Lucas watched as Jaime slowly made his way over, and just … took a seat next to him. He stared at him for a moment, almost as if he was offended by (and definitely distracted by) the close proximity but eventually turned back to his laptop with an annoyed shake of his head. Fine. He didn’t care. This was fine. Even if he hated when people stared over his shoulder at whatever he was working on. It was fine. He didn’t care.
“I’m getting in contact with some of the science research facilities in the area – Uh, the Boston area – so I can check on any paid job opportunities I might be able to take while in school next year.” Lucas said, glancing over to look at Jaime. “A lot of students are taking internships which are … not paid. And while you might not be aware of this, that isn’t realistic for some people. So, I’m asking some people that I’ve been in contact with before and expressed an interest in getting to know me if we can work something out.” He glanced down at the drawing tablet in Jaime’s hands. “What are you doing?”
He nodded his head while he listened to Lucas speak, and explain what he was doing to get ready for the next year of college. That made sense, of course. If Jaime knew Lucas he likely had about fifty things lined up to be able to survive and thrive. However he couldn't help but roll his eyes at the slight jab towards him. "It might be surprising to know but I'm completely aware that unpaid internships are an unfair step up for children who come from money. I'm not completely an idiot, I hope you know." Jaime was pretty sure Lucas did know, and just liked to make comments.
Whatever. He got it. Eat the rich and all that, more power to him.
"Oh, I'm just warming up." Jaime said, pulling his tablet pen out. "I want to work on my landscapes. And I remembered ... Well, if there is anywhere that has some really great scenery I grew up there. If you stay still long enough I might even add you," Jaime teased. Was that a promise or a threat? Maybe a little bit of both.
