bingewatching will never come close to bingereading. there is nothing like blocking out the entire Earth for ten hours to read a book in one sitting no food no water no shower no bra and emerging at the end with no idea what time it is or where you are, a dried-up prune that's sensitive to light and loud noises because you've been in your room in the dark reading by the glow of a single LED. it's like coming back after a three-month vacation in another dimension and now you have to go downstairs and make dinner. absolutely transcendental
earlier my husband opened our snack cabinet and something fell out and he put it back and then a second later i heard him say very quietly “no, it chose me” and then he took it and walked away
I used to have those glow-in-the-dark stars in my bedroom, and honestly part of me is thinking of bringing them back so I can see where the light switch or door is in the dark. 😆

A dinosaur obsessed 12 year old studied fossils and found a 69 million year old hadrosaur skeleton embedded in rock while hiking. A fisherman in Australia noticed tiny shrimp in his net that looked slightly different from the others and he sent a few specimens to biologists for testing. Turned out to be a never before described species, going unnoticed in a popular lake. I posted a pic ~here on tumblr~ of a weird parasite on a dead fish and a parasitologist found it and asked to report it as the species has never been seen in my area before.
There is so, so much out there we literally don’t even know. And the best way to find that stuff out is to be intensely curious about everything you see. You might not discover a new species but you absolutely will gain a deeper appreciation for the world around you.

This or nothing
obsessed with how fixable society is, on a structural level.
obsessed with how all you need to do is throw money at public education and eliminate most standardized testing and you will start getting smarter, more engaged, kinder adults. obsessed with how giving people safe housing, reliable access to good food, and decent wages dramatically reduces drug overdoses and gun violence. obsessed with how much people actually want to get together and fix infrastructure, invent new ways of helping each other, and create global ways of living sustainably once you give them livable pay to do so. obsessed with how tracking diseases, developing medicines, and improving public health becomes so much easier when you just make healthcare free at point of use.
obsessed with how easy it all becomes, if we can just figure out how to wrench the wealth out of the hands of the hoarders.

1. Sit for a meditation. 2. Make a cup of tea. 3. Smile at a stranger. 4. Give spare change/food to the next homeless person you see. 5. Put on your current jam and dance. 6. Think of someone you are grateful for and then tell them. 7. Pray. 8. Do a yoga sesh. 9. Light some incense and dedicate its fragrance to making the world more beautiful. 10. Laugh until it’s real. 11. Eat something nourishing. 12. Take a luxurious bath and tell the outside world to fuck off for a little while. 13. Watch a documentary. 14. Read some of a book. 15. Write a poem about this moment. 16. Go for a walk and find a nifty rock. 17. Learn an origami trick you can do with a dollar bill. 18. Practice reiki. 19. Draw a tarot card. 20. Clean your room. 21. Take a thorough exhale and deep inhale. 22. Apologize to yourself for something. 23. Thank yourself for something. 24. Start a journal or write in your journal. 25. Take a nap.
