I always thought house was being sarcastic to Cameron and was just being up front with her. It's obvious that he's not the kind of person who will hire someone because of the superficial stuff she said, and through his actions even on s1 you can see that he respects her intelligence despite her empathy annoying him. He knows he needs that kind of person, someone who has what he lacks, and that is exactly cameron.

I dont like to think of her empathy annoying him, I think its just a word to cover up what he actually means and what it represents - an actually KIND ( there are so many other good words to describe her, idk which to use) person that proves the point that those people really do exist. He does not like the human kind because he sees them as naturally cruel and bad. Cameron is like - not like that - Cameron ACTUALLY is good and not just seems that way. He hated that it doesn’t fit into his understanding of humankind.
