He often thinks he’s alone in a dark black hole he can’t escape from and that no one cares. His family doesn’t understand why he’s always so depressed and angry. His girlfriend has had enough of him always crying and not wanting to do anything and is on the verge of ending their relationship. They’ll never fully understand though. He’s seen death, violence, destruction, and unbearable memories that will haunt him forever. He’s seen his best friend blown apart and struck down by an IED or snipers fire. He often blames himself for surviving, thinking he should’ve done more.
The demons of his time “in the Sandbox” plague him in the very little sleep that he is able to get from the severe nightmares he suffers. He’s often thought about just ending it all for good. He has endured sacrifices for his country that most of us cannot begin to imagine.
He is the Combat Veteran and although he himself often doesn’t seem to think it, he is loved and highly respected by his fellow countrymen. He has earned and he deserves all the support and respect that we can give him, whether it’s just giving him a hug or listening to him or allowing him to cry on our shoulders. We are better off for his service.
