a lot of his want to become stronger and deals with dottore stem from some slightly internalised misogyny he has towards his dysphoria. I think his resentment stems from not only internal conflicts that every trans dude feels, but also a resentment towards Ei and the fact she made him so wrong - which would also explain the further distance between him and his mother. He probably blames her for making him wrong, similar to how religious trans people may blame god for making them wrong. Also, some trans children often feel slight resentment when they start looking like the opposite sex and get compared to their opposite sex parents.
I like to think he got loads of gender euphoria when Niwa was teaching him blacksmithing/swordsmithing skills ^.^
made as a separate entity of her mother and wants to align herself with her more in a sick jealousy kind of way, ("maybe the reason she didn't love me is because I wasn't supposed to be so different) therefore wears fem/ androgynous clothes and feels more comfortable in them, not entirely out of the want to be her mother but because she's convinced this is how she was supposed to be made...and is also very jealous of her sister that is an exact copy of Ei and was everything she was supposed to be.
Scaramouche also feels more maternal instincts. She has such a big “heart” and loves humans so much, wanting to help and feel like a family within tartarasuna, especially after learning humans’ views on gender roles, and aligning herself to them to fit in with the fellow humans.
During her days as a fatui soldier she silently watches Sandrone - a puppet just like her! And borrows her mannerisms without even thinking about it. Shes far from aligning herself with humans and their views on gender, but a little part in her soul still clings on to androgynous clothes and mimicking her female peers…..
Nonbinary/Bigender Scaramouche:
In tartarasuna, they realise humans have very distinct views on gender, and while sometimes they’ll be helping Niwa and learning swordsmithing, they’ll also be knitting with the older ladies and looking after children. Scaramouche feels like they are comfortable doing both gendered roles around the village, and Niwa encourages them to be comfortable doing whatever!
During the fatui, unlabelling their gender comes naturally to them as they use it as a rejection of humanity and mortal's obsession with their sex. They use their identity to further dehumanise themselves to align with their goal of being a god (as I personally hc the archons to be at least a little agender/genderfluid). They see themselves as a puppet of mass destruction and any ties to humans as weakness.
Later in life as wanderer they realise they're still comfortable with this identity and continue to dress themselves androgynously, just not in a dehumanising way (would be especially fun if they chat with other nonbinary students at the academia and discovers their identity isnt dehuamising because other humans feel the exact same way) they realise gender isn’t really super important and like presenting either way. They’re also made so many friends they can relate to the experiences with, facing misogyny due to a softer more feminine appearance - but also relates to what their male peers feel about height and strength insecurity
