my ultimate fantasy is having a brain that lets me enjoy being alive
Dear readers,
(And I am looking mostly at you, Hozier fandom.) I am very happy to see so many of you pop up here lately after the release of UU. After all this time of sitting here unvisited, my fics finally receive some attention and — as little as I can tell — some love too.
Still it breaks my heart as a writer to see so many of you binging my stories without ever even considering to reblog or leave a comment.
So, just in case you did not know: I am a hobby writer. Meaning I was not paid for anything you find on here, neither do I receive any form of feedback unless you leave it in the comments for me.
Also, as lovely as it is to see all these red hearts, they do nothing at all in terms of helping me spread my work. Unfortunately, this platform does not work like the others you may frequent. Reblogs are the only way we have on here to bring content to other people’s dashes. And the only way to bring a smile to a writer’s face that helps us pull through the times we consider leaving tumblr because we feel like nobody gives a f*ck about our work anyway.
So, please, (for the love of Andrew,) show a little kindness and bring some warmth to this writer’s heart. Otherwise I am not sure I can handle the constant silence and what it does to my confidence in my writing abilities any longer.
🖤

Viking traveler’s amulet, based on the Lillbjärs picture stone. The back reads: “Unharmed Go Forth, Unharmed Return, Unharmed Back Home”, Frigga’s blessing to Odin, possibly from Vafþrúðnismál.
How does this have almost 10,000 notes ?
Because the world is full of trouble and every little bit of help counts.
Once upon a time, I read a quote from a fellow witch that I will never forget. It reads: “witchcraft is not docile. Witchcraft is what I turned to when every other avenue failed me. It was a last grasp, the feral response to my own undoing” (— via, The Traveling Witch). And, whilst to some this may seem like a far-fetched idea summed up in a melodramatic sentence, you may find that many of those who turn to witchcraft did so out of varying levels of necessity.
I was and am one of those witches; those feral, wild women who turned to powers higher than themselves and beyond the realm of understanding of many because I had nowhere else to go. I sought solace in magic, and I found it in the witchcraft I have been practising for a decade.
As you delve into the world of magic and witchcraft, you will see practitioners from every walk of life. You will see healers, and you will see those who do not shy away from baneful magic. You will see those with bloodied lips and bruised knuckles, whose magic is gritty and dirty and born of pain, and you will see those who preach love and light — those whose magic is gentle and born of happiness and laughter. Each of these paths are valid, as are all those inbetween, but none are docile, or without hard work and self-sacrifice. To be a witch is to be someone who gives themselves to their magic and in return, someone who is empowered by their choice to do so. Claiming your magic, is to claim your power in every sense — physically, spiritually, emotionally, and intellectually.

Historical Witchcraft 101: Witch Ladders
Okay so I’ve seen a fair amount of misinformation about witch ladders floating around and it’s time to set things straight!
[Image description: a long piece of rope, looped at one end, with many feathers woven into it] [Image source]
A witch ladder, or witches’ ladder, is a long piece of rope or yarn with feathers tied or woven into it. Thing is, no one knows that they are for.
The first witch ladder was discovered in Wellington, Somerset (UK) in the late 19th century. It was discovered in the late 19th century when an old house was due to be demolished. In the attic was found several brooms, a chair, and a witch ladder. The workmen declared that the witch ladder was used by witches to help them magically cross the roof.
Other folklorists claimed it might have been used as a rope to steal milk from neighbours’ cows, something that features heavily in historical and folkloric witchcraft.
Other theories are that the witch ladder is similar to an Italian form of cursing using a ‘ghirlanda’, or garland. The garland is a curse, with each of the feathers representing an illness that will be inflicted upon the victim. The witch ladder would be filled with ill intent and then hidden, either under the victim’s bed or in their attic. This would typically result in death of the victim.
However, no other old witch ladders have been found, and so its use in historical magic remains doubtful. Some scholars have compared the Wellington witch ladder to a ‘sewel’, used to turn back deer when hunting, so it may not be a magical object at all.
Despite the fact that witch ladders are unlikely to have been a part of historical witchcraft, they have been brought into modern witchcraft as a beautiful form of knot magic, and so are worth talking about. These modern witch ladders are commonly used as a house protection charm or blessing, and my favourite tutorials on how to make your own are here and here.

hi, i know a lot of you see these posts from me again and again, but my baby cat is sick.
peggy is only 2 years old and she is my world i have never loved an animal like i love her. ive had her since she was basically a newborn and yesterday she didn’t eat drink or poop all day. she still hasnt eaten or drank. we took her to the vet which was 174, and they gave her injections and hydration, but said if she doesn’t improve overnight she would need to be tested for more serious things.
the total they gave me was 384... i have 30 dollars left as this happened JUST after rent. my mom might give me 100 but my and my roommate’s family are tapped out from the hurricane draining my funds and my roommate’s family’s funds.
peggy has not yet improved at all. im starting to doubt she will without figuring out what’s causing this.
if anyone can donate anything just so we can be prepared for the worst tomorrow, i would really appreciate it. i will pay everyone back if nothing happens. hell if you want i will pay you back when i get paid on the 10th. please help my baby
my paypal is [email protected] btw
