I honestly just say “Teh Long Walk” in my head when I see “tlw” and I think it might be because i start thinking the letter t, but then I remember it’s stands for ‘The” and by that point I don’t have time to pronounce ‘the’ correctly. I just low realized that I never realized I said it like this before.

Reading that over, I realize it doesn’t make a lot of sense but then again neither does my thought pattern XD

Thanks to a question I got from @my-life-grotto , I’m now left wondering what Pokémon starters the Long Walk boys would pick and what kind of team they’d build up.

After thinking, I’ve decided that Garraty and Jan would probably get their starters together; Garraty getting a Charmander and Jan getting a Squirtle.

Garraty would probably try to be tactical about the Pokémon he catches and adds to his team while also somehow having a sense of randomness to the type of Pokémon he catches. Like he’d find a Pokémon, think it over, say, “Yeah they’d be a good addition to my team”, but in reality he had no real reason to catch that type Pokémon and kind of did it on a whim. Jan would most likely catch ones she thinks are cute or adorable and, like Garraty, does it on a whim without much thought.

Garraty would probably also be the one getting into the most battles with other trainers while Jan sits off to the side with her Pokémon and cheers Garraty on. Garraty would most likely have a more common winning streak than a losing one I think. Also, I can’t explain why, but I have this hunch that while Jan rarely gets into battles, she’s never once lost the ones she HAS competed in. I have no idea it might just be that I love the idea of girlboss Jan 😂

And the rest of this post is random head canon so feel free to add or propose other ideas you think of as well!

McVries would get a rock/steel type team

Baker a flying type team and or just random Pokémon he finds and gets attached to

Olson a dragon type team

Pearson a fire/electric type team

Davidson a water and or random type team

Scramm a bug/ground/grass type team (he and Cathy probably both have Gogoats ☺️)

Abraham a psychic/ghost type team

Stebbins a completely random team that doesn’t make sense to anyone but him

Parker a fighting type team

Barkovitch a poison/flying type team

Harkness an ice/water type team

All of the boys found each other once and competed in a massive tournament of battles amongst each other just for fun/to see who would win. I kind of imagine the tournament would go down like how the boys in the book did and it would end with Garraty against Stebbins with Garraty and his Pokémon ready to give in when Stebbin’s Pokémon suddenly collapses from damage and Garraty wins

The major is the reigning Champion of whatever league the boys are in

Yeah for sure! It’s a Pokémon named Gible that I fell in love with that has to be one of my fav Pokémon right alongside Bulbasour! I love Gible’s look and I think it’s cool that it evolves into Gabite that then evolves into Garchomp which can then Mega Evolve!

Yeah, so, family friends of ours have younger girls, ages ranging anywhere from 6-10. One of them gets a peek at my wallpaper, and then all of the sudden I have to explain The Long Walk and it’s premise to these girls who just reached double-digits age wise because they keep asking questions that I can’t just ignore😂

It was an experience, and all I can say is that I hope they listen to my warning to not read the book until at least the age of 13

As an upcoming sophomore, I’ll tell you what I learned last year.

Honestly, don’t give any fucks about what people think or say about you. It only gets you down more and the main to things you should be focused on is school and strengthening/making new bonds with friends you want to stick with. If someone gives you a hard time with either, don’t waste your time on them.

Also, make sure you create the best balance of managing school work and socializing for yourself that you can, otherwise you’ll stress yourself out and end up having a breakdown. Schools important, so try to manage that as best you can, but remember that your health ALWAYS comes first and there are no exceptions. If you’re on top of things, you can handle a low grade on an assignment or two so long as it’s for the benefit of your mental health.

You also might run into the problem of feeling like a failure because of a low grade on something or if you’re having a hard time getting an assignment done. YOUR’RE NOT!! Certain things comes easier to some and more difficult for others, so don’t sweat it if you don’t get something. If you’re having trouble with something, asking a teacher, faculty member or any adult to help you makes things so much easier! Don’t be afraid to ask for help from someone, PLEASE, because I can promise you it can make your situation better!

Lastly, keep your current friends close, but also, don’t be afraid to branch out a bit and meet/hangout with other people! Extracurricular activities can be a great way to meet new people who could become seriously good friends! I literally met one of my now great friends last year just because we were in gym starting our workout and she asked me and another group of kids if someone wanted to share a mat with her!

I can guarantee you’ll be fine, so long as you try your best, do the homework, and keep up with your social life. You’ll have your downs, that’s also a guarantee, but I promise you’ll have your ups to! Make great memories to start of high school great and good luck! Hope this helped a bit!
