Michael grunted and gave a light shake of his head as he rose the wet cobblestone bricks, his hand smearing across his face in a vain attempt to wipe away the blood and rain.

The fight had been unexpected, but he never went down easily. His brow was busted, the eye underneath beginning to bruise and swell along with his cheeks. One hand on his ribs the other measuring the damage over what he couldn't hide with clothing.

He ran a finger over his bleeding lips and into his mouth, checking for any missing or broken teeth and relieved not to find any this time around. After a quick shake of his head again he turned back towards the street to leave for home.

A flash of lightning and a clap of thunder.

There he stood, bloody, beaten, and defeated in the pouring rain, but just now facing the worst blow yet.
