2026 calendar for Lukadrien June!
As a reminder, we're doing 15 prompts for the month and for the first time, themes! So that means, there's a prompt for every other day and if you can't come up with anything, you've got a theme to use as inspiration. A gentle reminder that you don't have to do every prompt or even do them on their assigned days. Go crazy and have fun.
Rules:
This is a salt free event. This includes harsh criticisms of the show, characters, ships or fandoms involved. Any kind of hate will not be tolerated and will not be reblogged. Please be respectful.
Fics, art, playlists, edits, cosplay and other creative mediums are all welcome. Please make sure to tag us properly so we can reblog your hard work.
No AI - generated content. It's a safety factor for us as creators to not allow AI to learn how we do things and we should show our own creativity instead of relying on a program. We ask that you respect that by posting things you have created yourself. A reminder that you don't need to feel rushed to post on the day and turn to AI programs to finish or start your work. We're more than happy with whatever you can produce naturally.
We ask that there be no poly ships that include Lukadrien. There are other events that would cover ships such as those and we want to focus on just these two. Feel totally free to have other couples in your posts, but we ask the main focus be on Lukadrien.
As such, alternate personas of the boys are allowed, so feel free to add them in.
The tags for this event are #lukadrienmonth, #lukadrienjune2026, #lukadrienjune. We also ask that you tag the blog @lukadrienmonth
We will allow NSFW, but please have it under ‘Keep Reading’ line and properly tag it with #lukadreinmonthNSFW
If your submissions has a spoiler from a recent episode, please tag or make a note of it. While this mod stopped at S3, a lot of people are still watching the show through. I'll try to keep an eye on when the episodes are released to let you know what episode has been released, so you can tag accordingly.
And finally, have fun! As mentioned, you don’t have to post everyday or even use the prompts given for the day it’s assigned.
Prompts listed below cut.
Percy is a strategical genius, and this hasn't been said enough. I don't get why the Fandom collectively thinks Percy is dumb or needs Annabeth's help with stuff or isn't as smart as Annabeth. Even Annabeth, who should know better, sometimes treats him as such.
Reyna, Piper, Annabeth, and everyone else needs to hear this:
The truth is Percy is a far better strategist than Annabeth because Annabeth can't think quickly on her feet at all. She can weave accurate plans but only when given time and enough information, and only when she is looking at the bigger picture.
Annabeth does, however, have an almost encompassing knowledge of most things, but information is just information unless you apply it.
No one and I mean no one is better than Percy at thinking on his feet.
Mostly almost always Percy seems to be unaware of who his enemies are and yet still manages to go up against them and eventually win while Annabeth is at times left reeling.Percy has run into monsters/deities he had no idea about and still manages to figure out their goals in time to trick/defeat them.
Who figured out Ares's motives? Percy
Who figured out Luke's scheme? Percy
Who tricked Crusty without lifting a finger? Percy
Who figured out the use for Hermes's gift? Percy
Who came up with a way to show Luke's betrayal to the camp? Percy
Who tricked Atlas? Percy
Who made up the entire battle plan in the Battle of Manhattan? Percy
Percy tricks Phineas by literally goading Gaea. He could only do that if he himself understood how Gaea's mind worked.
He singlehandedly subdued Chrysaor (Yes, Frank was the key player, but we are counting the plan only)
Came up with the plan to defeat Polybotes and also executed it singlehandedly
Effortlessly argued and out debated the Roman Senate all by himself
Figured out how to defeat Geras (personification of old age)
Outsmarted Antaeus in his own ring
Managed to negotiate and attain the loyalties of River gods in the Battle of Manhattan.
Manipulated the entirety of New York Law department/ journalists into believing his fabricated cover story and dropping all legal charges against him at 12 years old.
There's so many instances of Percy being far more strategic than Annabeth herself.
Not only this, but Percy is extremely and terrifyingly perceptive and just a damn genius at getting people to give up secrets. [Done this to literally everyone since Book 1]
Athena is the personification of cold hard logic and facts hence Annabeth follows and so she isn't nearly good enough at reading people's intentions or body language.
Yes, Annabeth can be quick on her feet, but it's not very natural to her as it is to Percy because Annabeth believes in pre-planning, but Percy understands and embodies adaptation.
It's a flaw of many of Athena's children. The problem is Athena is a God with the mind of one, nothing stumps her so at any given moment she can and will always have the best plan because her mind is much more rapid than the surrounding circumstances.
Her children, however, are mortal and hence always vulnerable to surprises.
It's the reason why Athena favors Odysseus the most, over everyone. He was quick on his feet, along with being a great planner. He was a strategic genius, and my headcanon is that part of the reason Athena hates Percy is because her greatest enemy's son reminds her of her most favored person.
I recently edited this, and I am sure it's still missing some stuff. That's how underhighlighted Percy's intellectual feats are.
Yes! Literally all the way. I hate how the Fandom has reduced Percy to a dumb surfer boy who only has good plans because the Annabeth in his head thought it out. Those are his thoughts, and his genius! Yes, he isn't known for being book smart (though he actually got a better score on on essay than Annbeth), but that isn't the prelude to being smart.
He reads situations and people better than just about anyone and is able to think on his feet in seconds and succeed. Or he and everyone else would be long dead by now.
