okay but I genuinely do think the transphobia is a set up for something further into the series. The writers, while not perfect, would not put something so blatantly wrong in for no reason. Especially since the scene felt awkward as a whole because of it. I don't blame anyone criticizing it and if I'm wrong I'll be pissed too but I'm trusting the process
this isn’t a personal attack on you, but i have to ask, what good could possibly come of this? we get to watch the vampire lestat learn the value of respecting pronouns? to me that sounds goofy and clunky and beside the point, especially considering the problems with that scene go beyond the misgendering.
whatever happens later in the season, the writers have chosen to treat the presence of a transgender person in a public bathroom as a salacious spectacle while also misgendering them. sadly idk if there’s any saving this.
you're chill, I like discussion. I have a few thoughts.
Honestly, I believe it's to make Lestat look like a jerk. He likes thinking of himself as a subversive queer icon, but doesn't really care or think about others. He acknowledges that it's respectful to call Russ by the correct pronouns, but then goes on to misgender them in his thoughts. It is the way a lot of cis queer people engage with the lgbt community.
There's also not really a reason to believe that the writers are actively being transphobic. In fact they have gone out of their way to make it explicitly queer despite AMC's whole deal. It's more likely to me that they're portraying transphobia
