The Mandalorian Redemption | 1.08
Din Djarin has a reputation that precedes him throughout the galaxy for his skill as a fighter. We've seen it often enough throughout the three seasons of The Mandalorian (and a bit of TBOBF) to know that such renown is absolutely warranted.
With this in mind, I am honestly very impressed that The Mandalorian and Grogu managed to show us new levels to his ability (mainly thinking about combat here but we saw it with flying too, he managed to effortlessly slip back into a familiar yet still different ship that he hadn't flown for a while anyway like it was nothing...)
The opening sequence with the AT-ATs was very impressive... but I feel like we've already seen plenty of examples of him fighting his way through hordes of people like it's nothing. What impressed me more was his ingenuity and quick-thinking when facing challenges where he should have been massively disadvantaged.
Several times we saw him placed in situations where he needed to fight without his usual arsenal. Such as on Shakari when he was knocked out by the gas, awoke to find that he had been disarmed and then had to fight not only Rotta the Hutt but all the other creatures which were sprung upon them. He managed all of this with unfamiliar weapons.
Also, when he was captured on Nevarro and taken to Nal Hutta by Embo, he had nothing but his armour, and he wouldn't even have the protection of that for long once he met The Twins. Still, he managed to fight the creatures in the water without his helmet by using the resources available to him (the deeper part of the water to hide and the tree for shelter). Yeah, he did get wounded... but honestly? Unsurprising when you see that thing.
Then, after he had recovered, he had to re-arm himself to storm the residence of The Twins, again with unfamiliar weapons. I love how he used the ship and speeder during the initial attack for the element of surprise, resourceful king!
Just all-round a very impressive demonstration of the array of combat skills he possesses and the sharpness of his mind. What a man.
I desperately want there to be at least one episode of the mandalorian that shows him during his apprenticeship, or when he first started out as a bounty hunter.
Spoilers for the Mandalorian and Grogu movie below
Wdym Din Djarin casually destroyed the Hutts, a criminal dynasty that‘s been in control of criminal operations across the galaxy for forever? All while taking a supposed “break” from his work??
(I know it wasn’t casual like that, and he would’ve died if it wasn’t for Grogu. My point is, I love this guy and he’s awesome and not to be messed with.)
there is something incredibly moving about din keeping two blurrgs on the very planet where kuiil sacrificed his life as he attempted to protect grogu from falling into the hands of the empire. i'm sure that din could never forget the ugnaught's sacrifice, and my headcanon is that is din keeps the blurrgs at his cabin on nevarro as a tribute to his fallen friend kuiil, who played such a pivotal role in his and grogu's story. a poignant little detail that is blink and you'll miss it, but it's one of my very favourite moments of the entire film.
din djarin’s cool as fuck, and he knows it, and the whole movie is just him serving
i really love how much emphasis the mandalorian and grogu placed upon how kind din djarin is.
is he an incredible fighter? yes... it was cool to see him kicking ass on the big screen.
but more than that, i really appreciated his interactions with the anzellans how empathetic he was to rotta and of course how patient and loving he was with grogu. i loved how it was highlighted that din is actually kind of averse to violence, and mostly views it as a last resort that should only be turned to when talking doesn't work. that is one of the things i adore most about his character.
he's a walking beskar-played contradiction. he appears like a terrifying mandalorian warrior to the rest of the galaxy, but underneath that steel is a heart of gold. that part of him means so much to me, and i'm so glad it was present as he took the leap to the big screen!

It is very important to see it on the big screen of course! But I mostly noticed it on the third season of The Mandalorian and especially on his episodes on Book of Boba Fett which I loved for that very reason. He is a very dedicated Mandalorian and of course engages in combat like the expert that he is but he's also very kind and loyal and these are the qualities that lead him to change the Mandalorian's mind and regroup both sides and have them reclaim Mandalore. I think this is why it remains one of the most loved modern Star Wars shows despite its weaknesses 🫶

I’ve been avoiding the movie theater and haven’t seen the movie yet, but this post makes me really want to make an exception. Duality is one of my favorite qualities in Din - equally capable of kindness as brutality. I love to hear the movie is highlighting those positive aspects of his personality.

I also think it’s worth noting that S1E1 the bounty begs for freedom and din refuses. By season 3, he’s starting to realize that not every bounty is a criminal running from the law, some are escaping abusive or constricting lives where they have no freedom (thinking of the prince that ran away so he could marry against his parents wishes) and now we have the movie where as soon as Rotta started talking about the horrible abuse he suffered and how much he wanted to distance himself from his father and make a name for himself, din got to put this compassion and empathy to use.

din djarin is a fun character To Me bc he has the attitude of a deeply disinterested, exhausted retail worker except his job isnt standing behind a desk, it’s being john wick in space
Leía and Din interactions in fics are always so funny to me because there will never be a more perfect matchup than Leia “I learned diplomacy at age two and I’ve been a politician since I was still in my mother’s womb, address me with the proper respect and maybe I won’t manipulate you JUST as much” Organa and Din “I grew up ina sewer, my diplomacy is self-taught battle negotiation, and I wouldn’t know decorum or politics if it hit me in the face” Djarin
It’s even FUNNIER when one of them is a politician and the other is the fucking ACCIDENTAL KING OF A PLANET
Leia, already expecting yet another sleazy politician: *fake smile* it is an honor to meet you, Mand’alor
Din, glancing up from doodling grogu’s face on a bunch of paperwork: uh. It’s an honor to meet you as well, Miss . . . senator
Leia:
Din: *glances at Bo-katan* was that wrong? Am I supposed to bow or something
Leia, mentally rewriting all of her strategies: no you’re fine. Also, I now understand why your guards are so protective of you. We must not ever let you be corrupted by the horrors of the senate
Din: . . . Aren’t you part of the senate?
Leia: yeah
"father. I have a bomb."
The fact that Din Djarin, hardened Mandalorian warrior and bounty hunter, in the middle of a fight to the death against a gigantic venomous water snake that wanted nothing more than to eat him... Took one look at his son holding a grenade and that's what made Din react with "... Dank ferrick..."
Just thinking about it makes me cackle 😂😂😂
Din is such a daddy and knows his little gremlin so well! 😍🥹
(Also have to say I'm not a parent yet, but my heart also kinda stopped when I saw Grogu packing up grenades to take on the trip to rescue his daddy 😅)