It's one of the reasons why I hate the nickname Seaweed Brain. Not only is is demeaning, but it also is a reminder of his abusive father's name to him as Brain Boy, and just overall a reminder of all of Percy's experiences with school and never being deemed smart enough. It's infuriating because I see throughout the books that just because you have a disability like ADHD and Dyslexia, doesn't been you are dumb. In fact you can be smart and brilliant in your own ways that don't reflect always in school. That's one of the huge points in the PJO is to show that you can succeed, even if the world is against you. And to see a character like Percy who is a genius in his adaptability, strategies, perception, and so much more be reduced as a dumb stereotype so his 'girlfriend' can get all the glory with her smarts is rather infuriating.
Especially since like all the feats listed above, it is Percy who goes above and beyond in being the battle strategist and succeeds more often than not, not by his own powers, but by his intelligence!
After seing several dozen tiktoks saying stuff like "Percy gave up godhood/ immortality for Annbeth" or "Annabeth is the main reason why Percy gave up godhood", I am eternally grateful for the existence of this segment from "Demigods and Magicians":
"Zeus offered me a reward: godhood. I turned him down flat. I wanted justice for other demigods instead. I wanted the gods to stop being jerks and to pay attention to their kids." (The Crown of Ptolemy)
Thank you "Crown of Ptolemy"
I truly don't understand how many people misread / don't understand this scene.
I have a lot of criticisms for the writing in Heroes of Olympus, but I will forever be grateful that that book series gave me the scenes where Percy interacts with the roman senate in son of Neptune.
I adore these scenes on so many different levels.
There are two senate scenes in son of Neptune, and I am obsessed with both of them, partly because they really highlight some of my favourite aspects of Percy’s characters: His intelligence, his social awareness, his leadership abilities and his ability to easily understand the emotions of others.
For one, he completely matches, and sometimes even outmaneuvers, Octavian’s oratory skills. Little reminder: at the time of these two senate meetings, Octavian is an 18- year old guy, who is Augur of New Rome, who has grown up in Camp Jupiter, whose family has lived in New Rome for generations and who has consistently been characterized as an extraordinarily talented orator, who even Reyna struggles to deal with in front of the senate:
Suddenly Percy understood what an effective speaker Octavian was. He sounded reasonable and supportive, but his expression was pained. He carefully crafted his words to put all the responsibility on Reyna. This was her idea, he seemed to say. If it went wrong, Reyna was to blame. If only Octavian had been the one in charge, things would have been done more sensibly. But, alas, he had no choice but to support Reyna, because Octavian was a loyal Roman soldier. Octavian managed to convey all that without saying it, simultaneously calming the senate and sympathizing with them. For the first time, Percy realized this scrawny, funny-looking scarecrow of a kid might be a dangerous enemy. (The Son of Neptune, Chapter 14, Percy)
‘It’s not you.’ Reyna scowled. ‘I hate senate meetings. When Octavian gets talking …’ Percy nodded. ‘You’re a warrior. Octavian is a talker. Put him in front of the senate, and suddenly he becomes the powerful one.’ She narrowed her eyes. ‘You’re smarter than you look.’ (The Son of Neptune, Chapter 15, Percy)
‘Why should we trust these Greeks?’ Octavian was saying. He’d been pacing the senate floor for five minutes, going on and on, trying to counter what Percy had told them about Juno’s plan and the Prophecy of Seven. The senate shifted restlessly, but most of them were too afraid to interrupt Octavian while he was on a roll. (The Son of Neptune, Chapter 52, Percy)
Yet, Percy, a complete newcomer, who has never in his life attended a senate meeting or has trained in oratory skills, not only manages to interrupt him in a very effective and even charming way, which makes other members of the senate laugh, but even makes Octavian look ridiculous in what is normally his natural habitat:
‘The camp is safe,’ Octavian continued. ‘I’ll be the first to congratulate our heroes for bringing back the legion’s eagle and so much Imperial gold! Truly we have been blessed with good fortune. But why do more? Why tempt fate?’ ‘I’m glad you asked.’ Percy stood, taking the question as an opening. Octavian stammered, ‘I wasn’t –’ ‘– part of the quest,’ Percy said. ‘Yes, I know. And you’re wise to let me explain, since I was.’ Some of the senators snickered. Octavian had no choice but to sit down and try not to look embarrassed. (The Son of Neptune, Chapter 52, Percy)
With a couple simple sentences, he completely flips the conversation, takes control of the debate and forces Octavian into a defensive position.
At the same time, he shows good restraint and doesn’t fall for any of the tricks Octavian uses to try to rile him up
When Octavian, for example, denies them any kind of provisions on their quest, Percy accepts it without complaint, deescalates a potential tense situation between Frank and Octavian and simply focuses on the matter at hand instead:
‘Praetor, if I may,’ Octavian said. ‘Oh, great,’ Percy muttered. ‘Here it comes.’ ‘The camp is in grave danger,’ Octavian said. ‘Two gods have warned us we will be attacked four days from now. We must not spread our resources too thin, especially by funding projects that have a slim chance of success.’ Octavian looked at the three of them with pity, as if to say, Poor little things. ‘Mars has clearly chosen the least likely candidates for this quest. Perhaps that is because he considers them the most expendable. Perhaps Mars is playing the long odds. Whatever the case, he wisely didn’t order a massive expedition, nor did he ask us to fund their adventure. I say we keep our resources here and defend the camp. This is where the battle will be lost or won. If these three succeed, wonderful! But they should do so by their own ingenuity.’ An uneasy murmur passed through the crowd. Frank jumped to his feet. Before he could start a fight, Percy said, ‘Fine! No problem. But at least give us transportation. Gaia is the earth goddess, right? Going overland, across the earth – I’m guessing we should avoid that. Plus, it’ll be too slow.’ (The Son of Neptune, Chapter 14, Percy)
Even when Octavian personally attacks Percy by insinuating he might be a spy, something which directly goes against his fatal flaw, Percy doesn’t engage with his taunts at all. Instead, he sees through what Octavian is trying to do, keeps his own emotions in check and continues as if nothing had happened:
‘Really?’ Octavian said. ‘You seem to know a lot about our enemy’s plans, Percy Jackson.’ Most insults Percy could shrug off – being called weak or stupid or whatever. But it dawned on him that Octavian was calling him a spy – a traitor. That was such a foreign concept to Percy, so not who he was, he almost couldn’t process the slur. When he did, his shoulders tensed. He was tempted to smack Octavian on the head again, but he realized Octavian was baiting him, trying to make him look unstable. Percy took a deep breath. ‘We’re going to confront this son of Gaia,’ he said, managing to keep his composure. ‘We’ll get back your eagle and unchain this god …’ He glanced at Hazel. ‘Thanatos, right?’ (The Son of Neptune, Chapter 14, Percy)
Because of this, Percy seems like a reasonable and responsible roman, and not as the untrustworthy, rash, incapable danger Octavian tries to portray him as.
