kitty was back to her roots, sitting, watching, observing, picking up on things people thought they were hiding. she took up her spot on the bench watching everything go down. people trying to negotiate prices, secretly trade things they don’t want others to know they have, the people meeting at the markets pretending to shop while all they’re doing is gossiping between them. the words, “you’re so much different when we’re alone” caught her attention as she watched the accuser stare down another person who pretended to be interested in a potion on a table. no one paid any attention to her while she snacked on random candy she had traded for before taking up post. 

the shadow cast over her from behind was the only thing that drew her from her observation. kitty turned around and glanced up, squinting to block the sun, “should i put a bell on you next time?” 

“Kinky. I never took you as the kinky type.” Felix said with a flirtatious grin as he nudged her slightly to make some room for him on the bench. “So who are ya watchin’, kitty cat? I’m so terribly bored today, I might as well watch with you.”

location: a random training room. player(s): hela + open.

since the retrieval of all four keys, hela had been keeping below the radar. she had started to learn to look after herself, reflecting on the years that she had been trapped inside this whirlwind of a game, the memories she had; both the good and the bad. her mind hadn’t stopped spinning with thoughts so was this really how someone looked after themselves?  

silence was a dangerous thing for the player, it allowed her to tip ever so slightly over the edge. the game had been in a lull recently, nothing too crazy seemed to occur but hela’s mind only told her that something big was coming and it was going to come sooner than later. for some unknown reason, hela’s thoughts, and feet, had led her to the training room. she pushed the door open a crack, her slender figure able to just slip through the space into the empty room. she strolled to the middle of the room, her own footsteps being the only sound she could hear. she lowered herself to the floor, back pressed to the ground as she stared to the ceiling. 

an odd space for a lie down but a new atmosphere hopefully meant a new flurry of thoughts. 

Felix always though Hela had been an odd one. His brother was more forgiving, but then again, he had always been the better person out of the two of them. After his brother’s passing, though, what friendship with Hela he had had been lost. Despite them being in the same guild, things haven’t changed much. 

He pressed his lips together before walking up to her, only to crouch down to lie down beside her. 

She was an odd one, but Feix had his fair share of oddities as well. 

“I thought you might like some company.”

Bleed

Pre-Solo Felix

“It’s not bad. Radish, look at me, it’s okay. It’s just a small cut.” Felix grasped at Radish’ face in an attempt to get him to focus his gaze on Felix before picking him up and moving him a bit further away from the chaos that was the boss battle. 

“That’s a lot of blood…” Radish managed to stammer out as Felix stretched out his (Radish’) leg. He tried not to wince at the gash that was indeed, much bigger than he tried to make it seem, before looking up to smile reassuringly at the younger player. “You should see me at the dentist, kid. This is nothing.” Keep him calm. Everything’s okay. The warrior pulled out his inventory and grabbed at some bandages and potions. 

“Felix! Get back on the field!”  He pointedly ignored the order his second had yelled out, instead propping Radish’ leg on his knee and quickly cleaning the wound. “First boss battle with Catalyst. Different feeling, huh?” He spoke with a low tone, voice tight as he tried to distract the younger player from the overall calamity that was their environment. Radish let out a yelp of pain as Felix tugged at his bandage. Felix grasped at his knee in comfort before looking up to find Radish nodding his head slowly. “It’s different. Yeah…” 

More blood. There was more blood. 

“My first boss battle, I remember how nervous I was. I ended up blacking out only a few minutes in. God, they were all so mad at me.” Felix let out a strained laugh as his fingers moved to wrap more bandages around the wound. He noticed Radish’ eyes drift to the battlefield. 

“Kid, just keep your eyes on me, okay?” 

A few more tugs, a few more knots, and one more potion. 

“This should last till we get back to HQ.” Felix closed his inventory before quickly getting up, extending a hand out to Radish. The younger player looked up at him incredulously before taking it and heaving himself up. 

“Are we… Are we going back out there?” Radish all but squeaked, looking to the battlefield then back to his leg. Felix grinned at him and unsheathed his sword. “Fight’s not over till we’re in pieces, Turnip. Don’t worry. I got your back this time.”

