//ooc: Out of town
//Headed out of town tomorrow, will be back Monday. Just letting you all know.
「PAIR OFF」 - Cap & Stark - Latveria or Bust
“Ah. The fairytales of a life of privilege disproven… I’m sorry for your hardships. Your father was a man to be admired - it’s unfortunate his companions weren’t as ethical,” Steve said quietly. Robert Stark had been a man that Steve had respected for a short time, and had also frightened him a little with what he was capable of. And to see that the weaponry of his company had become the focus was disappointing. But to see the damage it had done to his son was regrettable, and Steve wished there was something he could do to make things up for the boy turned man.
Steve had just been formulating an answer to Tony’s remarks about death and torture when something on his person beeped, and he looked startled at Tony’s waist, and listened carefully to the flurry of words coming from Tony. ”Why am I not surprised that you’re questioning your orders, Stark? We’re part of this team, and recognisable or not, it’s our duty to follow those orders. And I at least know how to be diplomatic, should something go wrong - and from the footage I’ve seen, you know how to be a people pleaser, and seduce people out of being angry at you,” he stated, perhaps a little sarcastically. After a short beat, he looked at the beeping object in Tony’s hand and then back up to him. “And if we are being set up, we can both hold our own, but you have to promise that I’ll be able to trust you, and you won’t just go off on your own, Stark. We have to be a team.”
Tony raised an eyebrow at that and started to reply when the light turned from green to red. Anything he might have said to the soldier died on his lips. It would take more than five minutes to explain to the man how things have changed since WWII, how generations have learned how the government has earned their distrust time and again.
"Yeah Rogers, just like Rocky and Bullwinkle." Tony said with a quirk of the lip, fading to disappointment as the reference was missed. "Okay, I guess our first hour of this flight is going to be learning about a certain Moose and Squirrel."
As always, the charming facade clamped down, there would be time enough to worry about why they were chosen for this mission and what it entailed later. Soon enough the rolling hills and dark forest of Eastern Europe would be beneath them, and it would be time to put on the show.
Me: Not to mention that you like bossing people around....at at least you seem to like bossing me around.
Cas: thinks you're hilarious. And yes, I enjoy bossing you around.

“The highlights - you mean the actual highlights, or your highlights?” he asked, a little disbelieving, taking his seat and strapping himself in. “Doom and Richards do seem to have quite a history together, though I’ll bet it would have more effect to tell him Mrs. Richards is behind him. Reed told me they fought over her in college,” he continued, chuckling a little about the silent film quip. “Considering most of all this was still in science fiction books when I was .. well. Alive, I can guess that things have changed quite a bit.”
It wasn’t that he wasn’t curious about the changes and progress in film and music, but the things he had seen thanks to Clint didn’t give him a lot of hope in actual positive progress. His attention was brought back to Tony at his question, and he blinked a few times, looking at the other man. “Yeah.. Yes, I do. Things were more difficult back then, but there was more morale back then, more … Gumption. People knew what they stood for, they wanted to fight for what they wanted, and there was.. There was a pride of country back then, that I see very little of now,” he said quietly, thinking back to the interactions with civilians. Most people that he’d met had themselves in primary focus, instead of the betterment of themselves, a love of hard work, and a deep sense of patriotism. Perhaps he was because he’d grown up in war-torn, depressed America, but compared to the greed and selfishness he saw in general, he missed his old life very much. “Do you have anything you miss? I mean.. Anything before all this?”
"Not really. Before this I was being swindled out of my own company by a man who I trusted like my father and telling lies carefully crafted by the best PR managers money could buy, just so I could smile at the cameras and go tinker with something of my own." Tony shrugged.
Tony smiled as the Helicarrier began to fade into the distance. "Well, maybe not knowing that I could die." He paused. "Also the not having been tortured part, I could have done without that."
A loud beep emerged from Tony's pocket and he pulled out a small plastic box which flashed green. "Okay, so you ever have a detective story on the talkies or the radio where someone's got a tape recorder and gets the confession? Well, this little beauty just told me that it's blocking the whole slew of little tape recorders in this cabin and filling them with inane conversation and looped pictures of us, we have about five minutes before it starts to get dangerous and this fine aircraft decides that this is a problem and starts calling for help like a little lost lamb that just realized that it got on a schoolbus full of wolves."
"You're a military man cap. Why is Fury sending his two most recognizable and least subtle agents, aside perhaps from big green and ugly, on a covert op to a foreign country and telling them not to cause an international incident. I mean, you brought your uniform right, still red white and blue all over? There's a bunch of master class spies and assassins in the bunch and he sends the two most high profile people he can."
"Either there's something Fury knows that we don't know, or we're being set up for something. I'm not saying we should go AWOL or bash up his office but that's what I'm seeing, Also, you have about three minutes left."

「PAIR OFF」 - Cap & Stark - Latveria or Bust
“Perhaps. But I wouldn’t go down without a fight, and I would hope that I would have my team behind me as well,” said Steve softly, thinking that it was very likely someone could come after him. It wouldn’t’ve been the first time someone had come after the serum coursing through his body, trying to take it out of him, and use it to make more soldiers, or just recreate the muscular structure. “So we’ll leave if Doom shows up. Good to know it’ll be that simple,” joked Steve, taking his seat as Tony spoke. “What? All of that in.. Good grief. Technology has certainly come a long way, if sixty years can fit in that little thing,” he said, taking it from Tony to look at it. “Chaplin was a genius, but I’ll grant you that perhaps there have been others who’ve learned from him. And as long as there aren’t any movies like American Pie on that, I’ll be fine,” he said, shuddering at the memory of the movie night with Clint, and his attempts to educate him in film in the past few decades.
"Not the whole 60 years, just the highlights." Stark began to warm the craft up for takeoff. "And if all else fails we tell Doom that Reed Richards is standing behind him, that should do the trick."
"Just trust me, things have come a long way since silent movies." Despite everything, Tony was looking forward to the flight. If only to cut off any indoctrination that the others might be working on. They would need to ease into it he was sure, a need to build up an appreciation for how things developed. Jumping right into Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden would probably be too much of a shock. Better to start off with some Elvis, perhaps some Johnny Cash.
"Do you miss it?" Tony asked suddenly, his train of thought taking a strange turn. He turned towards Steve, raising an eyebrow. "I mean, aside from the obvious family and friends bit, do you miss your time?"
// He WAS deaf…and blind at a different point in time…for a while. And in a possible future, he’s a blind badass that can still kick your ass and hit you right between the eyes from over 100 yards away without missing.
Clint Barton is amazing, guys, seriously.
//Even though Old Man Logan had its problems, I still like the idea of old cranky Hawkeye and Wolverine on a roadtrip across America in the Spider buggy.
What would you choose?