But it’s not only Octavian he outperforms. During the second senate meeting, where they discuss whether they should let the Argo II land in New Rome, a lot of senators and Lares are vehemently against the idea, and even Reyna expresses her doubts.
Yet, Percy, on one of his very first days as praetor and during only the second senate meeting, he ever attended, counters every single argument the opposite side provides perfectly.
When a lar insinuates that Percy is untrustworthy, he brings up the appearance of two of New Rome’s most highly respected gods and their respective interactions with him:
‘Ha!’ shouted a Lar from the back row. ‘The last time a praetor tried to interpret the Prophecy of Seven, it was Michael Varus, who lost our eagle in Alaska! Why should we believe you now?’ Octavian smiled smugly. Some of his allies in the senate began nodding and grumbling. Even some of the veterans looked uncertain. ‘I carried Juno across the Tiber,’ Percy reminded them, speaking as firmly as he could. ‘She told me that the Prophecy of Seven is coming to pass. Mars also appeared to you in person. Do you think two of your most important gods would appear at camp if the situation wasn’t serious?’ (The Son of Neptune, Chapter 52, Percy)
When Reyna herself expresses doubts that Romans and Greeks could ever work together, Percy brings up the newly formed alliance between the romans and the amazons:
Reyna stood. Percy watched her anxiously. Her opinion could change everything – for better or worse. ‘You claim this is a combined quest,’ she said. ‘You claim Juno intends for us to work with this – this other group, Camp Half-Blood. Yet the Greeks have been our enemies for aeons. They are known for their deceptions.’ ‘Maybe so,’ Percy said. ‘But enemies can become friends. A week ago, would you have thought Romans and Amazons would be fighting side by side?’ Queen Hylla laughed. ‘He’s got a point.’ (The Son of Neptune, Chapter 52, Percy)
He also consciously uses Jason’s reputation in his argumentation, because he knows what a significance he holds to the romans and he even swears on his life, something which has a huge significance in roman society:
‘I know it’s hard to believe,’ Percy said. ‘But I think I’ve earned your trust. I’m on your side. Hazel and Frank – I’m sure they’re meant to go with me on this quest. The other four are on their way from Camp Half-Blood right now. One of them is Jason Grace, your old praetor.’ ‘Oh, come on!’ Octavian shouted. ‘He’s making things up, now.’ Reyna frowned. ‘It is a lot to believe. Jason is coming back with a bunch of Greek demigods? You say they’re going to appear in the sky in a heavily armed warship, but we shouldn’t be worried.’ ‘Yes.’ Percy looked over the rows of nervous, doubtful spectators. ‘Just let them land. Hear them out. Jason will back up everything I’m telling you. I swear it on my life.’ ‘On your life?’ Octavian looked meaningfully at the senate. ‘We will remember that, if this turns out to be a trick.’ (The Son of Neptune, Chapter 52, Percy)
And he even brings up his own position as a praetor, because he understands how much honor and respects this position holds within Camp Jupiter and reminds them of his own action in the battle against Polybotes:
‘Praetors!’ the messenger cried. ‘What are your orders?’ Octavian shot to his feet. ‘You need to ask?’ His face was red with rage. He was strangling his teddy bear. ‘The omens are horrible! This is a trick, a deception. Beware Greeks bearing gifts!’ He jabbed a finger at Percy. ‘His friends are attacking in a warship. He has led them here. We must attack!’ ‘No,’ Percy said firmly. ‘You all raised me as praetor for a reason. I will fight to defend this camp with my life. But these aren’t enemies. I say we stand ready, but do not attack. Let them land. Let them speak. If it is a trick, then I will fight with you, as I did last night. But it is not a trick.’ (The Son of Neptune, Chapter 52, Percy)
It’s not only insane that he comes up with these incredibly smart and logical counters on the spot, without having to think about his answers for too long, but it’s even more impressive that he managed to tailor his argumentation perfectly to the values and beliefs of roman society, a society, Percy has only been a part of for like a week at most. He shows an incredibly amount of cultural fluency.