“eeeh,” radish said, all nasal like he was imitating a game over buzzer. he held out his staff to block felix’s path, eyebrows raised at the obvious excuse. “what the fuck man, i thought you were better at lying. at least you used to be. lied to us about caring for years so i figured you were good.” low blow, but he was feeling a little spicy today.

it had nothing to do with the cuts and bruises he was sporting today. minor injuries that would heal with one simple potion, but right now he was distracted. “really dude. what are you doing here. i ain’t a guard but i can still kick your ass if i need to.” could he? no. would he? probably also no, unless felix started it. this was all just the usual radish roll, all talk and no fight. “everything okay?”

He froze. Is that what he thought? Is that what they all thought? His brows rose before an incredulous scoff left his lips. “You think... you think I lied about caring about the guild?” His voice was low, lips curling downward in agitation. 

You know what? Fuck them. Let Cass have her way with all of them. He’d let her use their friendship bracelets as toothpicks for all he cared. That was what they expected from him anyway. 

“You think I didn’t devote myself to the safety and protection of the guild? Fuck you, Radish. I loved all of you almost as much as I loved Moony. Hades was my brother. You were my family.” He was breathing hard now, eyes burning with anger. “I trusted all of you to have my back. I hoped for all of you to hold my hand when my world got dark. But no, one fight and... and I was shunned... Not even a few days after I lost half of my life.” Felix scoffed. “So I apologize for not begging for forgiveness. You’re right, I don’t give a shit about any of you now.” A lie. “But don’t you dare imply I didn’t carry my weight back then.”

He was no rogue, and he didn’t belong to the shadows, but Radish often popped up where he was least expected (or wanted). So when Felix jumped, his smug levels hit maximum capacity as he crossed his arms over his chest, mage battle mask lifted up and resting on his head like a baseball cap.  

“Whatcha doin’ here, Felix?” he asked, hanging on to the ‘x’ for a beat longer, sounding a bit like a snake rearing up for the strike. Kssssss. He remembered their last conversation, he hadn’t been that drunk. He particularly remembered not getting through to him much. Which tracked, because Radish couldn’t really remember the last time he’d uplifted anyone. That was not among his strengths. “Cause last I checked you’re like, enemy zero on these grounds. Y’know? That special label reserved for traitors and backstabbers and treason…that kind’a shit.” Despite how inflammatory his words were, his tone held no real bite. Instead, he seemed mostly curious, an inquisitive gleam masked under a shit-eating grin.

What was he doing here... He scowled at the younger player before looking away. He wasn’t going to let on that he had a semblance of a moral compass. He wasn’t going to admit that he was slightly worried about them and the fact that Cass seemed to have her sights set on their ultimate demise. And he most definitely wasn’t going to show that a tiny... miniscule... microscopic part of him missed this. 

“If I’m enemy zero, you definitely need to regroup.” He said with a scoff. “I was... I was just about to leave. Thought I’d give Luther some shit for fun.” He fidgeted on the spot before attempting to sidestep the mage before him.

He hated how his feet seemed to take him to Catalyst. He hated it. He had been pandering by the sidelines for about a good half hour before finally making it to the facade. The guards had looked at him with some trepidation, but because he hadn’t really stepped foot into their territory, they couldn’t really do anything. 

“Calm down, Luther, your intimidation face makes you look constipated.” Felix called out to one of the guards, who in turn let out an indignant harrumph. Felix rested both hands on his hips in contemplation before turning around to walk away (because no, he wasn’t going to help) only to stop with a slight startle at the sight of Radish.

“Fuck! Turnip, you some kind of cat?

He needed to get his mind off things. Needed to ignore the tug at his conscience and the sudden urge to be a do-gooder. 

Another shudder. 

Hades can take care of himself. He didn’t need him to help him. Catalyst can suffer under Cass’ reign of terror on their own. He grumbled to himself as he marched towards the Revenant’s kitchen, only to raise a brow at the sight of Hela. 

Ugh. Great. 

“Do we have any cereal left?” He asked gruffly.

“Felix.” 

“Jesus, Mary and Joseph!” The sandwich he had been munching on flew from his hands as he jumped a good four inches from the ground, a pale hand draping over his shoulder like a claw. Felix whirled around with a scowl, only to have his eyes widen slightly at the sight of a woman he didn’t think he’d ever see again. 

“Cassie what a... what a pleasant surprise.” He sneered at the lie as he gave her a quick once over. God, if the woman weren’t the actual devil’s incarnate, he would have totally gone for her. Cass smiled at him in amusement before tilting her head almost playfully. “The feeling is mutual, darling. I must say, your reaction was much more entertaining compared to Hades’. He was always such a... dull dud.” Felix narrowed his eyes at the mention of the archer, guard immediately pulled up because surely, the fact that Cass had gone to see both Hades and him was a bad sign. 

