“Oh my god you’re a writer? Can I read your stuff?”
Big thank you to all the creators out there ❤️
How do fanfic writers feel knowing that people might have been masturbating to their work?
do you think we write hardcore erotica by accident
reblog if you love archive of our own and how they firmly refuse to let censorship have any place on their platform
at a conference I attended recently, a researcher pointed to the difficulty of finding material in archives because so much depends on the metadata and the terminology used to describe things changes over time. "it would be so helpful," the researcher said, "if I typed 'lesbian' into the library of congress database, it would also show me results that were categorised in the 50s, when the materials were interpreted as 'intimate female friendships'"
which is what tag wrangles at Archive Of Our Own do incredibly effectively: searching for "omegaverse" also leads to "alpha/beta/omega dynamics" and "alternate universe: a/b/o" and so on. but ao3 achieves this frankly incredible categorisation and indexing system by the power of countless volunteers putting in hours and hours of unpaid and unthanked free time, and it's completely understandable that most archives do not have that kind of infrastructure, but also how incredible that a fan-run website has better searchability, classification, and accessibility than the library of congress
i do have to say that no matter how shitty any sort of media is or how shitty your own creations are. always remember
writing isn’t hard. i just have to extract 80,000 words from my brain using sheer psychic force
#dirty minds worldwide
nothing pisses me off more than when i see a fic on ao3 talking about reach. "this ship isn't here but i added them for reach" "this fandom tag isn't necessary but i'm adding it for reach" "reposting for reach" STOP IT!!!! this is not tiktok this is not twitter this is an ARCHIVE this is not how it works!!!
i will not deal!!!! that is not how any of this works!!!!
if you see people doing this shit, report it. its against the terms of service.
genuinely. copy the link to the fic or series, and then scroll down to the bottom of the page:
click on policy questions & abuse reports which takes you to this page:
if you scroll down, youll be able to report the fic right there but you can also check for yourself that its against ToS
all you need to do is explain that theyre deliberately mistagging things which is just not a thing on ao3 because its an archive.
by posting your fic there, ao3, has the right to manually recategorise tags. its in the ToS:
you cant deliberately mistag stuff on ao3; it is an archive. you cant tag for reach, and this is likely gonna get pat tag wranglers because they deal mostly with form not content of tags and if theyre tagging for reach, its gonna be the more popular tags.
so report the fuck out of them for it. most likely, their fic will just have tags adjusted and their account will be fine.
and if they keep doing it and get suspended for it, its their own damn fault.
also thats not even getting into the fact that mistagging fics is kinda antithetical to their goal of reaching more people because youre not reaching the people who want to read your fic?
Go read an old fic.
There's such recency bias in fandom. As an author you post something, get a few reactions, and then it goes off into the bin. As a reader you check the tags, see what's new, and move on. But a lot of old stuff is really good. It's just sitting there, gathering dust, waiting for someone to take a peek.
So go on. Treat yourself.
Read an old fic.
not writing, not not writing, but a secret third thing
letting my stories spin around my head like a microwave
Im just so frustrated bc it doesnt seem fair that your skills can degrade over time. i LEARNED IT😭
Maybe if he was a little less fuckable we wouldn’t be in this mess
If AO3 had a slogan
i will stop rpfing when they stop wanting to fuck eachother
writing is so fun
writing is impossible why does anyone do this
It's frustrating that you can come up with the plot of an entire fic in just a few seconds, but writing it all down can take anywhere from never to forever.
Oh hello there, fic idea that I’m gonna fantasize about for days/weeks on end but not write. Nice of you to drop by
sir that’s my emotional support premise