But even aside from his argumentation, the way he acts really shows what a good leader Percy actually is. For one, he acts very decisive and confident in front of the other characters, even when he feels the very opposite, and is not afraid to take full charge of the conversation. At the same time, he fully understands when the people around him become scared and panicked, in which case he tries to calm them down as much as possible:
‘Silence!’ Reyna called. ‘Senators, we must act like Romans. Mars has given us this quest, and we have to believe it is possible. These three demigods must travel to Alaska. They must free Thanatos and return before the Feast of Fortuna. If they can retrieve the lost eagle in the process, so much the better. All we can do is advise them and make sure they have a plan.’ Reyna looked at Percy without much hope. ‘You do have a plan?’ Percy wanted to step forward bravely and say, No, I don’t! That was the truth, but looking around at all the nervous faces Percy knew he couldn’t say it. (The Son of Neptune, Chapter 14, Percy)
Finally Senator Larry stood. ‘I know what Mars said, but that’s crazy. Alaska is cursed! They call it the land beyond the gods for a reason. It’s so far north that the Roman gods have no power there. The place is swarming with monsters. No demigod has come back from there alive since –’ ‘Since you lost your eagle,’ Percy said. Larry was so startled, he fell back on his podex. ‘Look,’ Percy continued, ‘I know I’m new here. I know you guys don’t like to mention that massacre in the 1980s –’ ‘He mentioned it!’ one of the ghosts whimpered. ‘– but don’t you get it?’ Percy continued. ‘The Fifth Cohort led that expedition. We failed, and we have to be responsible for making things right. That’s why Mars is sending us. This giant, the son of Gaia, he’s the one who defeated your forces thirty years ago. I’m sure of it. Now he’s sitting up there in Alaska with a chained death god, and all your old equipment. He’s mustering his armies and sending them south to attack this camp.’ (The Son of Neptune, Chapter 14, Percy)
‘If this begins the ancient prophecy, we don’t have resources to send an army to these Doors of Death and protect the camp. I can’t imagine even sparing seven demigods –’ ‘First things first.’ Percy tried to sound confident, though he could feel the level of panic rising in the room. ‘I don’t know who the seven are, or what that old prophecy means, exactly. But first we have to free Thanatos. Mars told us we only needed three people for the quest to Alaska. Let’s concentrate on succeeding with that and getting back before the Feast of Fortuna. Then we can worry about the Doors of Death.’ (The Son of Neptune, Chapter 14, Percy)
The senate scenes also really highlight how skilled Percy is at understanding the emotions of the people around him through the way he immediately understands what Reyna is thinking and feeling, someone who is consistently characterized as a person who keeps her emotions close to her chest:
Reyna must have recognized this, too. A look of irritation flashed across her face. (The Son of Neptune, Chapter 14, Percy)
‘Foes bear arms to the Doors of Death,’ Reyna said. ‘That’s the Prophecy of Seven …’ She looked at Percy, and for just a moment he could see how scared she was. She did a good job of hiding it, but Percy wondered if she’d had nightmares about Gaia, too – if she’d seen visions of what would happen when the camp was invaded by monsters that couldn’t be killed. (The Son of Neptune, Chapter 14, Percy)
God, I love these scenes. They’re easily some of my favourite scenes in all of heroes of Olympus, and provide such a good characterization for Percy.
Son of Neptune Percy Jackson, you will always be famous.
Please come home:')
Still thinking about how we're just not expected to care that Rachel basically gave her whole life away. She can't go to the same school as her best friend, she has to go to a finishing school her parents chose for her to 'fix her' into the perfect daughter they want. And then she has to give up any chance to find love in order to be the Oracle, which is a responsibility placed on her against her will that she takes in stride because she knows it's important, she knows she will be saving lives and she respects the previous Oracles that came before her. Then, Percy drifts apart from her.
People talk about Percy giving up immortality, how it's a sign of his maturity and the love he has for his friends and Earth and Annabeth. What Rachel did might have been an ever greater feat, because she had to give up what turned Percy away from immortality—a normal life. A chance to live the life she wanted.
She gave up so much, and we're supposed to not care. She gave up so much for these stupid powers and then the Triumvirate corrupts them so they don't even work. Apollo just abandons her and she is just there to endure this deafeaning silence. She gave up everything and she's left with less than how she started. The light goes out of her. She destroys her art, and she couldn't care less, because she can't even remember what it feels like to like art. They won. They've finally broken her. Congratulations, Mr. Dare.
Rachel should've been the secondary protagonist of Trials of Apollo, instead she gets thrown a bone at the end of the series, which is too little too late.
Why can't Percy and Rachel hang out? Why can't she quit Clarion Academy? Why is she not allowed to be upset over all of this?
I've been reading this really good fanfic that's called Be Careful What You Wish For by Thunderbirdswolvesandlilacs (You should totally check them out their super awsome!)
But it's such a interesting fic, esspecially when you dive deep into what its about
Warning!!! For all Annabeth, Percabeth, this isn't Annabeth or Percabeth friendly! The whole fic is about criticising and having Annabeth undergo the consequences of her actions!!
Anyway, as I was saying, the story is about how Annabeth's action finally get their consequences and goes on trail for them.
I wouldn't spoil much but if your interested in it and have no issues with a lot of Annabeth bashing, then totally check it out!
Ps. I would recommend reading the comments, they're super fun and informative!! They touch a lot of interesting points in the story and offer alternatives to what Annabeth could have done, also just generally fun to read :)
I love that Fanfic
"Annabeth's a teenager! Teens are messy! Let teens be messy and rude!"
Are we absolving teenagers from criticism now?
Because, like, if we're doing this, does that mean Clarisse gets a pass from bullying because she's a messy teen? Does that extend to Luke, Ethan, and Octavian, too? I know these three are devils compared to Annabeth, but they're still messy teens, too, you know.
