Things you liked about Digimon Tri?

There was a part about midway through where they actually let Mimi and Joe have a very human conversation about how they both felt they were doing badly and struggling with the group. Maybe because I wasn’t expecting it, that part hit me harder and became the thing from Tri. that I actually liked. Also, T.K.’s fashion. This boy is a disaster and I absolutely support every outfit choice he has ever made.

3 OTPs: y’know, Tri. being as bad as it was made me retroactively stop caring about a lot of the concepts I used to love about this series? So like, I dunno my answer to this! I should either rewatch the old series or try the new remake to see if it resparks any of the love that Tri. zapped away. ANYWAY, if I was answering this for what I did ship when I was a kid, then T.K./Kari, Mimi/Joe and platonic Henry/Rika.

5. what is your favorite overused trope?

Two characters who are both in love with someone else, but when their crush(es) don't/doesn't return their feelings, they turn to each other for comfort and find... something with each other. "Well you can't get what you want, But you can get me," as Melancholy Hill says.

Randall Ascot got off way too easy and I'm still dying on this hill. I am a corpse. The hill has rotted away. I'm still here.

...Also, I'd say Merlin (ilu merlin but yeah), but I know how the series ends, so he suffers lol

19. if you could be a part of any story, which story would you want to tag along in?

Probably Digimon Adventure 01 or 02. Because, like, Tamers is my fave, but the Tamers world is super intense. So I'd want to go on the fun adventure world with my fated Digimon companion in the Digital World.

26. Name a ship that ended like you wanted it to.

Korrasami! All right, yeah, we can all agree that they could’ve been more direct about them at the end, but considering that I went into that finale fully expecting Makorra would get back together at the last minute, it warmed my heart to see that the queer romance I’d been rooting for actually got together for once! I remember watching the finale with my brother and both of us were so happy we were cheering! Somehow we’d managed to avoid spoilers, so it was the best kind of surprise we could ask for. I’ve only read the first volume of the comic, but I’m looking forward to seeing how Korra and Asami’s relationship develops, since I feel like the writers will have more freedom in comics than they do in animation.

27. Name a ship that deserved better in the end.

I’m gonna reach into the depths of my childhood here and say T.K./Kari from Digimon. Yeah, I know I’m lame, but I was so invested in them as a kid and the ending of Digimon was disappointing to say the least… I had hoped that Digimon Tri. might finally address them a bit more, but Tri. has been a massive disappointment that refuses to focus on anything other than the new girl and her angst, so I don’t have any hopes for Tri. at all now. It’s a massive shame and all of the kids deserve better than they got (especially the poor 02 cast), but I’m so disillusioned at this point that I’ve kind of just accepted it.

28. Is there a character you have several ships for?

Most characters! I’m a massive multishipper, both with canon characters and even my own OCs. The first name to come to mind is Kisumi Shigino from Free! though, since as my favourite character, relationships involving him are ones that I’m super invested in.

Ship that is canon but you don’t ship:

The first thing that came to mind for this one was actually an SU example. But it’s one of those ones that if I said it publicly I’d run the risk of upsetting too many people, so instead I’ll go with a Digimon example and say both Matt/Sora and Ken/Yolei from the Digimon Adventure series. I’ve never been a fan of those flash-forward futures where ALL of the characters are hetero-married with kids and random jobs. I think Digimon was the series that sparked my dislike for this trope. In later years I did learn that the original Japanese version of the series was very different to the English dub I watched as a kid, but because I watched the English dub, I remember being so confused when these two ships ended up being endgame. Honestly, it’s probably more realistic to have characters you don’t expect get together instead of having the childhood crushes get together, and there was at least some build-up for both of these ships, but they still never sat very well with me. I’m not massively against either of them, but they still wouldn’t have been my first choices for those characters.

Ship that you can never see happening:

I’m just gonna fall back on my age old example of Clive/Flora. There’s not much about this ship that I haven’t already said, to be honest. I’m not a fan of having the girl fall in love with the guy who kidnapped her so that she can ~*~HEAL HIM WITH HER LOVE~*~. It just feels a bit awkward and unrealistic to me. And based on what we saw of them in PL3, I just don’t personally see Flora developing romantic feelings for Clive or vice versa.

Ship that makes you sad:

Janice/Melina or Luke/Aurora or any ship where half of them dies, because that’s tragic. On a similar note, Super Sonic/Ebony from Sonic the Comic. Because even though Super Sonic doesn’t die as such, the series ends on a note where Ebony might never see the version of him she cares about again and that broke my little heart when I read that story as a kid.

Ok and what are your feelings on Digimon Tri?

The first thing that stands out to be is how great the animation looks. Considering this is a sequel to one of Digimon’s best known series it was totally a good idea to give everyone that same blank face. Because who needs expressions and individuality, amirite?And the next thing you need to respect is just how fast-paced the plot moves.We’re at part six now and I feel like telling the writers to slow down because there’s just too much happening all at once. It’s definitely not as if we’ve wasted so much time on needless fan-service! Not at all! Honestly, I don’t think that Tri. has nearly enough fan-service. Golly gosh, one thing I always wanted from a Digimon Adventures sequel was Izzy perving over Mimi wearing a skimpy outfit. That didn’t feel out of place AT ALL.So overall I feel that Digimon Tri. is full of beautiful, expressive animation, but I hope that the plot slows down soon because if they keep moving this fast then they’re going to lose me soon.Oh and all the Digimon themselves suck. I’m totally not only here for them or anything.
