Have you ever wondered about that little kart necklace that Michael wore all the time?

While reading Michael's 1994 biography by Timothy Collings, I came across its origin story. For context, Mr Dilk refers to Jurgen Dilk. He was the father of one of Michael's friends, Guido, and did a lot for Michael in his early years in karting and single-seaters, sponsoring him when Michael would have otherwise had to give up racing, and accompanying him to the races. He basically acted like a second father, since Rolf didn't really attend the races.

So the necklace was part of a matching set with Mr Dilk!

A little more trivia: after the driver Stefan Bellof died, Dilk got scared for Michael and wanted him to quit racing. Of course Michael didn't quit, and instead begged Dilk to keep accompanying him and to come to his first single-seater test. Dilk was late, and when he got there Michael was down because he thought he wasn't coming. Dilk was also the president of Michael's fanclub.

Once Michael made it to F1, Dilk still went to races to show his support.

Michael wore the necklace for years, and most recently it's been worn by his son Mick!

Seeing Mick wear it was already very sweet, but knowing that little kart's story makes it even sweeter :')
