KDRAMA RECOMMENDATION || BEST OF 2018
I have been watching Kdramas since high school when my friend forced me to watch Boys over Flower and I thought it’d be lame but it literally took me 20 seconds to fall in love with Kdrama world. However, 2018 was the year this obsession took over my life and making this blog was how I decided to manage it.
And because I am still thinking about all the dramas I have watched last year instead of writing the paper I am supposed to be writing. Here is the list of kdramas I loved and enjoyed last year.
Note: I am not including the dramas that are still airing.
🌿 My ID is Gangnam Beauty
This list is not ranked because but this probably was the best (according to my own very subjective enjoyment, of course). I really didn’t expect to like it as much as I did. The characters very vocal about sexism, beauty standard and most of all they didn’t glamorise plastic surgery. The story was highly entertaining and surprisingly very unproblematic considering the makeover trope.
This was a gem. I have no words to describe this one. It was depressing at times but wow! It was one of a kind, life-changing.
Please do your self a favour and watch this one.
🌿 What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim
This drama reminds me of all the reasons I fell in love with the kdrama world. If you are looking for a feel-good romcom drama, this is a must watch. I love Park Min Yong so much, she is too perfect. And Park Seo Joon….was….just… EVERYTHING.
I don’t even know what to say about this one except don’t watch it in public because you will laugh and laugh and laugh and people will think you are mental.
Probably the most underrated drama of the year. It deserved more love. I have talked about it a lot on my blog previously, I even made a post about why you should watch it. I still can’t stop talking about this. Reasons to watch this: the writers were so good that I still can’t get over this, the entire cast especially Jo Seung Woo, Dong Wook, Jin Ah.
I don’t know man it was fantastic.
🌿 Pretty Noona who buys me food
I loved this drama more than I hated the last few episodes of it, hence why its still in the list. It was so…normal? Although the female lead character (not the actress) was very annoying at times (read: most times) both lead actors Son Ye-Jin and Jung Hae In’s acting were so good in this.
If you want to see a series that actually addresses the topic of sex, has kiss scenes that are not cringy, has lovely ost, this is for you. Just watch it for Jung Hae In tbh.
🌿 The smile has left your eyes
OH MAN! this one had me hyped the entire time it was airing. After watching this I had a hard time finding anything I wanted to watch. It was a creepy and very very interesting thriller with amazing actors. Seo In Guk did a fabulous job in this one, half the time I didn’t know if I wanted to hug him or run away from him. It’s perfect for binge watching.
Please note: It’s doesn’t have a happy ending and it will tear you apart. But even then you will be glad that you watched this masterpiece. Also, keep your tissues ready and whatever you do please don’t read comments while watching this one.
Speaking of binge watch and crime dramas. This is OCN drama so no doubt it was mindblowing. It had time travel, crime, great casts and a gripping story.
I have watched so many crime dramas last year that I should make another list of just that (I probably will). Not only the main leads but also the young actors portraying their childhood did a wonderful job. They made me want to just protect these babies from all the bad things happening in the world. Although this was a crime genre, it was still lovely.
It was not that great, but it was not bad. I liked it. It has Lee Jun Ki in it. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.
Junho, Jang Hyuk and food. It is a cliche but really healing for your soul. I wish more people will watch it. This will make you want to eat.
May I give you an advice? Watch this drama. (*wink wink* to those who have seen it). It is a feel-good, fluffy, warm drama.
Ok, I admit I was not in the mood for this while it was airing so maybe that’s why I didn’t like it as much as others did. It has nothing to do with the drama and everything to do with my mindset at the time. I will probably watch this again someday and hopefully will love it more.
Don’t listen to me though, watch this if you haven’t because the cast was good, the characters were all quirky and likeable. The story was cute, funny, refreshing and heartbreaking.
It tried to do something cool. It worked for the most part but I really wish they had decided to take one long case that threaded the story instead of different cases like the US one. The US one had the advantage of it being series so they got enough time for the viewers to learn about the main characters and their story but here they didn’t give me enough time. The acting was fantastic. I love Hyung Sik so much and he looked so fine in this one.
I don’t think I am going to recommend this one but it needs to be here. This drama was the reason I decided to make my blog so I can rant about it. All four characters deserved so much better than they got from the sorry excuse of the script. I have pretty strong views about this one, pls talk to me about it.
{{ Is anyone even reading this? Is this list ever going to end? I have to add so many dramas here but I should stop. I am mentioning these two dramas at the very last because they aired in 2017 but ended in 2018. I can never not talk about them.}}
Beautiful. Beautiful. Beautiful. Beautiful.
🌿 While you were sleeping
Last one on the list and number one in my heart. This is my all-time favourite drama, I love it so much that I can write a 10,000 words essay about it.
Phewww!! I am done. I missed a few but I will hopefully talk about them sometime later. Looking forward to what 2019 will bring. Happy New Year everyone. Come talk to me about your favourite kdramas xx
