okok. i disappeared to start moving house, but iâm back. which means plot with me.
octavia had been busy building whateverâs left as the numbers of people grew higher. sheâd been one of the few people who took it easy on them, knowing how it was for her. she rolled her eyes, as she headed over to pick up the branch that was laying on the ground. ââ do you really think someone losing it is exciting? youâve been through it. weâve all been through it. cut him some slack.â the brunette mumbled.
Sighing deeply, Kyle turned, not surprised to find Octavia being the source of the disagreement. âHell of a lot better entertainment than anything else weâve got here.â He said lazily, shoving his hands deep into his pocket and leaning back on the heels of his feet. âNot everyone cries like a shuck baby -- I sure didnât.â It was a point of bragging for him, always had been. âYou know -- since youâre so determined to protect the greenie, I might make it a point to push him over the edge.â
A small smile appeared on her face since it was funny how the Greenie was freaking out about what was happening. She shrugged answering his first question and then nodded agreeing.Â
âOpen your shuck mouth, Abi, youâre not a mute.â He spat. Nothing annoyed him more than silence in return for his own words. â-- Better make sure you keep up tomorrow, Iâd hate to take your food and lose you in there.â
Avalon gave one last look to the Greenie before responding to the boy, thinking of when she first came here. The first day is the worst. Youâre so confused, lost and you just want answers. But the answers you really want canât be given. The second day of being in the Glade, Avalon told herself that they had probably seen it all before and that she wouldnât want to be an annoyance to everyone. So she hid her true thoughts about the situation and turned into the person she had strong feeling she was even before coming into the Glade. Maybe worse. â âM sure heâll figure it out on his own. â Avalon finally said, getting out of her own thoughts, looking up at Kyle. â Itâd probably be best that he slim it by nightfall or he will have a lot of people be angry with him tomorrow. â She held back from rolling her eyes at his lunch statement,  folding her arms instead. â Thereâs no bloody way Iâm betting my lunch on this. â
âHe might---â He said slowly Eight years heâd been there, coming up to the anniversary of his trip up the shoot. However, heâd never been like that. Heâd kept to himself, sure enough, watching everything he could find with his eyes, waiting for something more to happen. When nothing else did, he simply assimilated. âOr he wonât.â The corner of his lip turned up, having a new greenie around only meant he had one more person to torment, one more person to screw with. âAnd what a shame that would be. Letâs hope the grievers donât make too much noise. Itâs be just awful for him to have to hear that on his first night...â Brow arching, he folded his arms, turning to face Avalon completely now. âOh? Whatâre you willing to bet then?â
.
Clearly annoyed, Brooklyn stood from her spot, the flowers still firmly in her hands. âWell, Iâm sorry I offended you, shuckface.â She scoffed, her words filled with venom. Walking closer to Kyle, she shoved the plants to his chest. âBetter now?âÂ
Amusement building in his stomach at the girls clear annoyance, Kyle simply smirked at her as she stood, the smug look on his face never fading. âYou know, I really donât think that you are.â He replied, his own tone teasing and sarcastic. Barely moving as her hand flew out, her knuckles and the flowers brushing against his chest, he lifted a hand and took them, dropping them to the ground and crushing them beneath his foot. âMuch.â
Her eyebrows crinkled down at the sight. The Gladers liked to play around with Greenies â not only were they knew, but a source of entertainment, and she would be lying if she didnât play around with them. âNot betting,â she said with a shake of her head. âIâm a growing girl, I need my nutrients. Plus, I think Kisa or Luc would get to him first before he loses it.â
Brow arched, Kyle shot a small glare down at the younger girl, âYou sure youâre growing? âThink the food mightâa stunted you a little bit.â Rolling his eyes at the mention of their leaders, he let out a heaving sigh, âEveryone loses it, Kisa and Luc donât make a difference.â
Jenna crossed her arms in front of her chest as she watched the scene before her, the faintest chuckle passing her lips. This happened almost every month, and she had passed the stage of being annoyed by it. Now, it was only amusing to her. âDeal,â She nodded towards Kyle, her own smile widening, âtheyâre really a bunch of slintheads.â
Month after month, heâd watched a newbie show up only to lose their absolute minds only hours earlier. The forgotten memories, the glade, all the unanswered questions that came with being here was enough to drive anyone mad. Now, after so long, it was all petty to him. Every greenie forced another eye roll from him. âKnew youâd be up for it.â He shot back, a sly grin on his face. âSlintheads doesnât even cover it. Youâd think whoever sent us up here would send some people with a little backbone. Instead, we get this.â
âWell, itâs not heaven on earth, try understand them!â Hilly shrugged. She had wanted to go out there, she had even wanted to be a runner but her legs were too short and she fell a lot. Not helpful. âI am not betting my lunch even though I give him until sunrise.â
âLike any of us know any differently. Been there, done that, sure as hell didnât cry like a shuck baby.â He said sarcastically, shooting a glare at the girl. âSunrise? Youâre being a little generous, donât you think?â
Brooklyn plopped down on a slightly damp patch of grass, a few flowers held in her hand. Sheâd been stressed for the past few days though she had no idea why. It was times like theses that Brooke let her guard down for a few hours and absorbed the feeling of peace â- although living in the Glade, there wasnât always time for that. As the blonde began picking petals off a sunflower she found, Brooklyn felt someoneâs eyes on her. Gazing around, her own pupils met the culprits. â Why are you staring at me, shank? Never seen a girl relax before? âÂ
With a quick roll of his eyes, Kyle huffed a small laugh, âSlim it, blondie. -- There ainât all that much to look at here, and to be honest, Iâm a little pissed youâre ruining them shuck flowers.â Clearly, he had no interest in the plants, or the girl but he didnât mind pulling a little rise from those around him when things got a little on the boring side.
Brows tangling together as he shook his head, Kyle turned, the toe of his shoe digging deep into the ground beneath him. âGreenieâs trying toâ bust out -- How long should we wait to tell him thereâs no use?â The corner of his lip turned up into something a little more than a smirk, a dark amused glint in his eyes, â--- bet you tomorrows lunch that heâll lose it by nightfall.â
