Rosalyn lived most of her life in California. She did, however, have fond memories of going to Pelican Town every summer when she was younger. She missed it, so she wanted to go back, now here she's been for the past ten years. Rosalyn is 38 and she is thriving. About five years ago, she took over the ranch after her aunt passed it on to her, having lived there. Her aunt had always lived there and looked after her in the summers when her parents were busy, losing her had been hard, but she did her best to grieve and adapt and move on.
Back in California, Rosalyn worked at a local shopping mall and she was constantly being bullied by customers, either because of her looks or because they didn't deem her good enough to direct them in fashion choices, whatever that means. Rose likes to think she has quite a good taste in fashion and she shows off her cute looks in town whenever she can.
She's got quite the happy outlook on life, or she tries to. Despite that, Rosalyn deals with some severe asthma, has done since she can remember and keeps inhalers on her at all times. That and she's prone to getting infections when she least expects it, so shes' always trying her best to stay healthy. She was all too used to people making comments about her weight and her health back home, but honestly, she's doing better now away from all of the toxic people that had been in her life before.
She's happier in Pelican Town despite her loss too. Her parents keep in touch, they even visit on occasion, but they are not as close as she ever would have liked given they put work before her. And don't even get her started on her own relationships. Back in high school, Rosalyn had been all too used to being asked out 'as a dare' or just because she was the only one without a date left. She decided to not date after her last ex ditched her for someone else on prom. She wouldn't mind finding love again though, in fact, she's a romantic at heart and always reading romance novels when she's got the time.
Time she doesn't have a ton of these days. The ranch is busy. Between taking care of the animals, helping out the town and attending events, Rose is busier than she had ever been, but she's happier. She feels better treated here than she ever did back in her own town. In a way, Pelican Town had always been a home away from home and she wouldn't change it for a thing, because it is her home now.
Her abuelita would have told her to try to get some horseback riding lessons, to live a little - she always kept telling Carlota to try it out, she'd love it, but she's always been afraid the fall off of a horse's back would be too bad and never dared trying it. And this wasn't going to be the time to try either. Just as usual.
"Hey there. Just here for my usual pick up for eggs and milk and cheese, if you have them," she gave Rosalyn a small smile as she headed up to the counter. "Rosalyn, hey, I've been looking at the entrance of your ranch, have you ever considered getting any kind of flower arrangements or arches around the entrance?" not subtle, not even any small talk, but she's been thinking about what other business she could bring in and her abuelita would have told her to go for it, and this was an advice she could follow, even if she didn't feel too comfortable with these kinds of situations usually.
“Of course, let me grab those for you,” Rosalyn said with a bright smile. Before she left, she listened, curious before she said, “Y’know, I have thought of some shrubbery, but some flowers would do one better. You’re still at the flower farm, right? What kinds of things are growing in season right now? I’m afraid I’m not as caught up in that knowledge as I ought to be.”
She bustled in the back really quickly, grabbing the best of her eggs, cheese and milk. Rose rang them up back at the counter and bagged them all, giving her the discounted price. “Is there a time when you don’t mind me stopping by to see what you’ve got at the farm? I would love to see what you’re growing right now.”
Seline hated waiting, but what she hated even more were people who felt the need to rush others. So, she was perfectly fine admiring the place while Rosalyn took her time getting to the register. "Hiya, Rosalyn," Seline chirps, her sunny disposition made even more so by the beautiful Spring weather in the valley. What was not contributing to her mood, though, was waking up this morning to find her father had used the last egg on some dumb egg white foam thing for a cocktail. Eggs, wasted on a cocktail? Seline wanted to scream.
"I was wondering if you had any fresh eggs in stock? I know it'd probably be easier to have my own chickens, but you see I find them quite —" Seline purses her lips and takes a moment before carefully finishing her sentence. "— annoying, honestly."
“Chickens are not for everyone. I get it, they can be a lot of work.” Sometimes Rosalyn wondered how she kept up with them herself, but she had her Aunt to thank for that.
“And yes, I have plenty in stock. I can give you a dozen or two if you’d like. And …,” she leaned in conspiratorially. “At a discount compared to the supermarket.” Rose giggled to herself and said, “Let me go grab a few of those for ya then, I’ll be right back, Seline.” Then, as quickly as she had left, she was back at the register, two dozen eggs prepared in case Seline wanted them. Ringing them up, she said, “These’ll be ten seven dollars if you’d like both. Otherwise, three fifty for one.”
Upon hearing the door open, Rosalyn called out, "Just a moment!" She scrambled to gather her morning egg sandwich, taking it with her to the front. Was it improper to bring food out where a customer was? Maybe, but most she'd come across didn't have a problem with it. Besides, if she didn't, she might not even have time in the day to grab a bite to eat. "Sorry, we just opened. I'm glad you're here though." She smiled, setting her sandwich down and making sure the register was on.
