malls are dying because they don't have blacksmith, apothecary, alehouse or peddler's
We must create dungeons that expand for miles under the earth and malls are the hub areas where warriors gather to venture deep beanth the surface for treasures yet discovered. It's the only way to save the economy.

Anyway let’s not pretend like we don’t love the fact that there are still some big predators that can fuck us up. Lions and wolves and crocodiles and sharks wouldn’t have nearly the cultural impact they do if we weren’t in awe of their capacity to bite our heads off. So yeah this is my top ten list of modern predators (within some reasonable limitations of physics) that I wish were also big enough that we ever have to beware them:
Axolotls
Caecilians
Budgetts frogs
Bobbit worms
Jackson’s chameleons
Mexican mole lizards
Literally any gastropod
Solenodons
MUDSKIPPERS, how amazing would that be, don’t tell me you wouldn’t love to live in a world where one day you get to hear the viral news story of like a big game hunter who ignored the clear warnings of his indigenous safari guide and got eaten to death by goddamn mudskippers
The rotifer genus Collothecidae
You’ve left off one incredibly important addition personally, in my opinion.
Hydra!
I was foolish to limit my list to ten. Because of this and also because of the Leopard Gecko and Seahorse suggestions. I would also like to propose the potoo bird and some kind of bat.
I didn’t include any giant predatory insects or arachnids because they’d have so much difficulty functioning in the current state of our planet. Even the animals I mention would probably have pretty different proportions and lifestyles if they really evolved the size of a hippo as it is. I have however already talked in the past about how I wish we had a reasonably large bloodsucking insect. Not a deadly one, not a disease carrier, just something that pesters livestock and bites unwary humans only just often enough to inspire the kind of fear and awe we have of vampire bats, yeah? I can’t find my old post about it anymore but I’d want it to be one of these, a lousefly:
But the size of one of these, a giant weta cricket:
The lousefly’s hairs are an adaptation for moving through fur, but scaled up, I think they’d continue to be useful as defensive spines to deter predatory mammals. To sustain on blood their metabolism would have to slow way down compared to other flies, but larger arachnids can already go months between meals. Before you say you wouldn’t want to live in any timeline with giant vampire porcupine bugs at LEAST think of the cool ways we’d have probably integrated them into mythology, horror fiction, Halloween, Tokusatsu villains and monster games. Just about anything really. A Sonic the Hedgehog villain. A Disney movie’s cast of singing animals. Think about it!!!
