to take the magic from your friend."
Setza glances at Richter and shrugs. "Fine. It's as good an idea as any." The being has already been walking over to the girl, and the girl unconsciously reaches out to the being. When their fingers touch, the girl screams and thrashes, and the being thrashes too. Two people have to hold each of them down, but the being's glow is lessening slowly.
While the process is going on, there is a sound outside, and the man who met them tenses and looks over at Aura and Cinder (everyone else is occupied). "Would you be willing to help?"
@perringwrites: Sitara turns on the motorcycle after Setza, Richter, Aura, and Cinder left, and a sidecar pops out. She pushes a button, and the sidecar expands so Oliver and Angel can fit as well. The man with the long hair gets in the sidecar first without a word.
The man with blond hair shrugs and holds out his hand to Oliver. "My name is Ross and the unsociable one is named Rian. Sorry. He's just a jerk to everyone."
Sitara grins. "And I'm Sitara and this is Zeth!" She points to the other woman, who grunts and nods. Zeth sits behind Sitara on the actual motorcycle, and Ross pets Angel before he sits next to Rian and tries to joke with him. He leaves plenty of room for Angel and Oliver.
Sitara revs the engine and speeds off once everyone is settled. It's a smooth ride, even over rocky terrain. When they approach the water, Sitara doesn't slow down. The motorcycle adapts to the water and rides right over it. She grins over at Oliver. "I made it myself! If you want to check it out later, you can!"
They arrive at another continent, with rolling fields. They stop a ways away from a large city surrounded by farmland. Sitara hops off and grins at the city. She points at it and glances at Oliver. "That is the city we're supposed to infiltrate." She pulls out different devices from a pack Zeth hands her. "I have some things to make us invisible and also to silence us. Now, those two won't be any help." She pointed at Rian and Ross. "They'll probably head off on their own because Rian's really interested in learning more about the magic in this world. So, it will be just us three." She grins. "Are you ready?"

While Aura talks about her braces with Sitara, Cinder reads the new people. In the end, they decide to keep going with Setza and Richter. They part ways with Oliver and head off with them.
Lindy should have known it wouldnât be that easy, but before Hellâs Angel over here showed up, he really did think that in a few hours flight time, heâd be back home. Well, what most people would consider a home at least; the only place where Lindy stopped tensing his shoulders and rationing every word like it cost gold was up in the air.Â
âGet in here stowaway,â the leader said and snapped her fingers. Before he could so much as look at the controls, two carbon copy angels grabbed his arms and hauled him across the walkway with the delicacy of a speeding bus.Â
âWait.â
The leader crooked her finger ever so slightly to the angels holding him and their tight grips on his arms disappeared entirely. Lindy stepped out of their hold and looked hesitant at the leader, Hellâs Angel or whatever their name was. The purple haired pirate was sinister but they were on another level entirely. Burnt black and icy white wings, cutting eyes, and thin smile all combined to make a being otherworldly beautiful and devastating; he couldnât even guess their gender, it was all just ice and flame.Â
â What were you intending to do with my comradeâs ship?â they asked, voice as sleek as a knife on snow.Â
Lindy looked past her onto the airship, making no attempt to respond. People, or mythical beings for that matter simply didnât interest him. Now this new airship on the other hand, twice the size of the one he was on previously, well that-Â
âAre you going to answer me?âÂ
Still ignoring them, Lindyâs eyes darted from the dirigible casing to the underside of the wheel drops and the curious inscription âMaravila Moriâ emblazoned throughout. But unlike the purple haired pirate, this new leader didnât tolerate his unresponsiveness.Â
In one swift move she grabbed Lindy by the back of his shirt and tipped him over the edge of the walkway connecting the two airships, body completely suspended in the sky. If Lindy had been listening he would have heard the gasp of surprise from the purple haired pirate, the chuckling of the other angels, and the satisfied hiss of the Leader, but as it was he was occupied.Â
Lindy hated heights, strange for a flying ace, but that was the truth of it. He couldnât stand the feeling of looking down to find the world waiting so far below that any mistake was an invitation to Deathâs dinner party, where you were the main order. So everytime he flew, he went higher than ever, never looking down, and learned through trial and error how to make a descent while closing his eyes. But now staring straight at the ground thousands of feet below him, so high up that even closing his eyes was too large of an opposition against gravity, he realized exactly how fleeting his life was, the inexplicable beauty of the sublime, how being at the edge of fear would instill in him an amazing, virtuous, life changing- Thatâs a lie. What he actually realized hanging off the ledge by the back of his shirt was absolutely nothing: a side effect of thinking youâre about to die.