“I thought I told you not to go near him again.” Felix pointed out, only to have Cass hum in thought. 

“Circumstances have changed.” 

“Who cares about circumstance.” 

“It seems... you do.” She tugged at the green of his uniform and smirked. “I’m sorry about your brother.” Ah yes... those circumstances. He tried not to think about the implication behind her condolences, eyes still severely narrowed as he watched her circle him like the vulture she was. 

“Why are you here? I thought demons couldn’t stand the sun.” 

“Still as charming as ever, I see. Calm down, I have no issue with you. It’s the other one I’m after. Or should I say... the other one and a handful more.” Another feral smile. Another chill down his spine. 

“So it’s Catalyst you’re after. Do I want to know why?” 

“You know why. I’ve heard talk. Didn’t you want to dismantle the whole guild system altogether not too long ago?” He hated how well informed she was. He sneered at her before shrugging his shoulders. 

“I don’t know what I want anymore.” 

“Well, that’s the difference between you and me, hun. I follow through.” She bared her teeth before patting his cheek lightly. “We can achieve your goal together, you an I. I’ll even forgive that little tiff you and I had way back when you so sweetly helped little old Hades get away from me.” Another memory he tried to keep hidden in his mind. 

“Stay in touch, darling, alright? You know where to find me.” And with that, she floated away, disappearing like fog through the trees, leaving Felix trembling and shaken... and the familiar feeling of protectiveness rushing through his system like a river. 

Oh great. This again.

“Listen, I don’t know what it is, but I don’t like it.” Felix paced back and forth infront of a small lake tucked away in the woods. He glanced at his reflection and grimaced, imagining his brother looking right back at him with the same disappointed expression painted on his face. It was a common occurrence for Felix to talk to his reflection, mostly because it was the closest he’d get to talking to his brother (they were twins after all). Now, however, he was more than a little distressed, and imagining his brother just as distressed wasn’t helping. 

Ever since he had saved Hades from that monster back in floor he-doesn’t-even-remember, his conscience seemed to have been kicked into high gear. “I find myself... caring about things again. And fuck Moony, it’s gross. I hate it.” Not only that, but he found himself worrying about the little shit too. 

“And now, he seems to be in actual danger, and what do I find myself wanting to do?” 

‘Helping?’ He could almost hear his brother suggesting. 

“Ugh, I should just let Cass eat him or something. Have her little witchy claws dig into him and be done with it.” Felix shuddered as he remembered his recent encounter with the mage. He scowled at his reflection before running a hand through his cropped hair, not noticing the incoming player.

She rolled her eyes, deciding in that moment that it was probably best if she just ignored his annoying ass for as long as she could. Getting into a back and forth with him was the last thing she wanted. Other wise he might think she was actually enjoying his company.

Which to clarify she was not. 

She would have rather faced the dangers of the maze on her own. However, he was their second. You don’t say no to your boss… even if he was a douche. At his question she raised a brow, “ Why? Are you here to listen to all my complaints thus far?” she sighed giving a little shrug, “ Things were simpler when I was a solo. Guilds complicate matters.”

“As your second in command, I like to make sure everyone’s happy.” He grinned at her and shrugged his shoulders. “I can’t help but agree. If I’m being honest, I did enjoy my solo life a bit better but... It’s always nice to have the insurance.” The Revenants were... different. They didn’t talk much and he still felt the detachment, something he didn’t feel back when he was in Catalyst... up until the end at least. 

“But I’m glad I joined. I wouldn’t have met you, huh, Peaches?”

Killmongur felt the tips of her fingers heat up and tingle but she closed her hands into fist as she kept walking. Pushing the magic down…

“ Firstly, BFF we are not. On a good day I can tolerate you presence but keep it up. Second, you wouldn’t even know how to be a BFF if half the stories I heard about you in your former guild is true.” she spat. It was a low blow even for her but she was agitated. It felt like a thousand bugs were crawling on her skin and all she wanted to do was go home and practice some more spells from the dark tome King had got her. 

Ever since the night in Benny’s apartment she felt different… stronger. Magic course  through her and all she wanted to was wield it and become powerful. It left her feeling amazing and scared which was why she wasn’t using it to much because she was scared of what happened if she lost control, or when. 

