So do it. Decide. Is this the life you want to live? Is this the person you want to love? Is this the best you can be? Can you be stronger? Kinder? More compassionate? Decide. Breathe in. Breathe out. And decide.

Iâve lived through some terrible things in my life, some of which actually happened.

I was always hungry for love. Just once, I wanted to know what it was like to get my fill of it â to be fed so much love I couldnât take any more. Just once. Haruki MurakamiÂ
You are the sum total of everything youâve ever seen, heard, eaten, smelled, been told, forgot - itâs all there. Everything influences each of us, and because of that I try to make sure that my experiences are positive. Maya Angelou
âYou have to accept that sometimes thatâs how things happen in this world. Peopleâs opinions, their feelings, they go one way, then the other. It just so happens you grew up at a certain point in this process.â
Just because two people donât wind up spending their entire lives together doesnât mean their relationship was a failure.

I think that many healthy people are pretty clueless about how devastating obtaining medical care in the United States really is. We all know that it is expensive, but when I say âexpensive,â I actually mean âentirely unfeasible for many Americans.â I didnât really understand either until I went from being a healthy kid to being in the PICU overnight, only to leave with hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical debt before my 17th birthday (and I was fortunate enough to have insurance!). I cannot begin to describe the impact this has had on my life. Iâm saying this because thereâs a lot of insensitivity going around about sick people who canât afford care⌠about how they are just âlazyâ and want a handout, or how if theyâd just get a job, they might be able to pay their medical bills without destroying their lives. Frankly, itâs bullshit.
In a system like ours where care is SO outrageous, and where health insurance is a necessity to make these costs even remotely feasible, itâs not just a simple personal failing due to laziness when someone canât afford care. Particularly in light of what is going on with the ACA, there are going to be a lot of people voicing their very cruel and frankly incorrect opinion that people who canât afford healthcare are just lazy mooches who donât want to get a job. A little bit of sensitivity for such a complex issue would be nice. While thereâs plenty that needs to be criticized and targeted about US healthcare, the patients struggling to get life-saving treatments arenât it, and doing so just diverts attention away from the fact that US âmedicineâ has become a joke. And Iâm saying this as someone in the thick of it, as both a chronically ill patient and a student doctor.
Literature is the most agreeable way of ignoring life.

Iâm afraid of love, because it involves things that are beyond our understanding; it sheds such a brilliant light, but the shadow it casts frightens me.

Were so fucked
holy fuck you guysÂ
after years of being vaguely confused when I came across the measurement âa stick of butterâ in recipes, today I learned that in the United States they sell butter in these skinny stick things:
it is literally a stick of butter. A STICK OF BUTTER.Â
i have literally never seen butter sold this way. each stick one only amounts to ½ a cup of butter AMERICANS PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT MY WHOLE LIFE WHEN I SAW THE PHRASE âA STICK OF BUTTERâ IN RECIPES I WAS IMAGINING THIS:
THIS IS THE ONLYÂ âSTICKâ IâD EVER SEEN BUTTER SOLD IN. I THOUGHT YâALL WERE THROWING FUCKINâ POUNDS UPON POUNDS OF BUTTER INTO THINGS HOLY JESUS THE WORLD MAKES SO MUCH MORE SENSE NOW FUCKIN CHRIST.Â
I love little foreign confusion things like this
Do you ever just wonder why you get so captivated by someone, and then eventually get frustrated because you realize how much of a hold that person actually has on you? Like, how does someone possess that much power? How is that even humanely possible?