Gotta know when the line is drawn, you know.
Annabeth's old enough to know attacking people and being a cunt basket is unacceptable. Unless she's a toddler/infant, she's not immune to criticism or consequences. Then again, little children know that hitting, let alone flipping, people is a horrible thing to do. They get punished for being mean, too.
Trying not to get sidetracked lol.
Idk why the hell some percabeth stans think that's a justification to be a shitty person. Every time I see someone, an anti or critical, bring up Annie's flaws, some PB stan says some stupid shit like "Annabeth's a teen! Teens are immature and messy! Let teens be messy." When that's not the issue. It's that she hasn't been called out for her actions. By the story in particular. The bad things she did, like the judoflip, aren't seen as bad. It's glossed over, and worse, praised. So, when people like me notice that and become critical, some rabid stans bring up gender and age as an excuse to gloss over.
I don't see this argument for Percy or any other characters... maybe Piper gets the same dumb treatment too. I wonder why...
"Teens do it all the time! Teens are rude all the time!"
Yes, teens are assholes. Guess what? They get punished for it. Their parents primarily punish them, but if that doesn't happen, they learn the hard way and face the FAFO combo. Like, I was a teen and got in trouble for being rude/mean. Don't sit here and act like you haven't been punished for terrible behavior. I know y'all have.
To add, with this type of logic, bullying isn't a bad thing. Teens are immature, rude, and messy, right? So bullying shouldn't be condemned. It's part of growing up, remember!
Overall, these excuses are just dumb as hell and another way to deflect and excuse toxic shit. Of course, Annabeth is allowed to be messy and flawed, but not without consequences.
So, if she's going to be mean, she should expect cruelty in return. If she's going to call Percy dumb and make him feel stupid (attempt to at least), why not call her a swellhead or a bitch whenever she's acting superior/prideful? If she's going to attack him, why not let Percy get even?
Anyway, this argument is dumb, and I'm tired of seeing it. You're infantilizing Annabeth, and it's really crazy and fucking dumb. She's 16 or whatever, not 2. I'll continue to criticize her as much as I want. I mean, it's kinda ironic because the same ones making these claims are criticizing Percy, another teen.
Okay. Peace out. ✌️

No bc I actually want to talk more about this!!
The fact Rick had to make Rachel the oracle bc she would "get in the way" of percy and annabeth and make up some rule of no dating for said oracle (is that even a thing for oracles??? Rachel was like 15/16 lol she would want to date bc she was a teenager???? And I know Rick likes to bend the rules of Greek mythos, which is fine but you know) and having her and annabeth suddenly becoming friends when just the book before annabeth was trying to pick a fight with Rachel??? And Rachel just excepts it??? Idk about you but if I had been called dumb and some random girl who was jealous over a boy she wasn't even dating at that point was trying to pick a fight, I would have been more meaner lol
I keep thinking that he should have made Rachel a demigod (maybe a daughter of Hera or Apollo??? Considering she likes art and is artistic??? And ik demigods typically only have 1 parent but with rachel, maybe she was adopted and it could have shown that her parents supported her and still loved her!!!) Bc then Percy could have had another demigod friend other than annabeth in the human world and at school! There was so much more Rick could have done with Rachel but didn't bc he was afraid that she would outshine annabeth/percebeth and I keep thinking about it!
You're not wrong rick wanted the audience to know that annabeth was his only real option.
half the girls that have shown interest in percy took a vow of celibacy (rachel and reyna) or if they had an interesting dynamic with him they died (zoé and bianca).
thalia is somewhat an exception to this because her reasoning for joining the hunters and making her vow made sense, but she was still pushed to the side because she had fun relationship with percy.
from what other people have told me no, that was not a rule for the oracle. nor was it really a thing for the hunters either, it was the same kinda thing, but they could also leave the hunt whenever they wanted to, with zero consequence.
right??? i really wish that we would have seen annabeth apologize to rachel, especially before rachel was the oracle. so it didn't feel like the way it doesn't canon, which is "well she can't date percy so I have no reason to be a bitch now".
You're so real for that, because if I was rachel and annabeth was treating me that way while I was on a quest to save her camp in one of the most feared places in greek mythology without a weapon, I would have lost my mind.
I disagree with that, I love that rachel was mortal and clear sighted so she was unique to the people that percy had around him. i think that made their dynamic so fun.
Headcannon: Percy is immensely popular among nature spirits and "minor" gods
Oceanids & Nereids
It starts small.
The Nereids and Oceanids are naturally curious about him when they find out about his existence, that’s already canon:
She (a nereid) nodded. “It has been many years since a child of the Sea God has been born. We have watched you with great interest.”
Suddenly, I remembered faces in the waves of Montauk Beach when I was a little boy, reflections of smiling women. (The Lightning Thief, chapter 17)
Later, at the latest by the time Titan’s curse happens, nereids and oceanids see him save ocean creatures from fishing gear, or whales stranded on beaches, or him helping mermaids with hanging nails. (Titan’s curse, chapter 7) We see him be considerate and respectful to nereids through his interaction in the fourth book at the ranch.
She looked like she was ready for a fight. Her fists were balled, but I thought I heard a little quaver in her voice. Suddenly, I realized that, despite her angry attitude, she was afraid of me. She probably thought I was going to fight her for control of the river , and she was worried, she would lose.
The thought made me sad. I felt like a bully, a son of Poseidon throwing his weight around.
I sat down on a tree stump. “Okay, you win.”
