I decided to make my own version of babqftim because I saw a bunch of people doing it, but their versions either varied greatly from the original or were continuations of it (do not get me wrong! I love every version I've seen so far!!), and I wanted to make a version that dug into the details of quest that I found really interesting!
So I'm basically going to tell the story, with slight alterations to provide more world building (and get rid of the weird stuff) and then write my own continuation and ending for the story :)
Information about asks, upload schedules (or the lack of), and my art below the cut :)
Asks
This will be an ask blog, but I will not let the asks drastically alter the story itself. I have designated story beats where I can answer more light hearted/silly asks, so feel free to ask those at any time, but don't worry if they don't get answered for a while :)
Magic anons (asks that interact physically with the story) are okay, but don't do anything weird or overpowered, or I will simply delete them.
Upload schedule
Comics will get out as I make them. I aim to get one out at least once a month, but I expect that there may be hiatuses if I lose motivation or hyper focus on something else. I will do my very best to get the whole story out eventually tho!
Art
I'm a traditional artist so all of my art will be on paper. If you have trouble reading anything or figuring out what you're looking at, feel free to just ask. I only ask that you overlook any mistakes as I don't have any way to fix pen marks right now. Go ahead and tell me if I misspelled something though, that would be helpful!
If you really like my art, my main blog is @skelebab. I don't really post anything babqftim related there, but you're welcome to request stuff like that if you want it!
The master post (linked at the top ^^^) has the posts with art linked
You can tell I got better pens in the last page lol (.25 mm my beloved 🙏🙏)
I wanted to add a black image between the last 2 pages to indicate the scene change, but I couldn't figure out how to do that without it looking out of place, so I just added some line breaks and called it a day :)
This part felt a little bit rushed, and that is completely because I really want to get to the actual quest so you'll just have to bear with me. There's so much that I need to establish before it can begin :')
I think there's only 2 parts left of this arc tho! How exciting :D
In this universe Betty is both a renowned inventor and singer!
She has an annual convention where people from many fields, from engineering to dance, come to show their work. It's said that if you can get your own booth then your career is basically guaranteed to succeed, so the spots are very coveted. However, because the event is so popular Betty has to work hard to keep big companies from claiming any of the spots, as that goes against the entire point of the convention.
Other details
- Betty is 30 years old
- she is mentoring Bendy in mechanics and plans to also teach Boris when he's 18
- the b boys live in her house and share a room that she had spare
So in my I actually had most of this upload done back in OCTOBER, but then I had a bunch of work to catch up for the end of the semester and then one of my family members decided it was a good time to wind up in the hospital, so I've had a lot going on.
But! My classes for next semester seem like they'll be easier, so I'll try to get an update out every other week, with at least once a month
Ofc with the way I am this may fall apart, but I will do my best!
Okay now to talk about the actual post!
I HATE DRAWING BETTY
I love her don't get me wrong, but the way she translates to my style is so specific and hard to get right, and then on top of that I barely drew for the last month so I was rusty 😭
And then I also had to draw Boris, but I think I'm getting better at him, which you can tell even through these pages :)
Anyway in general don't worry about me dropping this project I already have most of the plot written out so even if it takes a while I will finish this 💪💪
I'm so sorry if you read all that it's very much a stream of consciousness :')
I haven't posted in almost a month, mostly because I've been saving the pages I have made up to start making bigger posts, but then a bunch of stuff came up in my life and I just didn't have the time to be working on the comic
Also I got into some other fandoms, so there may be more recognizable background characters than I originally planned
I should have time to work on the comic more soon, but I was wondering if people would prefer me to keep making smaller posts, or just wait until I have more and make bigger posts
which would y'all prefer
keep the smaller posts (1-3 pages each)
include bigger posts (5+ pages)
Voting ended onNov 24, 2025
I'll still make smaller posts occasionally either way, if it fits the pacing better, but I'd like to know what people (the 3 people who care lol) would prefer
No but fr my best piece of advice is to get into a bunch of different pieces of media with different art styles and pick your favorite parts from them to incorporate in your style
If you want to know how I specifically draw tho, I can give you a few pointers :)
(aka make an entire art tutorial)
(under cut tho because this may be a bit long)
Let's start with heads :)
Head shape
I always start my drawings with a circle to represent a character's head and line(s) to represent where they're facing (normally just one line, but I add a second one if they are looking up or down)
Then I add the jaw line (which you can change up to easily make characters look different) and the shape of the edge of their face, it's important to remember what shape the character's face is in a 3d space for this, I generally think of heads and a orb where the brain is kept, that has divots where the eyes go and a bump for the brow, and a sticky outy bit that includes the jaw/mouth and nose areas
(if I'm drawing a human, or a character with similar ears, I will also draw an oval at the edge of the jaw where the ears will go)
Facial features
Then I add the face, it's important to note that the tilt of the head is a useful tool for naturally making facial expressions more extreme, like tilting the head down a bit when a character is angry so you can follow the curve of the face, but it's not a solid rule (there aren't any solid rules)
But anyway, facial features generally consist of mouths, noses, eyes, and eyebrows
Noses are one of the easiest features to make, because they typically stay the same in different expressions, but sometimes you can draw them scrunched up when a character is angry or disgusted or something (I think there's an example of this in Boris's character design post). They're also a good way to make characters look different from each other because there's such a wide variety of shapes and types to choose from. Bendy doesn't even have a nose, so I typically do some lines so that there's not a big blank spot in the middle of his face.
