Marta Worringer, 16 January 1881, Cologne - 27 October 1965, Munich, German Expressionist painter and graphic artist
After leaving school, Marta began her artistic training privately, initially with Wilhelm Spatz (1861-1931), who was also a professor of painting at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, and in Bern as a private pupil of the painter Cuno Amiet (1868-1961), a member of the Dresden artists' group Brücke, which is regarded in art history as a pioneer of classical modernism. In 1905, Marta went to Munich with Agnes Oster, where they studied at the women's academy of the Munich Artists' Association, founded in 1882. Women only gained free access to art academies after the First World War. Erna Bossi, Käthe Kollwitz, Maria Marc and Gabriele Münter, to name but a few, were among the more famous graduates of the academy.
