On Hartwin and Harry Hart
In light of… recent events, I figured it was time I did this as lately I’ve been seeing far too much hate. In this post, I am going to address some of the issues I’ve seen going around.
1. Please stop calling the ship pedophiliac. Eggsy unwin is 22-23 and the actor is 25. Harry hart is 50-55. Yes, we all agree it is a big age gap which can be considered problematic, but it’s not exactly uncommon in the real world. It’s a ship that portrays two consenting adults. Get over it. If you don’t like it that is TOTALLY FINE just don’t call it pedophiliac.
2. I’ve seen a lot of people say that Harry left Eggsy in an abusive home and thus is an asshole. I’d like you to consider the following:
Harry came to see them right after Lee’s death and Michelle refused his help. Harry respected that decision and left behind a medal in case she ever changed her mind. We have NO EVIDENCE that the man kept up with the family. Harry is an agent, yes, but that doesn’t mean he pried into Eggsy’s life. It is true that when Harry gets Eggsy out of the police station, he tells him a lot of random facts that he knows of Eggsy, but there are two important factors here; 1. Harry could have literally checked those in between getting the call and going to the police station. It doesn’t actually take that long to read someone’s file, and this explanation actually makes sense considering the fact that Eggsy tells him “it wasn’t like that” and proceeds to explain why he did what he did. Harry had no idea Michelle had forced him to quit - something a spy of harry’s caliber SHOULD know IF he would have kept tabs on the family. Does it make him a bad person not to keep up with them after Lee’s death? No, it doesn’t. Most people would have done the same. It makes him human.
We also see that Harry is checking Eggsy’s file and Dean’s file IN DETAIL AFTER the bar scene, which again tells me the man is just finding out. And what did he do once he found out? He got Eggsy out of there.
3. People keep calling Harry a classist prick, and yet THE MOVIE CONTRADICTS THIS STATEMENT FROM THE VERY FIRST MOMENT. Harry is characterized as a man that goes AGAINST SOCIAL NORMS. He thinks Arthur is a snob, and keeps telling him that he needs to get his head out of his arse. He has been trying to get a working class man to become part of kingsman since the 80s. He believe ANYONE can be a gentleman regardless of class. He believes most “aristocrats” as he calls them are a bunch of snobs and that they are doomed to fail (he literally tells this to Arthur). He believes ACTIONS make a person, not class. Yes, he may come from wealth but that doesn’t mean he’s a classist asshole. Literally just LISTEN to the dialogue.
4. Many people also keep mentioning the fact that harry did all of it for Lee and not Eggsy. While that was true at the beginning, it is CLEARLY not true by the end of the movie. Harry is proud of Eggsy’s accomplishments and is literally frustrated that he couldn’t get Eggsy to become a kingsman. There are two things you have to remember when Harry says this line. 1 WHY he says it and 2 their given circumstances. He says it after Eggsy accuses him of not caring about his father. He is horrified that Harry stuffed the dog and thinks he cared just as little for Lee. He is trying to prove to Eggsy that he did actually care, that doesn’t negate the fact that he cares about Eggsy.
Now as for given circumstances: Harry is angry, frustrated, and they are IN THE MIDDLE OF A FIGHT. If you’ve never said something without thinking, (something hurtful or just plain dumb) then you literally have never fought with someone you care about. THIS IS WHAT ALL HUMAN BEINGS DO. So please stop making it into such a big deal. It’s not like Eggsy didn’t say a shiton of hurtful stuff. It’s what people DO when they fight. The thing is he never got to apologize, but that does not mean he doesn’t care. In fact, him being that angry proves that he cares.
Lastly, if you don’t like a ship, that is FINE, just STOP posting hate when you know it’ll appear either in the tag or the mobile tag because some of us come home after grueling days and just want to check the tag to make us happy, not to have to read shitty posts.