“What’s the deal with you and corn? Are you hungry or something? The faster we clear the mazes, the faster we get the keys and go to the next level. Unless you want to roam the mazes like an idiot for another three years.”  

“Okay, Peaches, sure. As your BFF, I’ll just let you think that.” He smiled at her, resting his hands over her head in a show of nonchalance. He almost let his smile waver. Almost. But if Felix was anything, he was determined to remain an asshole when he wanted to. 

He forced himself to relax his walk, falling into a steady pace beside her before shrugging his shoulders. 

“Yes, bestie, I am. Do you think Nova has churros?” He let out a sigh before nodding his head. 

“Hey, so how are you liking the Revenants so far?”

“ For fuck sake, you’re worst than the kids at the orphanage you know that?” she muttered continuing to take the lead.  Killmongur wasn’t any happier about their situation but you didn’t hear her complaining. Sure, it sucked to barely miss that laser and the fire pit did singe her skirt so badly that she had to remove it and walk the rest of the maze in her ‘Lara Croft” shorts but they were still alive. 

Though he wouldn’t be for long if he kept whining. 

“ No we can’t come back tomorrow, so stop asking. You decided to tag along like gum on the bottom of my shoe so stop whining and stop calling me peaches.” 

“First off, gum at the bottom of your shoe? You can’t call your BFF that. It’s in the BFF guide book. Second, do you know how many syllables your username has? I don’t have time for that, Peaches.” Felix stretched his arms over his head before raising a brow. 

“Why do you want to solve this maze so badly anyway? Why couldn’t we have gone to the garden one? Or the corn one? We get free corn.”

“Peaches, I want to go home.” Felix frowned as he patted at his freshly singed sleeve. He thought the white maze would have been the least dangerous, but the lasers and fire pits were definitely a curve ball he should have seen coming. “I’m tired. I’m hungry. My shirt is a mess!” He raised both his arms up to show the holes in his tunic before dropping them down with a sigh. 

“Can we come back tomorrow? Or never? We should have gone for the corn maze... At least I’d have corn...”

“So are you telling me that this isn’t a date?” Felix gasped, holding a hand to his chest in mock hurt. “Captain Herc, I am flabbergasted. I was under the impression that there was something special between us. I even wore my best shirt! Men like you... Have pity on my delicate heart.” Felix threw his guild master a smirk as they continued to wander through the garden maze. 

“So do you have a plan, Cap?”

A scoff left Erebus as she eyed him up and down. “Right, because the first thing that comes to mind when I see you is to totally fear for my life.” Her voice was dripping with sarcasm as he went on about unnerving people. It took a lot for the Circus leader to fear anyone, and he hadn’t made a single impression of that to her, but neither had anyone else for that matter. “Anyone ever tell you that you’re ridiculous, because you are.” At the mention of Seraph she immediately stiffened and clenched her fist. “I don’t need your pity. It means nothing to me.” 

“I’m not giving you my pity. I don’t care about you that much.” Felix said with a scoff, trying to stomp down the grief he felt for his late friend. He was quiet for a while before letting out a long breath. “I was about to join Circus you know... for a while, I wanted to do it for her. I felt she had been the only person to truly understand me.” He said quietly. “And now she’s gone. I should have seen it coming really. Everyone I seem to care about in this bloody game tends to have the same fate.”

Erebus was going to snap at him for the bean sprout remark, but there was something about the way he said it and approached her that reminded the guild leader too much of Seraph. She missed her second in command so much that she was desperate to have anything near her that reminded her of the other. Instead of throwing out another threat she let him stand by her side with a resigned huff. “So you’ve just decided to just park yourself next to the player everyone calls a ruthless psychopath instead of company that is less likely to stab a knife through your brain…Why’s that?”

“People call you a ruthless psychopath too? Twinsies. I sure know how to pick ‘em.” Felix replied with a humorless laugh. “It’s all for my rep, really. I’m pretty sure it’d make a few choice people nervous if they see that I’m talking to you. They always think I’m up to no good, and fraternizing with a grieving circus guild master? I’d be the talk of the town.” His expression grew somber as he rubbed at his shoulder slowly. 

“I miss her... Seraph. You probably miss her more but... I don’t know, I guess what I mean to say is, I’m sorry for your loss.”
