Boxfish gender dimorphism
So we all know that boxfish (ostracion) have gender dimorphism, but I couldn't find any chart explaining it, so I've made it.
Yellow boxfish (ostracion cubicum)
Male:
bigger than the female, gray or blue, blue fins, they have a more pronounced nose and chin than females.
Female:
brown or golden, yellow fins, white spots, less pronounced nose.
Red Sea boxfish (ostracion cyanurus)
Male:
blue, brown/gold back, brown/red spots, flattened snout, bigger than the female.
Female
yellow, black spots, purplish splotches, longer snout, smaller than the male.
Immaculate boxfish (ostracion immaculatum)
no visible gender dymorphism.
Black boxfish (ostracion meleagris)
Male:
blue, yellow spots on the body, yellow strip above eyes, black back in white spots, bigger and flatter snout.
Female:
black covered in white spots, smaller than male, longer snout.
Shortnose boxfish (ostracion nasus)
I couldn't find any information about gender dimorphism.
Horn-nosed boxfish (ostracion rhinorhynchos)
I couldn't find any information about gender dimorphism, allegedly males have a bigger nose.
Solor boxfish (ostracion solorense)
Male:
Blue, covered in lighter more neon spots and stripes, back back covered with tiny spots of the same color, rounded thick snout, Males much bigger than females.
Female:
Beige covered in a busy black pattern, beige spots on black back, longer smaller snout.
Rough boxfish (ostracion trachys)
Male:
Blue, has a white and black stripe around it's back, has a black back covered in white dots, slanted snout, brown tail.
Female:
Dark black, covered in white spots, smaller snout.
Whitley's boxfish (ostracion whitleyi)
Male:
Blue, has white and black stripes around its back, belly and gills, Black back covered in white spots, bigger snout.
Female:
White body, with a olive/orange white spotted coat in its back and on eye level, has a long, skinny snout.
thats REALLY cool guys
clownfish and its variant 💪
the fish in our game would have color variants to collect as well xD
teeny tiny yellow boxfish! and its adult >:]
as i said it was hard to find their adult photos but ive managed to model something decent xD
my searches for Ostracion cubicus photos
funny that just now i was searching for boxfish photos and i found literally 2 photos of an ADULT cubicus. most of the photos around the internet are bby cubicus with all of that cute yellow skin with black dots but i need an actual adult one for my game LOL
so yeah, that was a little frustrating but i have 2 photos and i can do something with that.
anyone has adult cubicus photos or at least arts though? that'd help so much yeah
sailfin pleco is a little BABY!!!!! such a silly little man, he doesnt know he exist uh
do they swim like that? idk, but i think its cute so this is the animation we all are keeping.
its (obviously) a baby variant of an adult sailfin pleco. ALSO i have an albino variant of this fish! ill show if you'll ask but i dunno heh.
