@feralemrys
as my final act of love, I will swallow every "please stay" and turn it into silence so you don't feel trapped by my ache
Lancelot's loyalties are so funny to me because he has not only sworn his life and body to the service of Arthur and Camelot, but hes also in love with Gwen in a semi-requited but unreturnable way, and generally those two loyalties do align because Gwen also wants whats best for Camelot and Arthur even if it puts Lancelot in danger so he'll do anything she asks even if it defies his orders as a knight and breaks his heart a bit in the process, but he'll still do it. Of course he would, he loves Gwen, he loves his kingdom. He can and will do anything for his king and queen.
That is, of course, unless Merlin stubs his toe that day, then the man forgets every other priority he's ever had
They give me the sillys, I’m gonna combust.
I think this is the last post of them for a while. I finally got them out of my system, though I still have some ideas I want to finish someday.^^
Broke: Merlin is a royalist because he is a class traitor boot licker
Woke: Merlin is a royalist because he was raised a peasant in the sixth century and he has the perspective and values typical of that time period on top of his personal experiences with Arthur to give him faith in the enlightened despotism favored by Catherine the Great and Frederick of Prussia.
Bespoke: Merlin is a royalist because anyone who had to live through both the English Civil War and Voltaire's exile to Britain would come out the other side thinking democracy is stupid.
Transcendent: Merlin is not a royalist. He is the divine right of kings in human form. The avatar of Albion and its magic. He does not believe in kings because of Arthur. He believes in Arthur so Arthur gets to be king.
this is another part where i just lost my shit completely.
ok no im not done with this.
just the fact that Merlin can just WALK UNANNOUNCED INTO THE KING’S FUCKING CHAMBERS WHENEVER HE WELL PLEASES
just the fact that ARTHUR IS THE FUCKING KING AND HE CAN DO WHAT HE LIKES BUT HE STILL HIDES THINGS FROM MERLIN SO MERLIN WON’T WORRY OR NAG
just the fact that MERLIN CAN NAG THE KING
i mean like omg this movement is so urgent like SHIT IT’S MERLIN OMG HIDE THE HORN OMG
and it’s like
YOU’RE THE KING, ARTHUR.
And such a good strategy too.
I’m still laughing over the fact that he threw all these apples onto the floor and Merlin’s like “What seriously” and Arthur’s like “CLEAN THIS UP BUT DON’T USE THE BOWL”
Day 1
Dear Hunith,
your son has safely reached Camelot, which I think is most unfortunate. I am plagued with questions over your reasoning for sending him here. He's betrayed his secret with me five seconds through the door of my apartments; had there been a patient there, I would be writing you for arrangements for his remains. He also seems, from bits of our conversation, unaware of his father's identity but that seems too odd to be true to me, considering you of all people should know very well what sleeps underneath the castle.
I shall try to keep his as safe as possible, but please, call him back home. My heart could hardly take much more of this,
Gaius
Day 2
Dear Hunith,
Your menace of a son is in jail.
nothing funnier than merthurs trying to fabricate some sort of hostility between merlin and gwen bc of their “jealousy” over arthur… and then the scenes they pick as evidence are scenes from the episode where merlin was possessed by morgana’s fomorroh and the episodes where gwen was enchanted by morgana. where their free will was literally taken from them. girl just admit you cannot pit them against each other
please get a lock on that damn door
I did it. I finally did it. I posted my 37,300 word merwaine fic. Over a year late for last year’s merwaine fest. Hashtag never give up

crawlin back to you
okay but the fact that merlin ends up apparently doing things on the regular that are absolutely not in the purview of the prince's personal servant (cleaning the stables/doing laundry/etc.) makes me think that either
arthur told him to do those things to either tease or punish him, but he didn't realize that merlin doesn't actually know he's not supposed to be doing them. for anyone else high enough to be arthur's personal servant, doing something like cleaning out the stables would be an insult, but for merlin, who isn't trained or used to the castle pecking order, how the hell would he know? and at a certain point, merlin is so unbothered beyond some eyerolls that arthur is honestly a little embarassed. how do you tell someone after weeks, "oh yeah, you don't have to do that. i was just fucking with you the whole time."? can't do it. can't. now arthur is just hoping merlin never finds out.
arthur doesn't actually know what his personal servant is supposed to do. he does things like use them for target practice so they try to not be his servant as quick as possible, so they've never been around long enough (and he's never had enough interest in them) to actually know what they do and do not do. so along comes merlin, who ALSO doesn't know what a prince's manservant does, and arthur just waved vaguely and told merlin to get to work. laundry? that sounds right. SOMEONE has to be doing arthur's laundry. that sounds manservant-y. so yeah. sure. go do laundry.
meanwhile all the other servants know merlin isn't supposed to be doing their jobs as well, but tbh they're just gonna confused about why he is in the first place, and he technically outranks most of them, so uh? go ahead? knock yourself out in the stables, Personal Manservant of the Prince, Who Should Not Be Here.
works the other way, too.
it's so funny to me that merlin is always there with arthur in all his quests because it's not even about his skills. like. arthur doesn't even know merlin has magic which means he doesn't take him with him for protection or backup. like he's literally dragging him along just because that's his emotional support guy. meanwhile merlin is subtly saving him from near death every day and arthurs just like. bringing him over as if he were another essential in his travel pack or a kitten with separation anxiety
