âJesus, Mary and Joseph!â The sandwich he had been munching on flew from his hands as he jumped a good four inches from the ground, a pale hand draping over his shoulder like a claw. Felix whirled around with a scowl, only to have his eyes widen slightly at the sight of a woman he didnât think heâd ever see again.Â
âCassie what a... what a pleasant surprise.â He sneered at the lie as he gave her a quick once over. God, if the woman werenât the actual devilâs incarnate, he would have totally gone for her. Cass smiled at him in amusement before tilting her head almost playfully. âThe feeling is mutual, darling. I must say, your reaction was much more entertaining compared to Hadesâ. He was always such a... dull dud.â Felix narrowed his eyes at the mention of the archer, guard immediately pulled up because surely, the fact that Cass had gone to see both Hades and him was a bad sign.Â
âI thought I told you not to go near him again.â Felix pointed out, only to have Cass hum in thought.Â
âCircumstances have changed.âÂ
âWho cares about circumstance.âÂ
âIt seems... you do.â She tugged at the green of his uniform and smirked. âIâm sorry about your brother.â Ah yes... those circumstances. He tried not to think about the implication behind her condolences, eyes still severely narrowed as he watched her circle him like the vulture she was.Â
âWhy are you here? I thought demons couldnât stand the sun.âÂ
âStill as charming as ever, I see. Calm down, I have no issue with you. Itâs the other one Iâm after. Or should I say... the other one and a handful more.â Another feral smile. Another chill down his spine.Â
âSo itâs Catalyst youâre after. Do I want to know why?âÂ
âYou know why. Iâve heard talk. Didnât you want to dismantle the whole guild system altogether not too long ago?â He hated how well informed she was. He sneered at her before shrugging his shoulders.Â
âI donât know what I want anymore.âÂ
âWell, thatâs the difference between you and me, hun. I follow through.â She bared her teeth before patting his cheek lightly. âWe can achieve your goal together, you an I. Iâll even forgive that little tiff you and I had way back when you so sweetly helped little old Hades get away from me.â Another memory he tried to keep hidden in his mind.Â
âStay in touch, darling, alright? You know where to find me.â And with that, she floated away, disappearing like fog through the trees, leaving Felix trembling and shaken... and the familiar feeling of protectiveness rushing through his system like a river.Â