Mouths, in contrast to noses, change a lot depending on the expression. A general rule I use is that if the ends of the mouth point down it's a negative emotion and if they point up it's a positive one, ofc there's some variation. But that's typically a good base. The mouth shapes that I normally stick to are w and m mouths because I find u and n shaped mouths to look kinda weird when I'm drawing something (they typically look fine in finished pieces though, so don't be scared to use them if you want!). Open mouths are a bit different, the way I see them is that the size of the mouth is how loud/strong their emotions are, and the shape of the lower line of the mouth is the equivalent to the edges of a closed mouth (I hope that makes sense)
Then the eyes..... Should get their own section
Eyes (+brows)
A piece of advice that I learned when I was younger about drawing eyes is to put one eye of space between them, and I think that some art styles do work for that. But I've found that as long as you have at least like half an eye of space, they typically look fine. Eyes just go a bit above and on either side of the nose (how high or low they are compared to the nose depends on the shape of the face, but I typically make it so that the nose is just under or right in the bottom line of the eyes). You can also change the position and look of the eyes for sillier expressions
When drawing normal eyes, I start with the outline of the eye. I recommend giving characters different eye shapes, as it's a way to make it easier to tell characters apart, especially in comic like this one where a lot of characters have similar facial features
Then you draw pupils to show where they're looking, and circles around them to mark where the irises are (you can stop after drawing the pupils if you want to, but I like to put more detail into my eyes). When drawing irises you can make them whatever size you want, the trick is just to keep the space between the edge and the pupils mostly consistent (unless it hits the edge of the eye, in which case you just follow the edge
Then I finish it by adding details! I normally add a shine on the side where the light is coming from (because the comic is based on old cartoons, I've been making the shines triangle to mimic the pie cuts old characters had), but you can skip that if you don't think it would match the expression better. Then I add a darker bit to the top of the eye, going around where the shine is if they overlap, to add more depth to them :)
Then I add the eyebrows above the eyes. I don't put that much detail into them, but they can drastically change an expression. I'm not going to get too far into it right now, but don't be afraid to experiment with how different brows effect the emotion a drawing gives off
Then once you put that all together you have a face!
Then I add the details!
They both have the same face outline thingy, which a lot of the characters in this comic do
Bendy is easy because he has horns, so they don't really move, but I do sometimes change his level of fluffiness for different expressions. I generally base his details around his goggles, the lenses are at the arches above his eyes, and the straps disappear behind his fur right where the horns end.
Then when I draw Boris I first have to decide where his ears are pointed. When drawing characters with animal features like him, you have to remember that those features can also have an impact on their body language. You can make the ears point at what the character is paying attention to, even if they aren't looking at it, make them flatten against their head if they are uneasy, point up if they are excited, etc. etc. You can really just do whatever you want tbh.
Then I make him fluffy :)
(I also drew Boris's bandana because I like it)
Bodies
... I'll have to make a new post for this there is so much to talk about. Hands themselves will take so much yapping lol
This is just a tiny thing to introduce this chapter. I could've waited for more of it to be done, but I felt like this page didn't really match with the other ones
