she almost laughs, just because the thought of tai and asher being friends is completely ridiculous, but she's too upset to find humor in anything, just shaking her head, a scowl on her face. mikayla knows her excuse hardly makes sense, but it's hard to think of anything better when all she can think is that it's not fucking fair. she slouches against the counter, resting her elbows on the surface and letting her face fall into her hands, fingertips sliding into her hair. it's a mistake, because it only makes her more tempted to cry, but she refuses to be that vulnerable in front of everyone else, especially a fucking coworker, so she takes a deep breath, lifting her head. “ it doesn't matter why, ” she mumbles, mostly because she can't even think of an explanation for it other than the truth. “ there's just no fucking way her and olivia are going to get along. ” that might not be true, but she wants to believe it, because the thought of tai moving on so easily makes her sick, even if it's what she deserves.
it clearly does matter why. it seems to be the only thing that matters, because audrey’s already decided that whatever happened between her and taissa is the reason for the mikayla’s recently intensified rage. “okay…” she mumbles anyway, assuming it’s best not to push. she assumes she knows why, anyway—and if she’s right, mikayla’s obviously not going to tell her that. “seemed kind of awkward to me,” she says, mostly just trying to make mikayla feel better, and some part of her thinking that may actually be true. “like, they came to a movie so they didn’t have to pretend they know what to talk to each other about if they had to,” she says, letting out a small scoff. “—didn’t realize olivia was, like, the devil. i thought you hung out with her?” she asks, though she doesn’t really know anything— she mostly avoids crowds like mikayla and asher’s at school, anyway.
