A splinter in a wall
2018
Utilising a logic that is sensory and compulsively circular, elevating found debris into a self-fulfilling functionality. A hook, a latch, concrete rubble; objects are collected instinctively. Obtained separate and displaced, they hold one-another; their references are both preserved and recontextualised. These materials contain an agency in their relationship to each other and the site, the relationship is both logical and visceral within its logic. A poetic satisfaction through recognition occurs. Works become charms extending from the architecture, sitting in a charged, humming loop that is encapsulated within each form. Structures support themselves, held in a tense, connected space of being and becoming.

Using the google mail app (a tool that is commonly associated with the corporate world) the content shared between the pair becomes legitimised. Through appropriating the formalities of the Gmail application; in this case the automatic reply algorithm/feature, this other entity becomes entangled within the conversation we share and a mediator for our collaborative engagement.
The algorithm interprets the emails and suggests a reply; “Cool, thanks!”, it one day says, and “I miss you” the next. Giving a sense that we are being quietly and politely observed by this algorithmic outsider, as it attempts to intercept the conversation, this intrusion validates the method of our collaborative practice; holding our conversations accountable to this third-party. Thus becoming a collective work between Liv, Emma and the Gmail Robot.
