“…Yeah, sure. If we had more time, I’ll humor you, but we don’t. So, here.” Time was nipping at their heels and Mercer stood his ground and insisted. Pressed the device towards him and curled his fingers more towards himself. 

He pinched the edge of it so ‘Cybernetics’ didn’t have to come in contact with him if that was his primary concern.

He fell silent, closing his eyes for a moment before withdrawing to sit near the window. “Yeah, I guess I did.”

Alive? He didn’t know how to address it, so he didn’t. “…Get you out of here.”

Fear induced a spurt of energy that sprung him off the wall and hurtling straight towards the busy street. He evaded the missile between the eyes but no Hail Mary softened the haphazard barrage of bullets his back received upon decent.

The persistent infiltration of ’priority target’ from every goddamn comm flooded his skull and Alex, swathed within the smoke of the fire and debris and every other shit that suffocated the air, took the leap of faith toward alley way swept with city stink.

It was tricky, they were starting to set up tracking posts in every crevice of the city, aiming to fish him out, and it put him on edge. Granted, he had the arsenal to evade it all, to some degree, but what unnerved him was how much they were learning from him. They must have an observer of sorts. Drones maybe?

Suddenly a secondary scent wafted in his senses and he paused. A human girl, flesh and fragile, came stumbling in the midst of chaos that would follow him if he didn't get out of here.

What the fuck?

Questions came to him but he shook himself out of his ravine. He didn’t have time to gawk. Swallowing thickly, he came to her, a subtle urgency in his tone. “Listen, you shouldn't be here. I..we need to get out of here.”

 headcanons 

Dr. Mercer only cared for himself ( body/mind ) and hardly cared for another ( to some degree the subject of sister is a different story - I have yet to fully delve into that one. ) He hated people and used them. Alex is the opposite. He cares more for people than he does for himself. Even if they hate him and spit on him, he fights tooth and nail for them. In a sense, he feels like he owes them, especially because he’s the cause of their affliction, even if it was caused by the hands of another.