âNow letâs try this again. What were you intending to do with my comradeâs airship?âÂ
Lindy could barely get enough air in his lungs to breathe but somehow manage to sputter,Â
âI was just trying to get home. I donât even know who you people are!âÂ
âHow cute. You think weâre peopleâ, the leader said. He could hear the smirk in her voice, as obvious as the iron grip on his shirt.Â
Just as he could feel the cheap fabric start to give way to the persistence of gravity, he was yanked back onto the walkway.Â
âDo as you told or youâre getting dropped,â said the leader coldly as Lindy gasped for breath. Back in the grip of the other angels, he was dragged into their airship. As he craned his neck for mobility he could see the purple haired pirate still standing on the walkway with the tracings of regret on her face.Â
âShould have just stayed with me kid,â she sighed before Lindy was plunged below deck, and the freezing cold took his breath away.
so i got way too excited and this is way too long and i even made myself a little sad there at the end so i guess that's how you know it's good??
thank you as ever to @dissidia-writeblr for running this event and thank you @maple-writes for collabing with me I will miss you!!
Tidis grins at their agreement. Leo tries not to think too much about what that might mean for him, hoping for the best outcome. Tidis turns and leads Warren and Leo back out of the room, through the winding hallways of the building. Leo keeps track of what turns they make just in case he needs to make a run for it. Itâs absentminded, practical, noting every exit. It starts to get tricky with so many doors, and none of them clearly marked. This place is full of fire hazards, Leo notes.
Warren glances at Leo before asking him a question. âFeel free to ignore me if you want,â they say hesitantly. âBut is there something youâre hoping they can help you with?â
Theyâre a perceptive one. Leo freezes for a second, stumbling while he considers his response. âIâve been sick my whole life,â he finally admits. âI want to know what it would be like if I wasnât.â
âReally? Thatâs tough,â Warren replies. Leo lets out a sigh at the familiar sympathy. Thankfully, Warren is preoccupied by other aspects of their situation. Or maybe theyâre too kind to press Leo on something he clearly doesnât want to talk about. âI hope this works, then.â
âYeah. Me too.â Leo starts to notice that no one is looking at them as they pass. Tidis and his wings are pretty intimidating, but the way these people are avoiding his gaze feels less like respect and more like fear. Nerves tighten in Leoâs stomach as he reassesses the situation. Everything is not as it seemed.
Tidis continues to ignore the two of them as he leads them through the halls, giving no indication that he cares about their conversation. Leo doesnât want to make it too obvious that heâs staring at Tidisâs feathery back, so he asks Warren, âWhy are you going with this guy? Are you sick too?â
It was an offhand comment, but Warrenâs response surprises Leo. âNot really,â they begin. âBut I donât like the idea of wandering alone until whenever it is we end up going home.â
âFair enough.â Leo hadnât considered that. He was so used to being alone that he thought of that as the default. It makes him want to protect Warren if he can. At the very least, he wants to stick together.
The small-talk ends when they make it to a hangar with something that looks to be a spaceship in it. Leo swears under his breath. He was not expecting to go to space today.
Tidis gestures for them to go onto the ship, but as they do, two soldiers walk past, bumping into them. Leo knows a lift when he feels one, and his fingers immediately go to his pocket, where he traces the corner of a piece of paper. He glances at Warren, who doesnât seem to have noticed.
As soon as he has the opportunity, Leo whispers to Warren, âDid you feel that?â
âFeel what?â Their voice is too loud. Tidis has walked away, presumably to make sure everything is in order with the ship, but he might still be in earshot. He has wings, whoâs to say super-hearing was off the table?
