His cane hits at least half a dozen people as he tries to make way to one of the exits, most of them too drunk or high or lost in their dances to care, getting away with just a few mumbled apologies thrown over his shoulder. He considers the restroom for a moment, but he is pretty certain it will be just as crowded and somehow even less hygienic, and suddenly his lungs ache for a breath of fresh air.
He finds himself in an alleyway, on some side of the nightclub different than the one he entered through, and leans against the brick wall, enjoying the silence- or as close as he can get to it, with the sound of car engines in the distance and drunken laughs from passers-by every now and then.
The door that offered him refuge opens again a few minutes later, ending that nice window of solitude. "I'm afraid this hiding spot is already taken."
Petra had been back and forth in her decision to go to the Guilded Room for days before she finally put her foot down. Iโm going. End of story. It had taken days more to pick out the perfect outfit and even then she didnโt feel comfortabl or very much like herself. She hadnโt put on a decent dress or done her hair in years; her day-to-day consisted of jeans, a knitted jumper, and thick-soled boots. It feltโฆ strange.
Sheโd grabbed a drink and sat alone, people-watching and realising that coming here wasnโt all she thought it would be. Maybe it was a bad idea. Petra saw other people, younger people, having fun and forgetting their woes and somehow felt sad. Perhaps she was mourning her own youth. Nevertheless, the thoughts overwhelmed her and sheโd barely touched her whisky before she headed out into the cool evening.
Petra was about the breathe a sigh of relief when the unfamiliar voice startled her. She gazed at the man and guessed he wasnโt so pleased by her sudden company.
โOh, thereโs plenty of room,โ she huffed. โBesides Iโll only be here for ten minutes tops. I justโฆ need a breather.โ
โธป michelle pfieffer, 64, cis woman, she/her ; โฆ around redford, names donโt stay clean for long. PETRA JACKSON HOLLIS is no exception. they are SIXTY-FOUR, born and raised or just passing through the town. when the sun rises, they work as AN ARTIST & SILVERSMITH, but around here, that rarely tells the whole story. their name has been heard in connection to THE DECKER FAMILY ( affiliated ) and like most in this town, they carry their weight in quiet ways. some say they can be STUBBORN and RESOURCEFUL, depending on whoโs asking and whatโs at stake. theyโve laid claim to BRIAR RIDGE, though ownership in redford is never as simple as it looks. land shifts, loyalties change, and nothing stays untouched for long. lately, their name has been circling for being PRO-PRESERVATION. in a town where legacy matters and progress threatens, the only question that ever really lingers is this: will they hold their ground or lose everything trying?

biography
petraโs first memory was sitting on her motherโs lap and staring at the ruby necklace that adorned her collarbone as it glittered in the hot summer sun. she had been born into one of texasโs greatest mining families and jewellery that was a product of it was not only pretty to look at but a currency. petraโs mother had bought her a pearl necklace for her fifth birthday and is her most valuable piece, despite having only cost a few hundred dollars.
roscoe jackson wanted to send his daughter to a private school just like her brother, but at the behest of their mother petra went to public school and it couldnโt have been more of a relief. she got to enjoy life away from business-talk and busy parents to spend time with other carefree children, learning how the world really worked and learning what she really loved to do in life. and that was art. she would spend almost all of her free time drawing and painting, using the dramatic landscapes around town as inspiration.
petra was fourteen when she took a real interest in jewellery. she started looking through her motherโs collection, observing the colours and the lustres, before delving into books on the subject. she would also interrogate her father about the process of mining and stone cutting, which made him proud even if he knew she had no intentions of joining the family business when she was older. petra quickly became a fan of blue topaz, jasper, amber, and opal, and began to design her own jewellery based around those stones.
after graduating high school, petra set her sights on college and decided on the famous fashion institute of technology in new york city. it wasnโt the first time sheโd been to the city, but it was the first time sheโd spent so long away from home. she settled in well, though, and studied hard, learning all she could about new and old techniques in silversmithing. it was here that she really fell in love with the process and socially blossomed into a person she never thought she would be.
petra returned home and soon became engaged to her high school sweetheart. with his help and the help of her parents, she began to set up her own business which sold her own jewellery and artwork. the townโs people loved the latter in particular as petraโs art featured locations all around town; she was also commissioned by the most popular diner to make landscapes to hand on the walls. everything fell into place after that: two children came along after the wedding and a move to a beautiful ranch-style home.
however, time passed and petraโs business skyrocketed whilst her husband also immersed himself in his work. they grew distant, arguments occurred more, and the constant tension wasnโt fair on their children. divorce was something neither of them wanted, but it had become inevitable. her husband moved out and left petra with their kids in their home, saying it was the right thing to do. even though he was still involved with the children, petra had to step up and be more present. work didnโt overshadow family life anymore and unfortunately that came too late. as the children grew up, business was still steady and overall very positive, but petra was more mom than anything else, which she slowly realised she wouldnโt change for the world.
now that her children are grown up and leading lives of their own, petra has more time for the things sheโs missed and the things sheโs always wanted to do. she spends a lot of time at the decker ranch, taking care of the horses, which is like therapy to her. her son is now running the jackson family business, having taken over from his uncle flint after his death, and her daughter is equally as creative. petra adores spending time with her children and now sheโs even friendly with her ex-husband, maybe a little too friendly. but life is good for her and she hopes she can keep it that way.
wanted connections
โ ex-husband: petra and eddie hollis (first name can be changed!) were high school sweethearts, dating between the ages of 16 and 19, but when they decided they wanted to go to different colleges they realised a long distance relationship wouldnโt work. petra returned home after graduating and her fatherโs present for her was eddie, who came professing his love and intent to marry her. she fell right back into his arms and within two years they were wed, having the most beautiful ceremony and reception on her familyโs estate. by the age of thirty, they had two children and fantastic careers. but it was only a matter of time before it all came crashing downโฆ both of them were too absorbed in their work, never really spending time together and drifting further apart. their love turned into heated arguments and in the blink of an eye there were signed divorce papers and eddie was moving out, leaving the kids with petra. however, as time passed and as life began to slow down, they found themselves missing oneanother and they slowly crept back into each otherโs lives. their relationship is now better than it has been in a long time and part of them still feels a deep love for the other than doesnโt seem to be diminishing. ( his surname must be hollis and is open to any male fc aged 64/65 )
โ son: petraโs son took over the family business when her brother died, so she wouldnโt have to. he took to the role like a duck to water, having a natural flare for negotiation and an extra dash of charm to go with it. heโs not as close to petra as he used to be, but they still love each other nonetheless. he and his sister dine with petra every sunday, which is a tradition thatโs been going since they both left home. ( his surname would be hollis and is open to any suitable fc aged 34 )
โ daughter: petraโs daughter is her one constant in life. sheโs there any time petra is feeling low, needs company, or wants to do something fun. she followed in her motherโs footsteps with her love for art and literature and is an inspiration to petra. she dines with her mother and brother every sunday, too. ( her surname would be hollis unless married and is open to any suitable fc aged 32 )
