the basement of the AUT WW building - to be a space for reflection - a space for students to see and reflect on the internal problems, stresses and anxieties that are hidden in their subconscious.
the rain fall emphasises a shelter, where one can be comforted by the soundscape, visual downfall and atmosphere. the mossy fields in the middle of the installation soften the space, brings it back into the earth, and mirrors the effect that water has on us, as it sinks into our skin. a layer like a blanket, a comfort that feeds us and helps us grow. Water has a strong connection to growth, not just physically or biologically but metaphysically. each droplet holding a sense of understanding and relief.
A space to provoke thought and internal reflection
the water falls and sinks into the moss, feeding it and encouraging its growth – and it sinks into my skin the same. Like a blanket weighing on top of the fields, it lays on my skin comfortably yet heavily, blurring the threshold between the droplets and my body – but its not just the physical feeling of the water grounding me, holding me down, the metaphysical properties of the water opens and clears the mind. With the water holding me down I can allow myself to really think and think and think and let it all go and then think again without worrying about floating away.