Leo glances around pointedly before dropping his voice even lower. âThose guys just put something in my pocket.â Warrenâs eyes go wide and they reach into their pocket. Leo pulls out his note as well, and they find that the papers are identical, reading: We will help you out when we can.
âThis doesnât seem good,â Warren says.
Leo doesnât get the chance to respond as Tidis returns. âWhat are you waiting for? Letâs go,â he says, ushering them up the ramp onto the ship.
Flying was a lot more comfortable than Leo was expecting, though the inside of the ship looked about how he thought it might. It reminded him of that old movie, Space Odyssey or whatever. Carter claimed it was a hallmark of cinema, but he didnât see all the fuss. He maintains that it could have been at least an hour shorter and it would have been better. At least there didnât seem to be any evil robot computers aboard this ship.
Leoâs mind is still spinning about the note when Tidis walks up to them with a smile. He points towards the biggest moon in the sky. There are several, something Leo had missed before. âThis is the moon we live on. Itâs named Tallis. We study the magic up here. Weâre the only ones who have gotten the magic of this world. At least from what we know.â Honestly, Leo didnât care much about the magic beyond its healing capabilities. But now he cares less about the note in his pocket promising help. Those guys are on a different planet now. Besides, how much help could they be? Tidis is already offering everything Leo wants.
He looks over at them with a smile. âWeâll be separating you to ask questions. I hope you donât mind.â Leo resists the urge to glance at Warren, but they seem afraid of Tidis. Neither one of them speaks up. So much for sticking together.
The spaceship lands on Tallis, and Tidis immediately takes Warren to one room while a woman with his same angel wings takes Leo to another room. Leo squares his shoulders and tries to ignore the sudden sadness welling within him. He feels like heâll never see Warren again.
He convinces himself that itâs silly to have such strong feelings about someone he just met, but Warren was the friendliest face heâs encountered so far. Thereâs something disingenuous behind the eyes of everyone here. Tidis with his polite smiles, Sichoris with his endless explanations. Theyâre hiding something, Leoâs sure of it. And if theyâre dangerous⌠He swallows, realizing that Warren would be in danger because of him. They only got on this ship because they didnât want to be alone. And now they are, and itâs Leoâs fault.
He pushes the worry from his mind when the woman with the angel wings tells him to sit down. She sits down beside him, offering a smile that doesnât touch her eyes, just like Tidis. âMy name is Zeph. Would you like me to heal you?â
âWhatâs the catch?â Leo says, keeping his voice as even as possible. Heâs kicking himself for not asking any sooner, before he agreed to come here. Because of course thereâs a catch. Itâs too good to be true.
Yet Zeph shakes her head, looking at him like he is young and foolish. âThere is no catch. You have been summoned to this world for a purpose. Perhaps it was to meet the Chikara and be healed.â
Her eyes are mesmerizing. Leoâs heart pounds as he searches her face for any hint of a lie. Soon his resolve crumbles, and he looks down to her outstretched hand, unable to maintain eye contact. âOkay. I want you to heal me.â
âThis wonât hurt a bit.â He can hear the smile in her voice, the tight smile that doesnât reach her hypnotic eyes. But how can he refuse, when this is the one thing heâs wanted for his entire life?
Leoâs eyes close as Zeph places her hand on his chest. He tries to focus on his breathing like he would whenever he was in the hospital. In and out.
He reminds himself that thereâs no harm in agreeing to something in a dream. You canât die in dreams. Even dreams that feel more real by the second.
In, out. In, out.
Zephâs hand grows warmer on his chest. Leo grits his teeth, staying as still as possible. Itâs starting to feel uncomfortable, but heâd really been hoping for too much when he believed it would be painless.
Carter flashes into his mind. If heâs healthy, he can have a normal life. He can finally be with her fully, give her everything she deserves, when his days are no longer numbered.
In, out. In, out. Inâ
Leo gasps as pain shoots through his chest, his breath cutting off. There is a flash of bright light, and then nothing.
