drop the recipie..... 👀?
I was NOT expecting Sports Drink Bread to be good, let alone for folks to want a recipe, otherwise I would have taken more care to record the process!
Here are the rough steps, though:
1. You’re gonna want approximately 2-3 parts flour, 1 part warm sports drink (pop that bad boy in the microwave until it’s like comfortable bath water), and a sprinkling of yeast. I just eyeballed the yeast because I’m a madwoman and I wasn’t actually expecting this to work??
2. Mix all that together at the same time, with your hands! You wanna fold it in on itself until it stops sticking to you! If it’s still sticky and you’ve been mixing for a bit, sprinkle a little more flour. It’s better to have to keep adding little bits of flour than to add too much! No need to rush here.
3. Let it sit somewhere warm and forget that it exists for an indeterminate amount of time! I set mine near the wall heater and left it for an hour? maybe two? You just want it to get fluffy.
4. Knead/punch it down! You wanna push down and out, you’re stretching all the lil gluten fibers in the dough and making sure everything’s nice and even! You’ll also wanna shape it, too, if you want.
5. Set that puppy on a baking sheet! You should dust the sheet with flour or oil it, or else your bread’s gonna stick to the bottom and that’s no fun to clean :(
6. Set it somewhere warm and forget about it for another indeterminate amount of time! I think I left it out for about half an hour? Maybe a full hour? Time is an illusion but you just want the bread to get puffy again!
7. Preheat the oven to 350 F! Wait until it’s hot, if you put the bread in while it’s still heating up it won’t cook quite right.
8. Slice the top!! You wanna cut deep with a sharp knife, so the bits in the middle get a chance to cook and expand!
9. Put ‘er in the oven and wait! I don’t remember how long it took, maybe half an hour? Check in on it every now and then and take it out when the crust looks brown and crispy! If you’re using fruit punch flavored gatorade, your house is going to smell Very Strange while it bakes. I’m sorry.
10. Wait until it’s cool enough to hold, THEN tear into it and enjoy!!
