“There you go, Little Green! Those were some good moves! If you do that, I betcha you’d survive any youkai attack. Getting scared is great exercise too, we’ll make sure you grow up big and strong!”

“Bweh~!!”

“Whoa-ho! Look at all these little tykes! I bet with some many kids popping up, I can even restart my babysitting business again. Ooh, I can’t wait!”

“Don’t underestimate what is possible for a human to accomplish with a strong enough bloodline and enough training.”

What this girl said, even if only partially true worried the old woman.  Youkai, as awful as they usually are, were an essential part of the balance of Gensokyo.  She needed to know more.

“Humans not scarred of youkai anymore?  Can you not just go hunt, terrorize and kill some foolish human who’s strayed too far from the village or one that Yukari has brought in from the outside?”

“Sure, that’s still a thing. But now humans are finding champions and whatnot who break the noses--or would in your day--of any youkai that wants to dig in and have a good meal out of a villager--ah, those outsiders are fair game still. So now most humans aren’t nearly as scared of us as they used to be. It’s gotten to the point that I even babysit kids now and again.”

Babysits out of her volition and want to be useful.

“Like just the other day, I cornered a human and tried to scare him so I could eat. He just laughed at me! Can you believe that? It really hurt my feelings.”

That her reputation had lasted was more than a little gratifying to the old miko.  She had been worried that Reimu’s lighter and softer touch would have caused a loss of respect for the Hakurei, it would seem that was not the entirely the case.  Old habits would reassert themselves, and before she knew what she was doing, the woman would lean in over the tsukumogami, an insincere smile on her face.

“If you remember that long ago, then you can probably guess what the answer is.  Perhaps, you could answer a question as well.  Like what you youkai have been up to during Reimu’s tenure.”

“What? Did you fight your way out of death? That’s not even possible! You might as well be youkai if you did.”

Kogasa puts distance between her and the aggressive miko with a few steps backwards. 

“I’ve been doing nothing, if you’re really that curious. There’s nothing I can do, nowadays. Humans aren’t scared by youkai anymore and it’s just wrong!”

See this made sense.  A youkai freaking out at her mere sight.  Well, sort of made sense.   How did this one know who she was?  The clothing maybe?

“I’m not going to kill you.  Reimu’s rule’s wouldn’t allow it.”

“Bull! I’m old enough to remember that face of yours, you monster of a shrine maiden! In fact, I even remember you dying! How’d you get back here? Are you some kinda ghost now? A god?! I’m too young to die!”

-Esoterica "Gray Thaumaturgy"-! Kogasa gets some bright starry danmaku. It's pretty tame compared to what Sanae might usually greet her with, but she still seems as cheery as ever. (transientperson)

“I-I’m too young to be exterminated!”–is the karakasa obake’s reaction as she hears the familiar voice and sees the all too familiar light show of a certain someone’s danmaku. And how could she not have this reaction? All run ins with this miko have ended up with Kogasa being physically or emotionally hurt! It’s not fair!
