Daylight, the light on things, is so moving to me that I feel almost a spiritual quality. When the sun comes up in the morning – which I always find so marvellous, absolutely fantastic the way it comes back every morning – and casts its light on things, it doesn’t feel as if it quite belongs in this world. I don’t understand light. It gives me the feeling there’s something beyond me, something beyond all understanding. And I am very glad, very grateful that there is such a thing.

The two “crotch treatment” photos I ended up buying that day gave new meaning to the dreaded fashion blunder known as “belt abuse,” was astonishing; so aggresively hilarious that once the fashion world noticed, both Steven Meisel for Versace and Martin Margiela copied the bolted, stitched-up and insanely accessorized belts and crotches from these hellcats for the runways of Paris.

Rebel Youth by Karlheinz Weinberger
These adolescents, under American influence, were playing tough guys on big bikes, displaying the name of their bands, rolling around on the ground and kissing in the woods. They would wear horseshoe symbols, helmets of the Wehrmacht as a sign of their rejection of authority and replaced the zippers of their jeans with chains, screws or belt buckles with Elvis’ head.
