Another day at the office. Ugly guitar, awesome song. Apparently I can shred it like people expect someone with a hair like mine #recording #music #musicproduction #studio #soho #london #guitar #guitarhero #sidefields #rock
Just about to record some voice over with JK Rawling #recording #production #studio
John Power of The La's and Cast in the studio in a writing session with yours truly. A genuine talent with melody pouring out of him. Great session, with more to follow! #cast #britpop #thela's #sidefields #thenight #indie #recordings #creativity

Our new video is up ! http://youtu.be/UUhFhgVsfq4 #musicvideo #sidefields #indie
It's been a year in the making of this video. It could be less, but it's been a constant journey and struggle to find the right people to work with, to better the result at all times and to make the bets with what we had.
The general idea behind the video was the show my figure as a ghost that travels in the streets of london, almost morphing into them. If someone wants to give another commentary feel free to do so :). Big up to Sharon Vidan who shot the video and to Aviel Lewis who edited, shot some footage too and contributed a lot to bring it to life.
Enjoy!

Mastering the new SideFields album
Every journey comes to an end, and in this instance - an album always ends up on that day you master it.
Back in the day, the process of mastering used to be crucial and it was there to ensure the pressing of the vinyl records would not go wrong and to match the sound that's been achieved in the studio to the sound on the actual record. These days, I find mastering to be just an excuse for loudness wars. However, there is a unifying element to it when tying a few songs together as a collection. I kept my expectations low, but after the mastering session it felt like... it was complete! Watch this space for more.
Yours truly with James guitarists Larry Gott and Saul Davies
I don't know how many times one gets to meet his / her heroes, but i my case it doesn't happen everyday. I was lucky enough though, when a friend of mine offered me to record and mix the sound for James in a live video session they did for Disorder magazine.
My connection to James is one of many years. I was exposed to them as a teenager back in the early 90's, when alternative and indie bands made MTV so much more appealing. As a young 22 year old dreamer in the streets of Tel Aviv I once did a cover of the band's iconic track, Born Of Frustration in front of a few hundred people. For those of you who don't know the song, its repeated motive is reflected in rather wild yodels singer Tim Booth was singing. I remember raising a few eyebrows in the crowd by (trying) to repeat them. Many people I knew at the time got exposed to the band thanks to my love for the group's very unique vibe.
Upon getting to London James remained one of the only bands I kept listening to, even after all the changes that occurred to me, both personally and musically. London changed me but I found different shades in their music. I saw the band live twice in 2008, one of the times was in a secret show in Hoxton, which was announced on their myspace page (remember those?!) on the very same day. They sounded great and even turned to be rather down to earth as people as I've managed to have a quick word with some of the band members at the end of that secret gig.
This time around it wasn't different. After a quick sound check the band played a couple of new track that sounded as good as anything they'd ever done in the past, you could tell the magic was still there. I caused a feedback to Tim Booth's in - ear device, which will probably remain with me for the rest of my life as one of the most embarrassing moments I've had, but the band was very friendly and welcoming despite that and I am very proud of the end result, which could be found on these links:

A short and sweet review by the LP project on a couple of out tracks. Big up for Lisa Parker!
I see the beauty, do you?
Canals in London ARE among the real SideFields to me. You get the real sense of solitude in that blind spot between urban and rural areas. I find that industrial concrete roughness next to the tranquility of the water really captivating.
Loop Motion in action
Tyler’s Court AKA Piss Alley, Soho
Some people might think it's a bit weird to post such photo. What's the point you ask?
I just think it epitomises London's Soho in so many ways. A hidden alley, which certainly saw some sights, and on a day to day basis accommodates the the physical artefacts of drunkenness. And yes, I see the beauty of it. Can you?
Morning train to nowhere
Another Soho roof terrance. Such hidden beauty
Yes, this might seem like Camden Council's advertising page, but really, how can you resist these urban views. This little balcony is in a guitar and amp workshop in Denmark Street. The room leading to it is all clogged up with guitar amps, pedals, speakers and random audio gear, to a point you can barely move. Some would say that it's a mirror for London's current state...
Lungo live
Been a while since I've been to a local band night. Knowing one of the band members, who described their music as "very similar to Gang Of Four" I decided it wouldn't be a bad bet to see them live.
Indeed, some of the places that pride themselves as music venues in London should really step up their game. While they're giving lots of unsigned bands the opportunity to showcase their music, they don't do it in a very elegant manner. Most bands who play venues without a decent PA system / stage monitors / decent gear in general, and a decent engineer to handle it all, will simply become a part what we all know is "The Toilet Circuit".
The band however didn't seem to mind and fused some angular - broken guitar riffs with (what seemed to be) rather sarcastic vocals to steady beats. No bassist, which what an interesting choice. Well done chaps.
Denmark Street on its yearly day off -
Being jewish has got its merits. Yes, you might not be a tall or blue eyed and your people may have suffered for years in the past. But against all this stands a huge advantage - Christmas time is for you to relax, not to stress out and get caught up in a frenzy of excess shopping.
After having a chilled morning at home I cycled down the empty streets on Christmas day to the studio down in Denmark Street. It's the only day in the year where there's no public transport. As someone who struggles through hordes of busses and lories on a daily basis on the thin Roman roads of London, this was quite an experience.
As no one is insane enough to actually go to work on Christmas day, I could peacefully work on the mix of If You Were My Lover by SideFields, trying to shift the song's balance between coherent clarity and absolute muddy chaos. Time will tell what would be the result... "Stay tuned folks" ;)