The naiad looked surprised. (The Battle of the Labyrinth, chapter 9)
It’s pretty good established in the books, that smaller gods and spirits don’t get treated with respect most of the time, especially not from heroes of old like Herakles and the Olympian gods. The reaction of the naiad adds to this sentiment, so we can pretty easily conclude that the way Percy treats them, is relatively rare.
In-between the books, Rick often sprinkles in some interactions between Percy and naiads, which further underlines their positive opinion of him:
I looked over the edge of the boat and found a couple of naiads staring at me. They looked like regular teenage girls, the kind you’d see in any mall, except for the fact that they were underwater.
Hey, I said. They made a bubbling sound that may have been giggling. I wasn’t sure. I had a hard time understanding naiads.
We’re heading upstream, I told them. Do you think you could-
Before I could even finish, the naiads each chose a canoe and began pushing us up the river. (Titan’s curse, Chapter 14)
Satyrs & Dryads:
The satyrs know that he, Clarisse, Annabeth, Tyson and Grover were the ones, who returned the golden fleece to camp half-blood and so, have stopped satyrs from getting killed by Polyphemus. During the battle of the labyrinth, Percy is the one who extinguished the fire and stopped the trees and dryads from getting burnt to death. Not to mention that he is best friends with the guy, who discovered Pan and has the title of Lord of the Wild.
“Minor” Gods:
The non-Olympian gods, like Hecate, Nemesis, Eros, Hebe and Morpheus were probably curious about him, even wary, but nothing more at first, until Percy managed to stop the civil war between Zeus and Poseidon at the age of twelve.
We know that canonically, this already earned him the respect of many different beings:
As I walked back through the city of the gods, conversations stopped. The muses paused their concert. People, and satyrs and naiads all turned towards me, their faces filled with respect and gratitude, and as I passed, they knelt, as if I were some kind of hero.” (The Lightning Thief, chapter 21)
By the time the war with Kronos further escalates and they join his side, this obviously changes again. From this moment on, Percy is their enemy, and probably nothing more for most of them.
But then, they lose, and probably expect the worst of consequences.
Gods who have crossed Zeus have suffered severe punishments before. Prometheus was bound to a rock, with an eagle eating his liver every day because he stole fire from the gods, gifted it to humanity and tricked Zeus, the titans were banished to Tartarus after the Titanomachy. After some of the gods rebelled and tried to overthrow Zeus, Hera got hung in the sky with golden chains, where she cried out all night in pain, while Apollo and Poseidon were forced to work as labourers for King Laomedon of Troy.
They probably expected to get thrown into Tartarus with the rest of the Titans, get stripped of their immortality, or worse. Instead, however, their children finally receive cabins at camp half-blood and they themselves receive full amnesty.
All because Percy Jackson, this 16-year-old teenager, decides to change the entire thousand year old status quo on Olympus.
He could have wished for anything after their victory over Kronos and the titan army. The choice was not between the oath he made the gods swear and him becoming a god. He could have wished to be left alone, or to never have to do a quest again, or live a happy, and peaceful life away from the pain and wars until the end of his days, or literally anything else, but he didn’t. He made the active choice to make Olympus fairer, and to create equality among the demigods, without even thinking about it for too long.
No one can convince me that this, and his already mentioned other actions, didn’t earn him the respect of huge parts of the mythological world.
Not even Rick himself (no matter how much he may try in his new books)
Another little entry to this headcanon :
Percy's relationship to the mythological world is something that is so special to me :')))
"Reyna is an emotionless robot-" Let me stop you right there. Reyna canonically broke down when she saw her dad's ghost. She cried over the death of Scipio(her pegasus). The possibility of Hylla dying made her feel like her heart was breaking in two.
She was so surprised when she heard Percy(and co) faced off Kronos she almost tripped on her toga. She had a heart to heart with Nico. Yes, Reyna is good at hiding her emotions(and doesn't show them very often) but that doesn't mean she doesn't feel them.
Reyna isn't any robot
This is ridiculous. She is a girl with a big burden on the shoulders and a very harsh prophecy that no one understood
Hoy hace 1 años que llegué a Tumblr. 🥳
The whole "house husband Percy" agenda the percabeth fans are pushing disturbs me so much. You have no idea.
1. Is Percy not allowed to have ambitions and dreams of his own? Annabeth has her architecture. Let Percy have his environmentalism, and 'saving the sealife' hobbies that who knows-could potentially turn into a job with the right connections.
2. It's pushed by the same crowd that refuses to acknowledge that Percy is smart, let alone that he's canonically smarter than Annabeth. The same crowd that thinks he's a seaweed brain (aka stupid), and needs Annabeth to be the brains for him. It gives the impression that accomplishing anything in the mortal world is too much for Percy - he's incapable of it, he should just stay at home and do the house cleaning/child rearing and let Annabeth do all the higher thinking.
3. It also follow the dangerous trend of Annabeth's abusive tendencies in isolating Percy from his friends/family. She's already isolated him from Jason, Reyna and Rachel - the last via emotional manipulation (actively making him uncomfortable to even mention her). Imagine a life where Percy stays at home most of the time - only with Annabeth. She brings in all the money, and therefore has even more control over him. Any money he needs to see friends - bus/plane tickets, money for a vehicle/gas etc. he has to ask her permission for it. In the world we live in, money is everything. Can't do anything without it. Annabeth will have all of it, and Percy would be completely dependent on her. He wouldn't even be able to get a phone or laptop to communicate with them without asking for Annabeth's money and permission.
