One historical addition and one Probably-watch-out-for-this-guy-currently…

1. From “Personal Life of Marvin Gaye” Wikipedia: “Marvin Gaye met 17yr old Janis Hunter in March 1973 while working on Let’s Get It On album […] After their first date, Gaye was inspired to record the composition, ‘If I Should Die Tonight.’” Gaye was 34.

2. Bruno Mars co-wrote and recorded the song “Young Girls” for the Unorthodox Jukebox album. I don’t feel like copy-pasting all the quotes of him saying this song was “a confessional” and “…where I was when I started this album” and basically that it’s completely autobiographical and he thinks it’s super relateable and zero percent distances himself from the creepy, predatory lyrics cuz he sees absolutely nothing wrong with it. And why would he? He co-wrote the hit single on CeeLo’s very successful, rapist manifesto album The Lady Killer— which has received almost no mainstream criticism for being a horrific autobiographical account of CeeLo’s misogynist beliefs and (criminal) behavior toward women. (I believe it was Peech on Twitter who engaged CeeLo in a convo in which he eventually expressed surprised that the actions he described to her were considered rape.)

TL;DR: Based on lyrics and words from his mouth, I would verily advise being wary of Bruno Mars!

The next time somebody gives you shit about your late autism diagnosis, remember that Anthony Hopkins was diagnosed as autistic when he was 70 years old. 

People can go almost their whole lives and never know they’re autistic, but recognize they feel different from their peers.

And BTW Anthony Hopkins stims by rubbing his hands together, and being autistic is exactly why he’s such a good actor. He studies people’s mannerisms with an analytical mind, adopts those mannerisms for characters and turns out awesome performances. He’s a chameleon.

And he’s one of us, autistic community.

This is also important as a reminder that, while most mainstream discussion of autism focuses on autistic children, autism doesn’t magically go away when you become an adult. Many autistic adults are less visibly neurodivergent than we were when we were children. That doesn’t mean that we’ve become neurotypical. We’ve simply learned through years of experience how to act in a way that society deems “normal.” A surface-level change in behavior does not necessarily reflect a fundamental change in the way we think and perceive the world.
