Very low budget set wise, but amazing performances!! This was the first SpAw I watched and it got me into the musical

Live blogging bc uhhh I'm so excited

Anyways Act 1 notes for the tour boot (for trade!!):

Why does it look like Nolan is straight up looking into the camera at the start

Ponyboy is so jumpy like with the Socs at the start

Or at the Drive-In when Dally just puts a hand on his shoulder

Or RITFR when Darry hits the bills on the table he flinches and that's BEFORE the slap

Also I'm usually not a Johnny fan but Bonale?!?! Huge fan of his interpretation

Like he's a lot more serious. Like his trauma made him more scared so he tries to act tough to compensate and it's only half working

Corbin really plays up the comedic aspects of Soda in so many ways

Travis!Darry is so 20 years old like this man cannot legally buy alcohol and he's also so lost omg

He also talks really fast, especially when he's angry. Like the words are just spilling out

His RITF is kind of miserable? Like not even resigned just sad

Bob is almost La Jolla level drunk, especially in the Drive-In

Ngl got distracted by how engrossed Bev seemed in her conversation during the Drive-In Scene

Marcia sounds so backhanded at all times I love it

Like she makes the outlaw comment sound like an insult, and then gets surprised when Ponyboy takes it as a compliment

When she says "How old are you two?" she sounds like she's talking to young children

I kind of love Cherry's accent, very old Hollywood Southern Belle

Cherry also sounds so sad in ICTTYAN, not hopeful, especially in the first part

This audience is so receptive I love it???

I've never heard the "you're gonna get yourself all worked up again" line get laughs like that

Soda actually sounds super unsure of all of his lines in RITF(R), like he's not sure if he's saying the right thing to calm Darry down

Also love the decision for Darry to face the audience at one point during RITF(R)

Also never heard so many people GASP at the slap. I'm so used to the story beats that I forget that it's a huge dramatic moment and that really reminded me.

Like Bob's death doesn't even get that kind of reaction

During RRB (and the scene before the Drive-In), Dally is SO older brother. Very compassionate, he doesn't even pretend to be tough when helping Johnny and Ponyboy is the priority

Overall thoughts: Okay it's official Nolan and Bonale are probably my favorite interpretations of Ponyboy and Johnny that I've seen so far

The wide shot made me realize how much smaller this stage is to the Jacobs huh

Soda seems more incredulous than scared of the cop when he says "Ponyboy ain't no murderer"

Ponyboy sounds so sad when he says "there's still blood on it :("

Bev is MEAN like she's so harsh when she drags Marcia away from Cherry TWICE

Pre-TITT Darry (but also kinda in RITFR too) has so much pent-up rage

Like if Soda "gets sad like an animal gets sad" then Darry is angry (scared) like a cornered animal ready to snap

Soda in TITT (and most of Act 2 tbh) is NOT used to being serious but Goddamn It he will try

Darry won't even look at Soda during Soda's verse in TITT ahhhh

Just realize Corbin does a lot of opt-ups (hell yeah)

Kind of love how Darry claps at the gang to get their attention in HTH so he can see the newspaper

Odd note but the makeup they use for burns is very colorful? vibrant?

This Hopeless War seems more mature, less like Cherry has lost hope and more like she's trying to give Ponyboy life advice

Shout out to the Soc guy who fully unbuttons his shirt before the rumble (very La Jolla spirit lmao)

Ponyboy's shout for Johnny during the rumble I'm going to be sick

Ponyboy looks like he's fully gonna throw up when Johnny dies, he's having a full on panic attack

Soda comforting Ponyboy FUCK man

Little Brother vocals hello?!?!? Amazing

Dally charging at the train like a bull is so perfect for his character

The SECOND Darry raises his voice, Soda puts himself between Ponyboy and Darry

Cherry genuinely sounds like she's going to cry in that last scene ahhh

Soda is so concerned for Ponyboy, like when he shakes his head at Cherry like he's worried she'll set him off

God it's been a while since I cried at Stay Gold ouch

Darry is FIGHTING those tears back during the dinner scene, like he's not hiding tears, he's fully just trying not to cry at all