This is not to say that all marriage where one member is a stay at home spouse is controlling and abusive. That isn't the case. But in HoO, Annabeth has shown alarming abusive and controlling tendencies - both in controlling Percy's social life and restricting his autonomy and powers. Giving Annabeth financial control of his life would be disastrous and perfect grounds for her existing abusive tendencies to become far worse.
Yeah, and also, I can't see Percy ever being comfortable with having someone having all the control over finances. Like Gabe regularly made Percy earn money (at 12 and possibly younger) and provide for his gambling funds. Which means he was financially abusive, and Percy had to fork over any extra money (as deemed by the cab ride after ditching Grover).
And Sally was working multiple jobs and likely paying for much of the expensive because this was her apartment and everything.
So there's no way Percy would ever be comfortable with someone having so much financial power over him. And Annabeth, whose a control freak - it would end in a disaster!
maturing is realizing that percabeth was a toxic and abusive relationship and that annabeth was not a good person.
Lmaaaooo, imagine seeing people who don’t like Annabeth and saying most if not all of them are misogynistic. Like,,, how is taking ONE of SEVERAL female leads in a book series to task misogyny? Piper and Hazel are queens, Reyna is awesome if a bit stiff, but Annabeth? Annabeth is controlling to an extent. Does she learn? Sometimes. But not when it matters most.
For all of Percy’s faults—he’s usually only ever praised Annabeth to her face. If he’s thought something wrong, to my immediate knowledge he’s never actually voiced it. Annabeth, on the other hand, thought it was okay to judo flip her very much unprepared for that boyfriend. It doesn’t matter what she thought, you do not physically assault your significant other out of the blue like that. I’m not saying she’s irredeemable, what I’m saying is that I don’t like her because of the fact she has little to no self-awareness about her own flaws and has abusive tendencies. Too many for me to willingly, knowingly call Percy x Annabeth a healthy relationship. The fact that Percy refuses to criticize his girlfriend is also an issue. Their fights, to my memory, were always over minor, stupid things.
But Percy being unwilling to let Annabeth find out about Calypso’s island from him directly or learn that he kissed Rachel, both prior to them dating, is an issue. Annabeth’s jealousy was out of control and Percy would have had every right to call her out for it, because Percy is allowed to have female friends. Percy was allowed, at that time, to explore his other options (with Rachel, not with Calypso. For all the leeway I am willing to give immortals, I really only accept them dating 16-18 year olds at the youngest and without sexual contact or discussions. 19+ is fine, though). Annabeth had no right to be so jealous that Percy felt he had to hide it, and Percy definitely should have talked to Annabeth about how he felt.
Why do I give Percy more leeway?
Annabeth ran away because she felt emotionally neglected. I can relate to that, but I’ve never felt the need to runaway. I can accept that Annabeth, on account of the spiders that her mist-blind father and step-mother couldn’t see, felt unsafe to the point of running. That doesn’t, however, change the fact she was almost immediately found by two older demigods and taken to camp half-blood, where she was immediately placed with others who could relate to her experiences and help her adjust.
Percy? Percy had to live with an, at the very least, verbally abusive step-dad for the majority of his life pre-Camp Half-Blood. Percy was probably physically abused if that line about Gabe being willing to punch Percy if Percy stepped to far out of line is any indication. I have no knowledge of if Percy ever told anyone about Gabe, if he ever got therapy or talked to someone about what he went through. He lost his mother just as he arrive and it’s shown that no one helped him recover or grieve or anything. Instead he was singled out within a week, accused of theft, and sent on a quest to stop world war three. With Annabeth acting like a bitch from day one to him and only starting to sort-of soften up with him slowly over the course of the trip, only to bounce right back to being a bitch the next book—because of a baby Cyclopes.
I am willing to accept that she had a traumatic experience with Cyclopes that maybe she didn’t quite get the help she needed to overcome it. However, that does not excuse the fact she lashed out at Percy when it became clear Percy had no idea he was with a baby Cyclopes.
Annabeth never had a pass to be as rude as she was to Percy in the original books. She didn’t have a pass to punch him in The Titan’s Curse when he didn’t immediately realize he should ask her—she’d never given Percy any sign that she would be receptive. From day one, Annabeth was rude, rough, and downright mean to Percy—and was rarely called out on it. When she was, she usually refused to accept it.
I was uncomfortable when I opened up The Staff of Hermes to read how on alert and scared Percy was. I never felt like that in any of my relationships. Also why wouldn’t Percy remember something like promising something special for a fucking one-month anniversary? Even my memory isn’t that bad and I relate quite heavily to Percy’s struggle to remember things. The way it’s phrased in the book suggests that Percy never actually made such an offer—
“Well…yeah!” I thought: Do people celebrate stuff like that? I have to remember birthdays, holidays, and all anniversaries?” (The Demigod Diaries, Page 74)
If he thought that, what in the world would make anyone think that he’d have actually promised such a thing? As someone with ADHD, I know exactly what it’s like to come up completely blank about what someone’s talking about, how hard it is to be sure that they’re not lying to you. They were having a picnic—which wasn’t good enough for Annabeth? If Percy had promised something special, what’s wrong with a picnic? How is that not ‘special’? There is no indication of how often they went on them—and Percy doesn’t come from money. Annabeth would’ve known that.
Annabeth may not be a bad person or even irredeemable—but she uses at the very least unhealthy manipulative tactics from my point of view. I don’t like her, I am quite sure that I hate her. How someone who supposedly has such a traumatic backstory can be so—entitled eludes me. Because she does, in fact, act entitled a lot. Entitled to going on Percy’s first quest (seriously, it bothers me that no one reprimanded her for eavesdropping), entitled to treating Percy like shit over having befriended a baby Cyclopes when he didn’t know her past with them, entitled to act like a bitch to Percy’s mortal, clear-sighted friend who had done nothing to deserve it other than be a ‘threat’ to Annabeth’s interest in Percy romantically.
Neither of them are perfect, but the lack of proper discussion and communication is an issue in the relationship. The codependency showed in HoO is an issue. Making promises like never leaving someone is, frankly, an irresponsible promise. You can never promise someone that you won’t ever leave. You can’t control when you die, if the relationship fall through—even if you remain friends. Annabeth needs to be taken to task for her actions—and Percy needs someone to tell him to stand up for himself, to be more honest with Annabeth about how he feels.
I would like Annabeth better if her flaws weren’t flaws that made her have abusive tendencies not unlike an ex-friend of mine who I no longer have communication with. I would like Annabeth better if she didn’t remind me of a person who once said to mine and another friend’s face that I wasn’t allowed to be friends with other people unless she approved of them. Is this my own issues and trauma making me biased against Annabeth to an extent? Probably. But I relate to Percy—and the fact that Annabeth reminds me of that former friend makes me uncomfortable, especially now that they’re in a relationship.
It’s not misogyny. It’s an ADHD girl who relates to one character being made uncomfortable by another who is rarely criticized and held accountable. A lot of times, Percy is criticized to his face, proven wrong, told he’s wrong, etc. Percy, like Annabeth, has a temper—but Annabeth is allowed to lash out in the books a lot more than Percy. The reason I don’t criticize the author for writing Annabeth this way—is because of the fact that, in real life, not every body is taken to task. Not everybody learns. Not everybody grows as a person.
If you like Annabeth, that’s fine. I just recommend you block me because Annabeth is the character I’ve chosen as the character of comfort through which I will express feelings towards people long out of my life, who I never got closure about, and who were not healthy people for me. Annabeth reminds me the strongest of real people that I’ve met, who hurt me, and I will use her in my stories as a way to deal with that. I’m sorry if that makes you angry. I’m sorry if that makes you think poorly of me.
This is why I ask that you block me. If you’re going to bother me about her, I’ll just block you. Annabeth, as a character, rubs wounds I have raw. Percy, on the other hand, I relate to on a level I didn’t expect to ever relate to any character on. I used to have a temper like his, his form of ADHD expression is pretty close to mine, and I’ve—like him—experienced verbal abuse (even if mine was a more subtle form and my mother will, to this day, deny it). I grew up bullied and coming from little money.
So funny to me (and by funny I mean it makes me mad with rage) that it wasn't enough for Rick to make Rachel the oracle and make so she's unable to have a relationships with Percy; he also had to make sure that she would be going to an all girls school and wouldn't be school mates with him any longer.
And then, he also made sure they wouldn't be close friends in the future. Bc you know. She was once upon a time one of his love interests. And god forbid there's any doubt regarding Percy's choice to be with Annabeth. God forbid this girl who was once important in his life continues to be a close friend after he gets with Annabeth. God forbid he even speaks of her in front of his girlfriend (who is also her friend!) without hesitance.
Btw he did the same thing with Nico, in the sense that he used to have a deeply important relationship with Percy in the first saga, but the moment Rick decided Nico used to have a crush on Percy (and I can assure you, he didn't have this in mind in the first saga) suddenly they couldn't be close anymore. God forbid Nico's process of falling out of love with Percy doesn't involve him diminishing Percy in any way in his head. God forbid Percy is someone Nico confides in, trusts deeply and who is a huge part of his support system.
Rick's unchecked fear of fans merely considering the idea of a ship other than the one he chose has ruined the writing of some amazing platonic friendships and I'll never forgive him for this
Sometimes it baffles me that a large subsection of the PJO fandom is so rabidly hostile towards any Percy ship that isn’t Percabeth, and then I remember how Richard has tacitly been encouraging this behaviour since TLO. Anyone who has even the slightest potential of being a love interest for Percy has that potential shut down with extreme prejudice:
Rachel is made the Oracle and can never have romantic relationships with anyone. After TLO, the friendship that she and Percy developed over what he thought was his last year alive was thrown out the window.
Calypso is trapped on Ogygia, but Percy ensures her release. Until that’s retconned in HOO, anyway, in a move that makes Percy look like a dick and utterly defangs oaths on the Styx. Not to mention, Calypso “cursing” Annabeth (even though it wasn’t intentional or even conscious), and then being given to Leo to ruin his character arc for good measure.
Reyna isn’t even given a chance; her advances are openly rejected by Percy, which is a rarity, and she’s later made a Hunter for good measure.
Nico, despite the years Percy spent worrying about him, searching for him, and then spending time with him, is now treated like a stranger by Percy, even though TLO left them off as good, even best, friends. To add insult to injury, Nico’s “confession” to Percy is, frankly, insulting and played for laughs, and post-HOO he’s given a new boyfriend he has spoken maybe one sentence to beforehand.
And it’s not even just canon love interests either; anyone who even has the potential of an interesting romance with Percy is pushed aside:
Thalia? She’s a hunter now.
Bianca? Hunter; also she’s killed off the chapter after she and Percy form a solid bond.
Any of the Seven post-SON? Percy only has eyes for Annabeth.
Clarisse? Random new boyfriend.
Grover? Random new girlfriend.
So yeah, it makes total sense that Percabeth stans get so toxic about shipping when Richard insists on isolating Percy like an abusive husband.
